  1. Ok, not an expert, but it sounds like you did your oil tracing homework... Do you have auto or MT ? My MT has a little drain hole where the tranny contacts the motor, this is hopefully for water, but can be for oil in this case.. If you have MT, your clutch may foul from this leak, can you feel it ? Look at the motor/tranny join for fresh oil, if it is vague, clean it up and look next time you drive... Unfortunately, it sounds like the rear main seal. The good news is that I have read that it is not that hard or expensive to change. The bad news is that it is after you pull the tranny which is a PITA. Narrow it down, and if that is the case, park the truck, jack it up and rent a tranny jack... GL Bud !! Bernard
  2. Hey NR, just to get things straight 1-1, I have no problems with Jeeps, I just don't want to own one. While I think all but a few JGC are jokes played on mall shoppers wanting the 4x4 attitude, some of the baddest rigs I have seen are CJ's (yes and a few JC's). There is no doubt that some are VERY capable, but I think you will find that is more with the hardcore crowd who re-work them. The Pathy side is that here is a vehicle that is just as capable as a JGC (stock) but receives little recognition for the fact, and virtually no support from the offroad aftermarket companys. Why, I don't know as I see 88-95 pathys everywhere. One thing I think Pathys have over the JGC is the quality of build and reliability, and so do most here. I respect anyone who goes off road, even Mudfinders geo tracker buddy (maybe even more so). It's just a love to hate thing by a somewhat maligned group that don't care for the "it's not a jeep" thing. It is not personal... Think it of the brunette having no patience for the "Blondes have (are) more fun" thing. Give me a raven haired beauty any day !! Bernard
  3. Definitely a latch/seal thing... shouldn't be hard to figure out. I agree Slick, but don't feel bad... Someone painted theirs over so lights wouldn't annoy them... B
  4. ...to be unfortunate Sheeple. Dang it, it keeps happening... B
  5. Well (newbie) oilman, all in good fun, I have to point out that my Pathy, as many others, came with chromies from the factory... I run BFG AT 31x10.5" which aren't wild tires, but generally all around capable. Why ? They came with the truck and have %70 tread left. I have JGC springs, T-bars cranked and am perfectly off road capable, regardless of the chrome. As a matter of fact, every 4x4 I have had for 15 years has had chrome rims. Why ?? Because they came that way, and $ was better spent on other things for the truck. While I'm not a off road monster like some people, I don't think "NOOB" really applies either. You know, things like month long, 2500 mile ventures into Baja solo... Um, yeah... Kinda silly statement that is, eh ? And yes, I agree, if and when I buy rims, the black rock crawlers 15x7" is what I want. Bernard
  6. Yes, that made sense Slick. I totally agree... It IS unfortunate that the poor guy owned a Jeep. Opps, I did it, didn't I ?? B
  7. I think you are missing the point sw; effective and convenient is good as long as it is not at the expense of the Eco system.... We have more than enough of that already, and I think you can agree. I used to like the rainbows in puddles when I was a kid, now I understand what it means. For driveway cleaner, nope, bad idea... Keeping a 5 gallon bucket (with a lid) as a home solvent tank sounds like a great idea... Drop that old nasty part in for a night, brush and rinse, and presto, degreased !! It just needs to be disposed of properly when the time comes. Bernard
  8. Very Nice Bud !!! I'm somewhat jealous... IMHO you need another 1-2" in the rear for slightly positive rake/load purposes. But still, Very Nice B
  9. Well, I'm not going to listen, and say I'd get another 92-95 Pathy, an X if I could justify the cost, and possibly be open to a 4 runner, but I'm not crazy about them. A Frontier crew cab 4x4 would also be considered followed by a HB king cab 4x4 with a shell... As you can tell, I'm a Nissan fan. Bernard
  10. Hey NR, crawl under the truck on the drivers side and look at the linkage and pivot for the 4x4 shifter. Odds are it is crapped up and rusted with small mammals homesteading there. Clean everything up, and oil things while working them back and forth... I'll bet it will free up some... red-finder, yes... With the manual hubs any loud banging you hear probably will be something broken (not necessarily with the hubs)... B
  11. Great quote I read the other day... "Getting an education is like catching a communicable disease; it happens when you are not paying attention or are unlucky, it makes you unsuitable for most jobs, and eventually you have the urge to share it..." Hey Greg, the TD nissans run their headlights on kerosene for power.... just so you dont confuse the overseas chaps...
  12. I have not experienced the BANG thing yet, and no, I have not been stuck where I could not get myself out by using my head and any tricks available... Maybe I just jinxed myself B
  13. Hey statikuz, how do you think he was able to deliver such a FLUID performance ?? Yuk, yuk, yuk.... B
  14. Well Fastskier, the more clever of us engage the 4x4 before we become stuck, hence often not getting stuck... Of course, I have done a few 9 point turns... B
  15. I'd say replace it with the high flow cat. I seem to remember some for under $100. Unfortunately, I'm not up on my exhaust brands, but if I remember where I saw the units, I'll fire you a link. I'd say $300 is a fair and reasonable price. Mine has a Magnaflow stainless cat back system, that the PO had installed for $240 I believe... B
  16. I first question how old, how many miles, what shape the old one is in, and how much $ you want to spend. No point in not replacing it and having it go out/clog in a year. I think a high flow cat would be the way to go... I also agree that if you bring the parts and just let them do some piping and install you will get the best results. Of course, some shops wont want to do it because they cant mark up the parts, or will tell you they wont warranty the parts and sometimes even the labor. Bernard
  17. That was highly unnecessary k9sar... I absolute love it !!! I give you immense credit for maintaining a straight face, that must have been virtually impossible !! I salute a Master... Make sure to let us know when he takes it in for service !! -bounce- B
  18. Check the seals... Rear main is one and cam covers is another I have heard mentioned... I'm sure others will add/correct... Obviously do a clutch if it applies... B
  19. Just make darn sure it doesn't leak... Have you done the soapy water routine ??? it would be nice to use some sort of sealant/jb weld type stuff be be sure... B
  20. I totally agree with the engineering comment above... BUT have to correct the part about "The important thing is how well it was ENGINEERED". A good design starts with engineering (yes!) but can be totally defeated with inferior manufacturing or even assembly. Anyone who claims otherwise knows not of what they speak. I personally dont care where a vehicle (or toaster oven) was make, as long as it is made well. He!!, made in Zimbabwe wouldn't make me blink as long as I could be confident that it was made well (besides, they could use the $ more than almost anyone else). The collary to that is that "made in the USA" doesn't necessarily imply quality... It once did, but that was in a day gone by. You know, before cutting costs was acceptable for profit margins rather than producing quality products that people would buy without hesitation.... Bernard
  21. Hey RDN, thanks for the write up as I suspect I'll have to do mine soon... Only problem is that your links give me a pict in thumbnail size.... Makes them hard to study, eh ? B
  22. Congrats Mud !! I'm sure you will be happy with it. As for keeping the Pathy, well, it's payed and is a nice looking rig. Now you can play hard with it, and not worry and rush if it needs repairs... Obviously, post a pict of the new truck !! B
  23. Good point Slick... Rear disk WOULD be nice... But then I'd like to have a look at the entire system installed and pull it myself rather than get it used and disassembled in a crate... Still, I'll be keeping my eyes open for that in the wreckers around here... B
  24. I'm sorry... where it says "one vacuum like for" should have read "one vacuum line for". I just fat fingered it, and was not trying to say criuse control was the problem. I was trying to say that when you have an accident and do major work, things can be disconnected/malfunctioning when you have no reason to believe they would. It is, of course, difficult to diagnose a problem not being there. My point was don't be to focused on a timing issue when it could be something else. But then I'm not there, cant see, and don't hear it. Good luck... Bernard
