  1. Forgive me for my ignorance 88, but one more question. You see I am a nurse manger/backyard mechanic not a pro Will the diff ratio make any difference to changing the inners as you suggest. The lsd will come out of an auto 300zx. My front diff ratio, being petrol and manual, is 4.3:1. I am sure nissan autos are 4.6:1. Will this be a problem or am I off on a tangient.( I know they need to be the same ratio front and rear) Al
  2. Thanks for that. Reason I don't like Air lockers is that all my mates have them and although they don't have problems with the diff itself, they do with the compressor, electrics or airlines. We have some hard country to contend with in NZ. I didn't think the whole diff swapped, thanks 88. See what price I can knock him down as the deal includes the whole driveline assembly and all I want i a few inners. Al
  3. Have an autolokka for the rear and looking at putting an LSD up front, don't like air lockers, nor do I want an autolokka up there as well. I drive a 94 widebody V6, wth C200 front diff. I think a 87-89 turbo 300zx LSD will fit. I looked at one the other day, looks too big. Does the whole diff head go in or just seperate parts from the LSDd itself? Al
  4. Ex-aussie living in good old Christchurch NZ mate. Where you based. Best 4whelng I have ever done down here on the mainland. Have run some awesome safaris down here, about to organise a Nth island one for next year. Have you checked out offroadexpress in NZ. It is NZ's biggest 4wd forum and has grown to form an on-line club with NZFWDA affiliaton. Keep in touch. Al
  5. I have a 2"(50mm) body and suspension lift, rear springs have 1/2" spacers under them. I have done a little trimming on front and rea wheel arches to run snow chains and I run 33x10.5 BFG MT's. Rear diff 250mm off ground. Al
  6. Agreed. Had the same noise after driving the engine at 3/4 hot for about 8ookm's 4wdriving in high backcountry. Burnt off all the carbon deposits, had the cleanest engine ever, but noisy. Added an oil additive( which most people say are crap) and problem solved. Motor is now running so good it feels like new and I have 200,000km's on it, and I cane it out bush, burns not a drop, I have the same amount every oil change that I put in 6 months ago. Al
  7. Gidday Guys, currently have problems with trucks climate control/air con. Blower unit only goes when switched to fastest setting "3". Despite which direction button I push it flows through the dash and feet outlets. Temp setting seems faulty too, not correct temp, either hot as or room temp, even with air con switched on. The air con system is not going though despite being swithced on. I know just about everything about my pathy except whats behind the dash, and electrics aren't my strong point. Any ideas on where to start, as winter is coming, and the air con certainly helps dry out a wet/damp truck. All help appreciated. And yes I have searched and seems no one has had this problem or my search skills are crap. :help: Al
  8. Toatlly agree with what goerdie 4x4 is saying. I'm expat oz in sth island nz that does some seroius offroad stuff in clubs and privately run. Have run OME shocks that give the sofest ride offroad (great over rocks)and good handling onroad. I firstly went with some OME coils but found there load carrying capability poor. I have to carry gear for 9-10 days off road and in some serious back country, including fuel. Finally got some made up speficially for what I wanted, with some spacers for extra lift. Problem now is that I am continually replacing front steering gear every roadworthy inspection that I am going for a live axle conversion. Al
  9. When I bought my pathy the throwout bearing made the same noise. Destroyed the clutch twice since before the bearing went, and within six months of replacement, the bearing was making the same noise. The clutch went because mud and grit was getting in around the clutch fork shroud and getting between the fingers and plate. Fixed this by sealing around the shroud with some heavy duty gasket in a tube type stuff. Still got the noise though, but clutch is intact. 94 V6 Al
  10. I've run them on my 94 V6 for the last two and a half years. Carry big loads at times on some trips with fuel etc. They ride very well, very soft and comfortable. They have good articulation. I have lately put spacers in the rear, 14mm for more height. I,m changing as I want more lift plus doing a SAS to the front. Al
  11. @!*%, sorry I asked. I knew you were over regulated, but I have been to an exhaust specialist and this was his advice. The truck has been lifted and the reason for twin tubes is to tuck it right up out of the way. I have ripped off three exhausts in the last 18mths. As for trying to save the earth, forget it buddy, it is all over, this is the final act!!! I think it a bit rich, a lecture from somone residing in the wealthist country, consuming the most resources, and producing the most waste. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones! thanks jj big shoe, your advice was most useful.sorry, forgot you too Duffman.
  12. Not sure if any of you US guys can help as I am sure you are totally regulated when it comes to vehicle exhaust, but here goes. I am planning on running 2.5" pipes down each side, leaving out the cat converter into a performance muffler and 2.5" pipe from there to the rear. It is legal for me to remove the cat converter. Question is will it effect the CPU as I knoe there is information being relayed to it. I am sure the cat converter is stuffed from all the mud I have been through here in NZ. Al
  13. Gidday mate, down canterbury way this is from. I have a 94 V6 and have a 2"body lift and with ARB suspension another 2". I just reindexed the torsion bars as I found replacements too expensive. Problem with any more lift is you do have to start modifying upper control arms etc. I tend to wear out my tie rods with this lift. But it is a vast improvement on stock stanard. The coils carry a load pretty good on the trach as well. When I replace them I will be going for ranchos and probably different coils as well. Soundas like your on your way.
  14. The worst I was stuck was back in Oz in my LWB FJ 45 Landcruiser. Was by myself exploring around some old volcanic hills and rainforest. Snuck down to a small creek for a swim when she slid downhill on the mud. Could not drive back up hill. Spent the night there parked on an angle, not nice to sleep this way. Next day I spent 8hours on the trifor hand winch pulling myself out. When I got that truck out I sat there punching the air and ground in victory. Never felt so much job satifaction before in my life. By the way the truck was full of my gear as I was living in it at the time plus my trailbike. Al
  15. Gidday Mako, where you at in Godzone. I'm in CHCH.
