  1. you re-ground schneider cam likely had the base-cirlcle ground down to create more lift.(the lifter compresses less overall and so it raises the valve more when it reaches the lobe peak). this can typically be remedied by placing an appropriate sized shim inside the lifter before it is installed. I will pobably be shimming my new lifters for the schneider cams once I know how much they took off the base-circle. I'll try to remember to make a shiming guide.
  2. how's your strut rod bushings? its not uncommon for front to back to be 1/8 differan but tierod extension too...
  3. Um the compression already is 9:1 so how about 9.5 or 10:1(it was 8.5 & 8.7 for the turbo motors) also why not go with a newer VG33, go big or go home!
  4. I think he takes the cake so far but how about 240,000 and been with the pathy the whole time?
  5. yes you can! the AT shifter cables will reach up to a 3" BL with no modifacation. then you will be less likely to hit your fenders with your tires
  6. go to photobucket.com or imageshack.com and create a free account. once you upload pics there you can link the images here.
  7. lets not forget that eaton M62 and eaton M90 superchargers can be bolted directly to the lower manifold. someone said they don't provide much but 40 ftlbs @ 4 psi of boost seems like allot to me esp when thats the stock pulley. And lets not forget 40 ftllbs from a supercharger is felt across the board vs equal or more from a turbo that you have to wait for it to spool up. Sorry I guess I'm stuck on the whole SC Idea and wont budge maybe I'll do one in the far future.(after my VG36 wich is also far away)
  8. inspite your soaking (which is very good) the only way to get a new lifter to be silent on first start(not essential) is to cycle them in oil (compress repeatedly) or dissasemble them and re-assemble under oil (very messy). Keep sharp on your oil changes and they should stay silent for at least 100K or more. Lifter and cam wear: I'm sure they did, but not in a way that you would think. the lifters rotate while running so the cam wears them evenly with no groved spots. Because both surfaces are smooth and hardened the worn surface just looks like a mirror shine. If you were to mic. your cam lobes they might be .003 shorter than when they were new and the same for your lifter pads. Worry not, your engine will run fine(.390 lift instead of .393) the cams I just sent to schneider were just like that and came from a lesser mileage donor engine.
  9. 2" or 2.25" pipe. High flow muffler of your choice (I prefer magnaflow) and a high flow cat (carsound/mangnaflow direct fit). Borla makes a great sounding 2.5" cat-back system but My opinon is that 2.5" is too big for these stock engines.
  10. I have a blac vinyl pouch, the jack fits in it but instead it holds my Nissan Tire Iorn, spare lugs and Nissa Spark Plug tools.
  11. the alcho burns Allot cleaner and produces almost zero emissons compared to gasoline. if you run it too often I might rot older injector seals. A cat requires heat to begin its chemical reaction between the catylist and Hydrocarbons in your exhaust. the caytlist inside most cats is rated for about 5 years but of course many will pass emissions for much longer than that.
  12. my 89 the first mark is 0
  13. The oil May last that long but does it stay clean that long? our hydraulic lifters get noisy from particles suspended in the oil wearing on them as the oil pases thru them. Older cars with timing chains would wear in the same way and that is the true origin of the 3,000 mile oil change. If your think your oil is staying clean enough all 10,000 miles then I guess keep doing what your doing. Mine usually gets darker right arround 3,000.
  14. X2 HooHaa CL is awesome and if you pair it with the dual steering box mod I'm working You'll never have to replace a CL or IA again. http://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/forum/index.php?topic=908.0
  15. crosover pipe so did it come from your rear main or your tranny input (hope neither) or is it blow by from a bad oil filter seal or oil Preassure swich or valve cover gasket or .... you know where its buring but are you sure where its coming from?
  16. switching from 5w30 to 10w40 cut my oil consuption in half. 240kmiles 5w30 to 10w30 will not make as big of a differance on oil consuption becasue the 5w and the 10w are typically measured @ 32F How long does your oil spend @ that temp? 10w30 to 10w40 will help because the 30 and 40 are typically measured @ 200F or 210F which is allot closer to our oil temp when the engine has warmed up.
  17. remove the wires from the cap, take the whole dizy inside, warm up and wait for me to link you this..... Ok you warm yet? try to get that last dizy cap screw off and prolly replace it. once you can get the cap off you can follow these useful steps. http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=22081&view=findpost&p=389718 If you haven't done your cap and rotor in a long time maybe consider it. New caps come with new screws and they just need to be snug not too tight .
  18. White the engine is arlready fairly clean. I've done some old muscle cars with original un-molested engines and the smoke was black.
  19. the folks next door use 90% denatured alchol for any welding prep.(Professional Aircraft welding) Acetone is another safe altrenative and most people have 70% isopropyl alcohol (common to grocery stores) which is also safe but not as effective.
  20. sounds like low tranny oil... look for leaks arround the tranny, If they did a bad job sealing it to the t-case(MT) it can leak out the side. If your t-case seals are bad(MT) it can fill your t-case untill the t-case pumps it out the driveshaft. How about road debris caught up in the exhaust?
  21. extend the jack all the way take the 4 scews of the bottom and then just golp about an once of fresh light weight lithum or polybase grease in there so it coats the internal screws and ring/pinion. this will ensure smooth and lower effort opperation when you need it.
  22. If you use heat after using penetant be careful! wipe it dry with acetone before applying heat because some of areosol flids create deadly gasses when the burn. I belive A member of N4w was hospitalized because he used brake cleaner to prep his welds.IIRC the worst of it was that all they could do is put him on oxygen and hope he hadn't inhaled enough to completely shut down his lungs.
  23. hey its all good the sohc is pretty much the same engine and the dohc is pretty close in allot of aspects too.
  24. on a scale of 1-10 my Nokian Vatiiva MT's are about a 4 or 5. An agressive tire will def be louder and balance can contribute to that. 1 being a well balanced street performance tire and 10 being heavily treaded tractor like Mud tires. I see no way that bearings can be damaged just from installing tires.
  25. After spraning repeatedly tap the bung with the end of a wrench or a small hammer to help it penetrate.
