Yeah, this is 'like' a Nissan Pathfinder... So quit bidding you hiney wipes and give a guy who needs it a break !! B
-
I understand the spirit of what you are saying, but when they chain the doors shut to prevent breaks/pilferage and a fire happens, it gets un-funny quick. This has happened many times in many places. You need to see where the people come from, how they live, the choices they have and the conditions they work in before making cavalier remarks like that. Not trying to crap on you, but I've traveled down there somewhat, and even a few hunderd miles from the border the conditions can make you ashamed of what you have. Why do you think a lot of them are trying to get here ?? B Oh, Xbox ?? That means a TV... Try a 8x8 corugated tin shack with no running water, sewage and certainly not electricity.
-
Ditto to wheelman about the rotors, but 1 step farther... If you can see cracks, even jagged surface discolorations running from rim to center (I dont care how long) you need to change them out, now ! Thats not safe Bud, dont wait till a catastrophic failure !! Rotors can be machined back to acceptable deviations sometimes, but if there are cracks, they are gone and need to be replaced immediately ! Just looking out for ya Bud... B
-
With what ??? *ducks, runs and cowers from 88* no name
-
Yes, you are right, although its a SoCal Pathy, it'll probably go for what he wants. Now keep it down so I can get it, otherwise I wont be selling motors/trannies/etc cheap here !! Sheesh... B
-
I'm assuming its an auto ?? How is reverse, seems like 90% of the time thats the first indication of tranny failure. Do you have an aftermarket cooler ? I'm guessing (totally) throttle position sensor ?? Have you checked all the wiring connections underneath and under hood ?? B
-
Just thought I would let you all know what is goin

I'd say that is firm, not harsh. Firm is "you will get the isht done, or else" which is what the letter says and gives him a chance to deal with it (not like he hasn't). Harsh is "appear in court next Teusday) which you haven't done. Make that clear to him when he whines, but dont let up !! Also, take your sweet time paying him, as he just might do a crap job of it. I also recommend draining the tank and replacing the oils when you get it back; I think you know what I mean. If he insists on being an ass, post his contact info (name, address, phone #, email, etc) here, and I'm sure collectively we can make him widdle in his snuggies... I'll certainly give it my all; it's not even my truck and I'm that pissed ! B -
Castrol whatever dino stuff.... I just change it regularly as most of my driving is short distance... Any oil changed often is better than high tech run a long time. B
-
Shet guys, I need a frame to do a transfer with my 95XE !! Dont jack it up please... I'll give you parts !!! B
-
^^What he said X10... B
-
Sensor related ? The light means nothing, the wheels mean everything... I'm sure you can tell if the truck is in 4x4 without the light... Get on the dirt, engage 4x4, roll 10 feet, then tap the gas. $10 says you are in 4x4 regardless of the light.... I could be an idiot though... Naahhhh... B
-
Good, well you know what I mean... EGR is mainly for smog so I cant imagine it causing damage, just reduced power and milage. Glad you had no issues ! Still dont know where that (*(& manual is; I'll be pissed if I have to buy another one... :furious: B
-
Nope Mr Dank, check the milage poll.... Some dude just crossed 1/2 MILLION miles !!! Woohooo !! If mine lasts 1/2 that long, I'll be satisfied... B
-
As I was once told by an 'automotive expert' and since tend to agree 'Champion are lawn mower spark plugs...' B
-
This is a come along, also called a hand puller. Its a spool with a ratchet and release mechanism, integral lever, 2 hooks and cables. This one is 4 ton rated for $25... Not sure I'd trust it; I payed double for mine (its a 1 or 2 ton, cant remember)... B Think of it as a poor man's winch... (but more versatile)
-
Ok, sorry, I forgot that one... But thats the only one I have heard of, and I merely attribute it to him being from Seattle and liking it... Sheesh, baggie full of teeth... B
-
I've heard people taking them off of fords/jeeps/etc in junkyards, and I'm sure there must be new aftermarket suppliers, but having a MT I never payed attention... mws, 88pathyoffroad, lgranch and some others I cant think of right now all have good info on this. Use the search function here, look in the garage section up top under pinned topics, etc. It's not that hard, and many people have done it. If it turns you off, ok, but remember that no vehicle is perfect, especially 4x4s... If you have your heart set on an auto, you just need to do your homework and decide. I'll probably get flack for this, but the 4runners are also great vehicles. Slightly larger and heavier I believe, but aftermarket components are more common. I was looking at them along with pathys... One thing is that they are more expensive for basically the same vehicle. Also, the 91-95 (I believe) V6 have head gasket issues. Seems that they used faulty gaskets so they blow intermittently. The stealerships will fix SOME under a silent recall but not all. There is a 1-800# you can call with the VIN to see if that truck is deemed problematic (I dont have the # any more buy you can find it pretty easy). One guy had his replaced at 300k miles for free while others couldn't get it done at 80k... Some people have had no problems, while others had theirs done 3 times. Its a $1.5k-2k repair at the stealership. Seems to me that with the lower sale price of a pathy and possible head gasket repair savings, that pays for a tranny easy were it necessary. Pick your poison my man... For what it's worth, the MT drive and shift fine, and when I replaced my clutch, it was so soft and smooth I thought I screwed something up. Nope... Not trying to convince you to get a pathy or a MT, just trying to inform you. Best advice I can give you is be patient and do your homework... GL Bud B

Auto trannys are definitely more convenient for street driving, and some will claim the same for off road, but personally, I prefer a stick when wheeling. Sure, it takes a little more work, but I feel that you have better control and is perhaps easier on the brakes. I like the way that you have exact wheel control with a stick, but then you can also fry your clutch if you dont pay attention. I guess it really comes down to personal preference.... One main point to me is that a new OEM clutch (everything from flywheel to throw out bearing) is about $250 and 1-2 days of work depending on amount of help and how mechanical you are while the auto tranny is $1k-2.5k to have it rebuilt, and as lgranch (who seems to know) points out, the results are hit and miss. I dont believe I have ever heard of someone destroying a manual tranny in the 90-95 pathys; not saying it hasn't happened or couldn't be done if you try... I know a lot of people here have autos that seem to hold up well as long as the tranny cooler issue is addressed.... Well, this didn't really answer anything, did it ?? B

I figured out why I get a stutter sometimes...

Yeah, with custom holes... LOL B -
Hey Bud, the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve issue shouldn't be a big deal. It it either choking off the supply, or dumping a lot of exhaust back into the intake... While you dont want to run like this for a long time, I would be suprised if it caused any significant issues; truck will just run/idle crappy. I tried to look it up in the manual to verify this, but I cant find the Farking thing !!! ARGH !! I'll chime in again if I find it, but I'm pretty sure you will be ok limping it into town... GL !! B

Ahh, torched rotor... But now the question is why did that happen ?? B -
Hey Z, mws is fulla crap, the Whitman arm never fails on these things... You could make it much easier on the seller if you just rented a car for a day, whats $50 if you are going to do this ? Ask about the clutch, tires, brakes, etc. That can be $1k easy right off the bat. SF is hilly and the bay area has some nasty traffic so dont expect 200k miles out of the clutch. What kind of driving did they do, how about the owner before that ?? I probably wont be in that area any time soon, I tend to avoid it... Again, I'm not promising, but it's not that big of a deal to go there and check it out. Besides, I'm unemployed right now... As for the 'total stranger' bit, helping people out is whats lacking these days.... I believe in assisting when possible and realistic. Anyway, keep us posted ! B

Ditto to that !! Besides, no bears have ever been interested in any advances I've make... (there are usually some in the glove box anyway) B
