R50 Tire Carrier Mod: Let's settle this!

For anyone whose geeking out on this tire carrier, me and @Astrorami just figured out this might be the rarest OEM part for pathfinders -
Do you have a picture of the cutoff line/glare?

Just to give you a quick answer, when I talked to Micah, he's got a 3/4" spacer up front, and then everything else is like you said. -
R50 Tire Carrier Mod: Let's settle this!

Alright, this is crazy, but my dad just showed me a picture of the pathfinder that we owned when I was in elementary school. I kid you not, this is the pathfinder in the junkyard with the new style carrier that I just shipped to @Astrorami. The badging, trim, everything matches, including the fact that it had a tire carrier (looking for more pictures of it), but as of now, I have every reason to believe that my family has twice owned that rear tire carrier assembly. Pretty crazy, lots of history behind this -
03 pilot. Have you checked that cubby under the carpet?
-
My mom had an 03 with that exact subwoofer setup, it was a crappy treated paper one. Terrible sound and no power. But, I bet you could do better on your own. I think they make drop in replacements for that location on 4th gen 4runners, which means something like that must be viable in your scenario too.
-
Good deal, you might want to hit those bolts with some WD40 or whatnot before you try it. I had to let them sit a few hours before I finally got it loose with a breaker bar
-
Did you buy one already, or are you making your own?
-
Holes from center to center are about 22.25, and the bar itself is about 23.5
-
Ya that sounds about right. Holes are somewhere just over 22” if I remember correct. I can measure mine if you want.
-
Ya, it’s a great place. Lots of hiking and outdoor recreation to be had within an hour of the valley. Hopefully I’ll come back after college.

Idk how high you can go without one, but I’d guess that’s pretty close to it -
NW. I live just outside of Boise, ID. There’s forest trails and desert trails, depends if you head north or south

9448’s? Are you gonna do a panhard drop? Could be interested in the OME shocks -
Noted, I hadn’t quite thought about it that way. I’ll add a fairing to help avoid the rack catching things, but I think your point remains valid. Thanks for that
-
All of that, exactly. And ya the look from the side is one small downside. The level tube compared to the side rails makes it look like the bar is sagging. But the extra width does do all those things you mentioned, so I’m very interested in it
-
Well, for now, I’m kinda liking the wide look. The way the car narrows at the top has kinda annoyed me, and this will offset that a little. If figure it’s a little easier to add lighting if I go on top. But, if for whatever reason I don’t like it, I can always chop it up and resize it to fit in the existing rack. I figure go big and then make it smaller, instead of risking going the other way around
-
Gotchya.
-
Not sure, but if you have your heart set on that I bet I could pull one from a junkyard and get it to you for about half that
-
More mock up. I’m thinking 1” or 1.5” steel bar for a mini fairing up front. I have a coworker who can weld this all together for me. Dimensions are 60x45.
-
Alright, I guess I’m a little confused. How do HID’s not do that, and don’t you have a similar problem with your halogens then?
-
Thanks for the info, I’ve seen those Xterra racks a few times before and thought about trying to replicate it, but I thought it might be easier to go on top. Plus, I was hoping the extra width and height might give the rack a better look. Also if I want to add any lighting, I feel like going on top makes that easier (especially side/surround lighting).
-
I thought I was one the right track with this project, but so far the two people I’ve asked are on the fence. I wanted a low profile platform rack to strap on to my existing roof bars, kinda like the flat racks that you see on 4runners. I mocked up a frame out of EMT, I’d love to hear your guys thoughts on the asthetics of it. I’ll add crossbars if I like this shape. I just wanted something a little wider than the current rails, and with more cross bars than what I currently have. I also want low profile. Anyhow, thanks in andvance

If i remember correctly, you already tried LED's? did you try turning them 90* in the housing or anything like that? Mine have a pretty clean cutoff, but it took me a while to get to that point.
