the idea of having a 20ish year old truck with less mileage than my 14 year old truck seems kinda weird. I guess when you're as financially insecure as me, being able to afford a vehicle you only use once and a while is a foreign concept. the idea of having a truck in your garage just sitting waiting to be used seems crazy. great find, that thing is MINT!

35s will not fit unless you do a sub frame drop. under compression your tires will rip the fenders to shreds. Even then big wide tires won't fit under the strut spring perch unless you run huge wheel spacers or massively offset rims. the issue with the R50 is the strut style front suspension. 2 inches is the most you can lift with either a spacer or lift springs. anything more will over stress the front CV joints and they will bind. the reason for the SFD is that it lowers the front drive line thereby keeping the CV angles within spec. lifting the rear more than 2 inches also adds its own complications. as you push the rear axle down (usually with longer springs) it moves slightly forward, shortening your wheel base and changing the handling characteristics of the vehicle. to keep the rear axle centred you will have to fit adjustable control arms as well as longer shocks to allow the negative (down) travel to be in line with the up. the top out issue is cause by lift springs keeping the front struts at almost maximum extension all the time. when a wheel falls into a hole the spring pushes the strut to maximum extension faster than the oil inside can control it thereby making that loud "clunk" sound which over time wrecks the strut. the only solution is to fit a longer travel strut, unfortunately as far as we know nobody makes one. spend some time in the R50 section or Members Rigs to find some Ideas of what is possible... there is also a section called max tire size vs. lift you'll be surprised just how capable this truck is even in stock form with good tires!

VQ w/ possible blown headgaskets, how to be sure
bushnut replied to Canadian's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I think you answered your own question...never re use a gasket, they are cheep enough to always use a new one. worst case scenario...you may have a crack in the block or the heads are warped. this can happen when an engine overheats. -
remember if you put in lift springs the shocks need to be longer than stock. so you get enough down travel. that was my mistake with the KYBs. it road on the street ok but I could feel it in tight corners and while off road...the new longer shocks have solved the problem.
-
I had KYB but they were to short for my lift....so on went some bilstein 5150s, fantastic ride railroad tracks are now just a brraap! and gone.
-
ya i know but they are different...I'll probably plasti- dip them like the old ones.
-
I fit the rim on before I installed my spacers and it cleared just fine. now I've got an extra 1.25" of room so I don't think I'll have any problems.
-
they look like this but with a triangular hub cap.
-
I read about that too it doesn't make any sense, the brake calliper does not change in size when new pads are installed.
-
well...They fit! its a tight fit but they do. picked up 4 for $50.00. they need a cleaning but are in great shape, no dents or scratches, and two of the hub caps are cut out for manual hubs. now to hunt down some tires!

The final word on lifting the R50 at a low Cost
bushnut replied to fleurys's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
yes, even 235s won't clear the strut spring perch. 1.25in should be all you need....BTW I'm installing my spacers today I'll post pics tonight. -
have you checked codes yet?
-
that makes me feel better somehow.......mine leaks oil all over the place.
-
O2 sensors are cheaper than injectors. Have you done the usual? cleaned MAF? air filter etc...how's the exhaust ? major holes will rob power. an engine needs to exhale as well as it inhales.
-
there are alway more questions....how else do you learn anything? we are always here to help when we can.
-
the reason I'm looking at the older wheels is that for some reason 15in tires seem to be less expensive than the similar 16in version. like 50 to 60 bucks cheeper. can't figure out why though. so if I go with the 15s I'm looking at some 31x10.5x15 similar size to my stock 245/70/16 . the short list in no particular order....cooper AT3, general grabber AT2, or Canadian Tire only Wrangler Territory.
-
why wont they fit the 2002? isn't that the same as my 2000?
-
We can make it better, we have the technology...
bushnut replied to PerlNinja's topic in General Forums
right on man, If you own it, keep it! and only 190,00km thats peanuts. do the work, enjoy it and feel proud that you've done most of it yourself. -
will 15in Legos fit on my 2000 pathy? I know about the brake calliper issue just wondering about back spacing and bolt pattern... found a good deal but don't want to make a dumb mistake..
-
whats it look like under the hood? a leaky valve cover gasket could seep enough oil to drip onto the exhaust manifold yet not register on the dip stick.
-
glade to here its all good maybe we should move this one the "the hall of shame"
-
the rotor and brake assembly SHOULD NOT JUST SIDE OFF . something is very bad..I would rip it all apart again before driving anywhere.

sometimes the quality of fuel can be directly related to how well your engine is preforming.
