Windstars don't have V8s, they have 3.8L V6s, hell no minivan has a V8 in it from the factory. The only vans with V8s in them from Ford are the Econoline series. I would think you could hit 100, my old thing hit 95 with some struggle but it's an older TBI engine with a lot of miles, though it is a manual. You've got an MPFI with a little more power.

When I hit 95 the other day everything still felt tight and calm. There was no jittery-ness or anything, just fast smooth speed. Agreed with Garret though, the brakes were a little lacking until it slowed down to about 80.

Wd21 Pathfinder Panhard Drop Bracket
Kingman replied to KovemaN's topic in Solid Axle Swaps, Hardcore Custom Fab
I have to say that I completely lack any kind of brain power to relate that diagram to what it actually is in real life. I really don't like my learning style sometimes... -
Most 6 speed manuals are geared closely together in the higher gears, usually within 500 RPM of each other.

Random thought here. Is your truck a manual? If it is, maybe try and push start it and get it running and then see if the problem persists. My buddy's Toyota truck has a terrible problem with starting, sometimes it'll crank fine then other times it will just click until we push the truck a few feet or push start it. He can hold the key down and if I push it forwards or backwards a few feet it suddenly kicks over. It also kicks over if we hit the starter with a hammer. The starter has been replaced 3 times now as well.

What's the voltage at the starter?

There is a light bulb back there. Remove the ash tray, the remove the black trim piece that surrounds the heater and stereo via 5 screws - 2 on the underside of the top lip, 2 on the underside of the bottom lip, and one recessed where the ash tray is housed. The remove the 2 heater vents by just pulling them out, then remove the plastic caps on the end of the heater control levers and pull the backing plate with the wording and pictures off. It's held in by a few tabs so you'll have to pry a little. Once that is off there's a clear light diffuser that spreads the light across the heater controls. Remove that and your small light is there there. I did forget what kind it is and I looked all over my parts bin for the package that had an extra vew lights in it. But I went to the local auto parts store and they looked up what kind of light it was and it worked like a charm.

Definitely clean up those connections. Not only will it hopefully turn over, but running a starter on low voltage ups the amperage demand and can fry the starter very quickly. If cleaning the connections still doesnt do anything, and you have full power to the starter, and it still clicks, then you have a problem with the pull-in or hold-in winding in the starter solenoid.

The thermostat is unrelated to whether or not the fan blows air.
-
What parts exactly did you replace? Saying you replaced "the brakes" doesn't mean a thing. It could be your brake booster loosing vacuum, your brake booster check valve, your brake lines might have air in them, which falls under the category of what you replaced...

Auto Trans Can't Make Up Its Mind
Kingman replied to RustyButTrusty's topic in 86.5-89 WD21 Pathfinders
One of the biggest problems people have with the '88-'95 Pathfinders is the stock cooler clogging up. The materials used in the RE4RO1A transmissions are weaker and produce more debris than the older L3N71B transmissions used in the old 710 Pickups and the '86.5-'87 Pathfinders. Sadly people will replace or rebuild the transmission only to have it fail again because the cooler is still clogged and still starves the transmission of fluid. Treating the symptom, not the problem. Your best bet, whether it be the problem or not, is to install an aftermarket transmission cooler and completely bypass the factory unit. -
Alternator "field" Disconnect For Deep Water Fording
Kingman replied to Mr.510's topic in General Forums
The spinning rotor and stator inside the alternator generates a lot of heat as it passes electrons, so a fan is needed to cool it so it doesn't have a melt down. -
Check the fuses. There's 2 15A fuses, side by side.

As well as gummed up window tracks.

95 Pathfinder Runs 3K Rpm Doing...
Kingman replied to ac92pathfinder's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
In 5th gear I run exactly 3000 RPM at 64 MPH. -
I don't like it as it is. If it was integrated into the pin striping then it would be alright, but as an emblem I think it's pretty foul.
-
It should start at that temperature. There's a honeycomb heater in the throttle body that heats the gas as it passes through to help with cold starts. Does the engine crank over fine but not fire? Does it barely crank? Does it crank at all? This might be a little too hillbilly, but if you have one of those big heated blankets...plug it in and drape it over the engine. Believe me, it works...

i have a 95 pathfinder and i use it for work alot. meaning paper delivery. i make tons of u turns and turns. my question is when i do make these turns when the lsd gets in on pavement does it kinda chew up the tires on the rear? i been noticeing some wear. Sounds like you're turning too hard. The LSD should not kick in unless there's wheel spin. my other question is that i see people on here butting a maxima alternator. whats the diffrence in a pathfinder alt and a maxima? whats it do to the pathfinder? 90 amp vs. a Pathfinder 60-70 amp. also i noticed on my dash i got this round black thing on the defrost vent. what does that do? thanks Picture.

Can a mod merge these two threads please? http://npora.ipbhost...=0entry452493 EDIT: Didn't read the year and posted information about a WD.

It may not be just full coverage, B. It could be that he's had a few accidents or tickets on his record. Not trying to embarass anyone, but I've seen insurance prices get that high because of such things. Like someone I work with who drive's an '03 Evo. His insurance payment is $500 a month with 2 tickets and a wreckless driving charge. He's almost uninsurable. I took a look at some Pacesetters not too long ago and I was not impressed whatsoever with the build quality. Good thing for the owner of them, is that he's running true dual exhaust on his Pathfinder so the quarter sized cross over hole doesn't matter. And yes, it is the size of a quarter.
-
Yes, that. Because when fans detach themselves from the fan clutch it isn't a pretty sight...
-
Less then 40 at idle, around 40-60 cruising, and up to 120 when it's completely cold.
-
Oil getting too thin when it gets warm causing the lifters to tick?
-
Ah, I see what you mean now. Hopefully MY1PATH will read this and post up his information. He's got a pretty detailed set of instructions for messing with the distributor on these trucks.
-
Put a timing light on the crank pulley and turn the distributor until it reaches 12 degrees. Actually while you're in there, set it to 15 degrees. Better fuel economy and less bogging down.
