  1. This looks sooo much like what happened to my pathy... Weird thing about it was, rear view is on the very last page but it was the first thing I saw when I bought the mag yesterday... My mishap was much worse than his tho... The water was deeper... My pics:
  2. Can everyone see my new AV??? I uploaded it from my PC instead of doing it the other way.
  3. Here's a free video,DVD, or CD-rom from MileMarker comparing winches. I haven't seen it yet because you have to order it from their site, but hey, it's free... Here's an interesting bit of info from the MileMarker website. Copy & Pasted Every day more than 200 million power steering pumps operate flawlessly. Used in all types of vehicles, under every condition, from 50 below to 135 degrees above, the pump must perform for years without service or adjustment. It has to withstand every type of abuse without failure. Having a built-in governor (the pressure relief valve), it is impossible to overload or overwork the pump. The only maintenance required is checking fluid in the system and refilling if needed. Steering is arguably the most important function while driving, so the power steering pump has evolved into the most reliable system on vehicles today. It never fails unless the fluid leaks out for some reason, such as a torn hose. MileMarker chose to design a winch to use this continuous reliable power supply over the battery power used by competitors. After rigorous testing, we learned it was the right choice. We found the pump would operate continuously while pulling heavy loads with our winch and actually ran cooler when winching then it did while driving off-road. Our tests have been confirmed by many others independently, including magazines worldwide, 2 * years of testing by the U.S. Military, and testing by the University of Technology in Australia. MileMarker has passed the most rigorous testing, earning multiple contracts to replace electric winches on military HUMVEE's using the factory installed power steering pumps. Sincerely Yours, Richard E. Aho President MileMarker, Inc.
  4. Well, I clicked on the link. I didn't fill out the form tho... It's kinda long, and I'm in a hurry. If I fill out the form will that possibly lead to my pathy being sponsored?
  5. I've seen the open diff vs. locked many times. So whats the lsd vs locked story? If i'm on an axle twister will an lsd keep me moving when one front and one back tire is off the ground? Or will I have to do the rocking back and forth to build momentum...? I've heard of people adding shims of something to their lsd's to make them a little more "locked", how hard is that to do.? I've got a lock-right on my 95, and last time I had a back tire off the ground I was spinning the airborn tire while the lock-right made the ratching sound real fast. I had to really goose it for the lock-right to lock, and when it did it was like dumping the clutch because I was on dry dirt. So can the lock-right lockers wear out over time? Is that the case with mine? If they can wear out what's the point, unless you can expect to get like 100,000+ miles out of'em?
  6. Oh, hey... I just noticed the rating system... I haven't tried to upgrade my AV for better size, yet. :X
  7. I love what you did with the Garage section. I was in the habit of automaticly hittin page 2 on that. Then today it's like "whoa,,, cool" ... Keep up the great work.
  8. Nooooooo, disassemble number 5....... Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  9. I just found this write-up on installing a SP winch. He does have some good points as to why it can be better than the electric ones. Click here for the write-up.
  10. I know the regular answer would be no, but it seems I've heard you can get the open diff stuff out of a junkyard pathy and then you can put in a locker. Is that possible? I know it sounds like a lot of work, but I'm looking to get a 95SE and I'm pretty sure they come with a rear lsd stock. I'd much rather have a lock-right than a lsd in the rear-end.
  11. I was looking thru a Mile Marker catalog and saw some 8,000lbs-12,000lbs winches that are powered by the power steering pump. What's the deal with these? Sounds like a good idea. Anyone have any experiance or heard anything about'em either positive or negative?
  12. Here's a neat CB trick... Tape a small flouresent tube (Colman Lantern type) to the top of your antenna with black tape. When you key the mic to talk it'll light up the flouro tube without it being plugged in to anything... Kinda wierd to see, but I've always heard it not good for the CB. CB tip of the week: Never key the mic on a CB that doesn't have an antenna attached... You really shouldn't even turn on a CB unless both the mic and antenna are attached. People frequently fry their brand new CB by not knowing this. P.S. If/when you go to a CB shop WATCH closely and ask questions... Learn as much as you can.
  13. If anyone in the Houston area buys a welder and needs some tips I'm usually avalible to help out friends. I love teaching people how to do stuff like that anyway. I have lots of friends who spent over $6000 at a welding school in Tulsa, OK and they know EVERYTHING about welding, but can't put down a pretty bead to save their lives... On the other hand almost everybody I know that learned from their dad, grandpa, friend, or from welder helper experiance can lay down the best beads around. Plus everybody says you get shocked/electrocuted alot at that Tulsa school,,, what's up with that...
  14. Yes they can tell the difference, but you'd have to really give them a reason to want to find you. The thing about CB's is that truckers have made it really easy to do pretty much whatever you want with a CB. There are a lot of truckers out there that run linears up too 500watts. It's about like buying a pioneer CD player for your car and adding an amp for better power. Linears are highly illegal in the US, but that doesn't mean you can't buy one from ANY CB shop out there. Almost all CB's are turned down from the factory. The 4watt law is the reason for this. If you take just about any CB to a good CB shop and tell them you want it "Peaked and Tuned" they will turn your watts up to a good/higher setting where you'll get 6-8 watts out of it. I've had a lot of work done on mine and w/out a linear I'm pushing between 10-12 watts from the antenna, but that's with a beefier aftermarket board and other toys. It's nice to be able to talk above other people if you really need to, and get a few more miles of talking room. It does kinda suck for close range (less than about 100'), but I can just turn down the power will a dial. As long as you don't: make threats of violence, use bad words, or run insane amounts of power from a fixed location you shouldn't ever have to worry about the FCC. As far as the bad word thing goes; I don't really think they care unless they get multible complaints from the same area. I've been around some real bad mouths on the CB since I was a kid and I've never heard of anyone getting a fine, yet. I have heard of the FCC going to truckstops and writing tickets to the linear runners tho.
  15. Poke at the weld with a pointy object... I bet it's just caulk that has paint on it and looks like a weld.
  16. Wooo Hooo, 300 posts :cool2: :o -alcohol- -bounce-
  17. I've seen those on the history channel. It looked like it was just a big canvas tarp they drive onto and then pull up the sides so it'll float.
  18. Actually, you're probly right. If I woulda hit the gas as soon as the front dropped in I may have made it out/up the other side. I let off for fear of hydrolocking the engine. Hindsight's 20/20
  19. It's safe. If you crank up the torsion bars too close to the bumpstops it'll be a ruffer ride on bumpy roads because your front wheels will hit the bumpstops instead of dropping like they're suppose to. Just give'em about a 1/2 inch and you should be fine.
  20. Let me just clear up a couple of things that are still stumping some new guys. JGC= Jeep Grand Cherokee Here is the "how to" thread for this lift... Here are the JGC coils that lift the JGC for about $170 Here's the stock JGC coils that will give about 3" of lift. UCA= Upper Control Arms You CAN do this lift with nuthin but an ajustable wrench, and a jack. And maybe a little elbow grease... I borrowed the spring compressors from autozone and ended up not using them because they were just getting in the way. If you buy the $170 JGC lift springs you'll most likely have to use a spring compressor. Don't buy a SC. You can "borrow them for free from AutoZone or other parts stores. They just make you throw down a deposit. You do not have to jack up the front to crank the torsion bars up... It'll be a little harder to turn the nut, but it's no big deal. The body lift is probly a lot harder... I haven't done one, but I've hear how it can be a pain in the a$$.
  21. This was posted by me in the TNT forums but I figured ya'll might want to see what I had to say about the park... Copy/pasted: The MAIN problem out there is that the mud doesn't have a bottom. So the guys with the broncos and super jeeps and suburbans with 44's and bigger run around out there and make insane holes that even they can't make it thru.(check out the scout pics Rolling Eyes ) If that were my park or IF I had some kinda sayso out there I'd first put up some regularly updated signs about innocent looking stuff... If there had been a sign there that said DEEP WATER, I woulda never tried to run thru that hole. But it looked soooo shallow without any visible big/deep ruts that would normally throw up a flag to think about how bad it might be under the murky water. I'm not really laying blame. I knew what COULD happen when I left the house. I just had no idea I'd end up in water that deep. I figured "worse case" I'd get stuck in some sticky stinky nasty mud and get all dirty trying to hook up my HI-Lift to a tree, and maybe someone wold come along and pull me out... But darn. Second thing I'd do is bulldoze the hell out of those impassable spots that give eveyone the most trouble. I realize that some people wouldn't really like that. (that would be the 44+clubs) Denny told me that most of his business right now is ATV's, and that they are really wanting him to limit or ban the BIG 4x4's because they are making the trails so bad that they are the only ones who can run'em w/out a major problem. Third, I'd ban beer on the trails... I wish I had a trash bag when I was riding the 4wheeler around I coulda darn near made my money back recycling BUD LIGHT cans... They currently do not say anything about drinking and 4wheelin... Rolling Eyes I see how they are new to this and probly don't want to discurage the party crowd from coming, but somebody's gonna get killed out there as a direct result of beer... Mark my words on that... I bet I heard 8-10 horror stories about some guy riding his 4wheeler and having some drunk just about run'em down because they're running 40+mph and top a hill and can't stop fast enough so the guy on the 4wheeler has to pretty much run off the road to avoid an accident. Last I'd make a few campsites out in the park. Currently you have to camp right up front unless you bring a weedeater, a machet, and the will to clear some land. I think I may look into getting a 4wheeler for places like that. I'll save the pathy for places like Barnwell Mt.
  22. Ya, you may just have to try back in a few minutes... It's been doing that every since I added that 3rd page. Those are mostly small file sizes, so I don't know what's goin on with that??? :contract: If you can see the 3 pics above, it'll probly work.
  23. It's real easy if you follow the directions. I didn't it by myself in about 1.5hrs. The hard part is finding the JGC coils.
  24. Thanks for all the kind words. I got the other pics developed and here's the link. That was a hellova day. I luv this pic. Looks like it just sunk in quicksand or something. :o Break out the ol john deere tractor. Can you believe that much mud can come from water just standing in the truck. I never opened the door so there was never water running in the truck. It took about 30mins to fill up to the point where it was level with the rest of the water.
