  1. why would you want to go fast in LO? isn't that what HI is for?
  2. today it warmed up to -13*C and it's been snowing since last night about 15cm or 6". that on top of all the polished hard packed snow of the last storm that the city hasn't cleaned up yet is making for some interesting driving! I've haven't taken the truck out of 4x4 since Saturday.
  3. "Stoic" on expedition portal, is running a set of those on his( 2002?) I do believe he is running 1.25 spacers to clear the strut. I'm looking to do this myself as soon as my current tires are done.(hopefully soon!)
  4. I've switched both diffs to full synthetic, Mobil 1 synth in the engine and fresh fluid in the T-case. it helps, but Ya this type of cold just sucks.
  5. what I meant was sometimes it feels like this.
  6. sometimes it feel like this.
  7. ya, every once and a while winter starts to get me down...but then I go camping! I'm doing a 3 day snowshoe trip through the lake country on the border of Manitoba and Ontario with a few other guys. should be fun, though I do hope it warms up a little -15 to -20 would be OK. -36 is brutal.
  8. at this temperature it takes about 20min to reach operating temp at idle. the transmission doesn't warm up for another 10, and the rolling resistance of the tires is increased by probably 50%. the oil in the shocks feels frozen the diffs and brake fluids are as thick as molasses. I have to drive about 30minutes before the truck begins to feel like it's working properly. In summer I get about 200-250km on half a tank of gas, now between idle time (warming up) and the increased drag of everything being frozen I can half that. sure beats riding my bike though. I did that 365 days a year for 7years.
  9. woke up to -36"C (-45*C with windchill) the Pathy wasn't plugged in but the starter turned over about 3 times and then it caught. man this truck is awesome!
  10. have you changed the fuel filter? sounds like it's getting starved for fuel. could be sediment in the tank. thats my 2cents. butterfly valve in the carb sticking?
  11. look through the members rides section to get some ideas. that will show you what's possible and let you figure out what you want to do with your truck
  12. Haynes has most manuals in video form available on line. (for a sign up fee of course) and it means running in and out of the house, unless you have a laptop or tablet. sounds like you have a number of problems all happening at once. if it's running rich there is a temperature sensor issue, one cylinder not firing, can be a host of things, like dead spark plug or just a bad wire. it could also be a simple thing like a tank of bad gas. my advice is to approach it one system at a time. fuel system, electrical, air intake, etc... do you have access to an OBD2 code reader? that could help you narrow down which system is acting up.
  13. nice job! its always satisfying when a project works out the way you wanted.
  14. sounds like that puppy needs a good hwy burn! sometimes not running your engine at prime operating temps can lead to bad fuel economy. Not hot enough for long enough, build up of carbons and such, engines alway run most efficiently at high way RPM and temperatures. Mine sucks in the cold(-30*C) combined with short trips. like less than a Lamborghini with a V12!
  15. ya it takes quite a few turns to notice any difference. its probably 2 turns of the "cap" for 1/2 degree of angle movement.
  16. sounds like you just have to figure out the sequence. once you start using remote start when it's cold you'll never stop!
  17. mostly 13 yr old stock parts with what looks like a newer muffler. all of it is holy. I mean leaky! held together with muffler tape, beer cans and pipe clamps. all will soon be replaced when I get the funds.
  18. yes you have a remote start! it's great when it's cold out. is there more than two buttons on your key fob? mine has one with a lightning bolt type icon on it and that is the remote start button. once pushed the doors lock, and the engine starts. It will run until the engine temperature reaches peak operating point, or half way up the gage roughly about 15 minutes. pushing the brake will cause the engine to shut down, followed by some "clicking" sound as it resets. you can then start with the key as normal. and the doors will lock again.
