I think i found my suspension clunk.
ferrariowner123 replied to ferrariowner123's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I dont know, well find out, im going to get some money in the bank and give Rob a call, have him order me some parts. Looks to be the case, hopefully its an easy change. -Kyle -
While rebuilding my swing away warning sensor, my buddy poked around my rear suspension inspecting bushings and sway bar links, nothing look terrible except for the ugly shocks which will be replaced shortly. (Despite what the asshat at les schwab said, telling me all of my trailing arm bushings were blown) However, we stumbled upon this... It suppose to be mounted to the top, at least according to the other side it is. lol And judging from how clean the inside of my coil is, im gonna go out on a limb and say its been flopping around in there causing my suspension clunk. , either way it needs to be changed. So i think, im going to replace that when i do the rear shocks, but she hasn't been knocking recently. so im still equally puzzled at what the heck is going on with my pathy as i was before today. But thought id share because alot of you helped with this, ill update my findings and let you know how it went. -Kyle

Well i have a little update, i was able to get my mileage up, Following the advice of fixinto, did an experiment on the last tank, and tried shifting as much as i could, at, or under 2500 RPM, but there was a lot of highway driving on that tank as well, i think im going to get a new exhaust made soon, after i get the suspension fixed, and oil leak contained, i've heard that unlocks some more horsepower and MPG, plus sounds FRICKIN AWESOME, i've heard the VG33 with a flowmaster 40 series, sounds so throaty, i love it and cant wait to have it done. I might throw a Bosch universal upper O2's at it, see what happens, who knows, might go up, but the $800-$1000 investment in new headers would never pay themselves back in gained MPG. Maybe down the road if i need to a serious engine overhaul wil they get replaced, but she is running like a champ. My ego is a little bruised but its money in my pocket. lol Ill post an update if that tank is an anomaly and let you know where i go from there. -Kyle

Went to the gunk yard trying to find a powered one, and I found a fixed, floppy one instead. I thinks it's off an XE model, so that's what I run now, I love it, none of the stupid up and down crap. -Kyle -
Nothing ehh? hmmmm well when i had asked around, a few people had said my IAC was dirty and cleaning it out will do it, but it usually only affects it when its cold. or atleast thats what i was told. Hmmm, whats your recent maintenance looking like? -Kyle

Just a heads up on a used ARB bumper in Charlotte, NC
ferrariowner123 replied to stioc's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
its fits, i think you just get a weird gap, because the 01+ have a different front end, but the mounts are the same. -
Run an OBD reader, see if you get any ignition related codes. my knock sensor was bad, not too long ago, i had similar if not identical issues as you, i believe my bad knock sensor was the source of all my pain.

Thats good news, i think? I was more curious at the Swap status, lol sorry im dying to know about this capability. -Kyle

Any news?

hahahaha sometimes you can really turn my day around, i've been sick for the last two days and that just made sitting at home, nothing to do, a little bit better! -
What about getting a hold of a Z32 or 350 transmission and having an adapter plate made to make it mate up to the VQ engine, i know that Chuck over on Nico said that the manual for the pathy couldn't handle the torque. Well what about getting a trans that can? There is a company in Florida called Mazworx that makes an adapter plate that will get the VH engine (infinity q45 V8) and adapt it to a Z32 VG transmission. This is their kit http://www.mazworx.com/product/vhvg-into-schassis/vhvg-schassis-mounts-and-adapter-kit i its $1500 but its specifically meant to fit into an S14 silvia chasis, but its a good concept, so if you can find a hardcore fab shop that can do a VQ to VG (or whatever else you can find) adapter plate, that might be worth doing. Just throwing out some ideas. -Kyle

Wait, i just had a thought, wouldn't my CEL be tripped if if saw my O2's were reading weird? Or shouldn't i be able to see jumps in readings though a diagnostic tool? I had the O2's checked when i took it in after my knock sensor replacement, and they said the O2's were fine, but they didn't specify if they car was running, unless the only way to know is if the car is running. Is there a way i can confirm the O2's are getting bad readings by way a of blown/ crack manifold? i just really want to confirm all of this before i spend alot on new manifolds. let me know what you think guys. -Kyle
-
Now that's what I'm talking about. Head over to the Z forums. I bet they would know.
-
Yeah, i figured as much, but my1path is on to something, maybe sourcing a trans from a similar car? but making it all work together may prove to be problematic. its really hard to say.

There is definitely a ton of manual's available on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-02-03-04-PATHFINDER-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION-/380487135023?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2002%7CMake%3ANissan%7CModel%3APathfinder&hash=item5896ccef2f&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-02-03-04-PATHFINDER-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION-/380487368409?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2002%7CMake%3ANissan%7CModel%3APathfinder&hash=item5896d07ed9&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-Manual-Transmission-Tested-Good-/300843901656?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2002%7CMake%3ANissan%7CModel%3APathfinder&hash=item460bb1a2d8&vxp=mtr You might be able to work out a deal with guys on ebay to get you some of the stuff for a swap, master, slave, hard lines, distribution blocks, dash panels, etc. Its going to be a lot to get one over though, but it would be so worth it to get a manual in that beast. -Kyle

I cant say for sure, but im fairly sure they are different. If they transmissions aren't different, the bell-housings are definitely different. There was one guy way back on the forums who i think was doing either a 3.5 swap into a pre 99 or a manual swap on a 01+. I cant remember correctly, but i remember he has a difficult time getting a hold of a 3.5 bell-housing. I can try and dig up that old thread for you if you like. (it didn't have a lot of info and he either gave up, never updated his page, or was killed, (i remember him being Russian )) Is looking in the states for a 3.5 wreck out of your reach? Puerto Rico is close enough to get some access to american parts? no? But i wish you well on your swap, your pathy is friggin HOT and going to be a very fun build to watch, keep us posted on what you end up doing... -Kyle
-
Not only has someone done it, but there is a how to. Given its for the pre facelifted pathfinders, but its probably of some use. http://overlandtrucks.com/system-f/Transmission%20Conversion%20Manual_final.pdf -Kyle

Ugh, i've been either really good at ignoring it, or its all attacking me at once. Yeah, im starting to realize that now, but we can blame my loaner car, my buddy lent me when pathy was in the shop, His "I" swapped E30, made me realize how unbelievably slow the pathfinder is. lol Im gonna get her all fixed up and go from there. But you have to sympathize with me, modding is way more fun than keeping it going. Fixing gets really old, really fast. -Kyle
-
No but its the next logical step. Where was yours so i have a starting place. Hmm maybe ill try some of that, but im getting really sick of fixing this thing, so much so that i've started looking at new cars. Im a guy, so i gun it from time to time, but im not rally racing my pathfinder,to the point where mileage decreases are noticeable. Thanks for the advice guys, have a lot to think about. ill be making an order for dorman manifolds soon, and having my local exhaust guy install them for me. But i rebuilt my halfshafts on Friday (now has rockford CV's) and noticed that i now have a really bad oil leak, and a coolant leak. As you can tell, this car wants to kill my wallet. -Kyle
