  1. Not those King products. Something else. Only place I can find these part numbers are in ebay listings with no info. I have sent a few emails to a main distributor for King Springs in AUS. To see if they can find any information. I'll post findings.

As for King Springs, $185 AUD a pair plus shipping. Getting shipping quote now to Miami, Fl.

Damn, thought I'd found it. I should have known it wouldn't be that easy!!

  2. I find this documentary very fascinating. Come back and watch it when you have 15 minutes to spare.

Yo' mods. I vote to change the title of this thread to reflect something more towards WWII. Change it to whatever you fancy or discretion. You guys have proven to be top quality thread jackers!! :)

Glad you appreciate our efforts!!! :aok:

Yes. I totally agree. Even though that older WD21 Pathy is in the way, it is one nice looking rig. Don't you have a better shot of her?

    :laugh: :laugh: :laugh::rofl:

    Hey Greg!!

Yeah, everything you have said is absolutely true, anything can get stuck if you try, although some put up a damn good fight! The reality comes in 3 levels AFAIC.

That are you trying to do/where are you trying to go?

My version of wheeling is more expedition style where you get no points for breaking things or getting stuck, there might not be anyone to get you out! I pick my line carefully and look for the easy way...

Nothing against the mud boggers or rock crawlers, they are just different sports AFAIC.

Fair enough Bud, it's your truck and you know what you want it for. I will play devils advocate though... ;)

Rims and tires: Wider rims for a more stable stance and some aggressive AT or even mild MT tires will make the biggest difference there is. The wider rims help keep the body off of obstacles...

Mild suspension lift: Rear coils and cranking the T-bars/alignment. 2" benefit for less than $200

Swap in an LSD rear if you do not have it already

Good recovery points, meaning dual hooks up front and a good point in the rear...

You don't have to dive into every mudhole you see, but a little bit upgrade will make the pathy far more capable!

Here is my example. Ignore the bumper and it has a 2" body lift as well as a suspension lift so -2" at the wheel wells, otherwise those are 15x8" rims with 31" tires on it. Not remotely overdone and perfectly drivable every day, yet quite capable offroad.

Did I lose any classic lines? :D

I'm with B, I'm more into the expedition/go see what's over that hill type of froading. Some guys have really nice, clean looking trucks but I decided to go "Ghetto" with mine. It had some scratches & the paint job was not at it's best when I bought it, so I decided to just make it functional & not really care about what it looks like. There's been a couple of jokes because I've not made any attempt to keep my truck looking "pretty", but I don't care, it has gone everywhere I've ever wanted to go & has never let me down. I don't use it for a daily driver, so I don't need to keep it respectable. I really love my Pathy, on the expedition trips I organize we have all kinds of amazingly (read expensively) upgraded Heep's, Yoyta's, etc, & my Pathy goes everywhere they go (usually I'm in front) albeit sometimes with a door ding or two!!

Every person has their own idea of what they want from their rig, some want to keep it pretty much stock (such as yourself, stioc, karmann, etc) & that's cool. It's surprising what a stock-ish vehicle can do with the right driver. For those that want to rock crawl, etc, they obviously need a different set up from us expedition types so their trucks will be geared to that style. There's no right or wrong, no better rig, etc, it's all down to personal choice & what you intend to use the truck for. B is correct though in that a small lift, bigger tires, etc, will enhance the trucks capabilities & if you can do a good job (as precise & others have done) to make your rig capable without making it look like a clowns car (such as mine :lmao: ) then kudos to you. It's your truck bro, you have it looking how you want it to look & if it does what you want it to do then it's a good truck. :aok:

  4. Not terribly in depth, but it touches enough to point out some of the foolishness and spark discussion.

I'm the first to call someone who cuts off their cat (for any reason) a D!(%head, but as the article points out, some of the emission goals are getting rediculous. I'd argue that more effort needs to be put into fuel efficiency than emissions at this point (an obvious way to significantly cut them further) and electric vehicles. Convincing Johnny Little Prick that his Super Duty 350 isn't an acceptable vehicle to commute to his desk job (ie change in attitudes and mentality) would go a long way as well!

As for the safety part, I think the illustration that a 2003 S-class Mercedes wouldn't pass current safety standards says it all; that is plain stupid! Lets focus more on better driving habits and stiffer penalties for excessive behavior and accidents...

35 in a 25mph school zone? $500 ticket the first time just might make you pay better attention.

Texting and cell phone use has been proven to be as dangerous as drunk driving. You lose your license and have still penalties for a drunk driving conviction, so do the same for cell phone use! (this includes cops)

Make an accident caused by clearly negligent driving be a misdemeaner with required court fines/sentencing.

Might seem harsh, but it would make things a lot safer and cut down on the idiot drivers who don't seem to care significantly. It seems to be forgotten that driving is a priviledge, not a right.

    *End Rant*

    A-EFing men brother!!

  5. Great post beastpath! Very interesting & correct on so many points. I also have to side with Precise1 on some points though, history is indeed written by the victors (& often embellished, Caesar's "Gallic Wars is a good example). He is also correct about projectile mass, velocity, etc, being part of the equation & the Sherman being equal or even superior to the short barreled (hence low velocity) guns of the PZKW III & previous models. The PZKW IV was originally intended as an infantry support tank (the PZKW II was intended to engage enemy armor) but in the face of tanks such as the T34 the PZKW III (based on pre war doctrines) was outclassed so the PZKW IV was upgraded with the KwK 40 L/43 anti-tank gun & brought into an anti armor role. However, even the PZKW IV was outclassed by the T34 & KV series of Russian tanks hence the design of my favorite tank of the war, the PZKW V or more commonly the (inspired by the T34) "Panther" tank sporting sloped armor (the first German tank to do so) an excellent high velocity 76.2mm gun, wide tracks (for better cross country mobility), etc. I feel the same way about the Panther as 3rdtimesacharm does about the Corsair & B does about the FW 190. ORGASMIC! :sly:

The Panther (along with the Tiger) is one of the tanks B was talking about when he mentioned getting behind the Tank to knock it out. My dad actually drove a couple of Shermans on reconnaissance missions (usually he drove a Bren Gun carrier, also known as a Universal carrier) & was instructed to "get the hell outta there" if he saw a Tiger or Panther. The story goes that the average loss ratio was 3-4 Shermans to knock out 1 Tiger, 2 Shermans to draw the attention of the Tiger, 1 to attack it from the side & 1 to hit it from behind. My dad didn't like the Sherman much, he said they called it "The Ronson" because of it's gasoline engine (most main battle tanks had diesel engines) & the strange habit of washing the inside of the tank with gasoline doused rags to remove the oil & grime. This all made the Sherman go up like a torch when hit by a German high velocity gun such as the 76.2mm or the 88mm. I also talked to a friend of my dads who was a Canadian Army Sherman driver in WWII, he was blinded when his Sherman was knocked out by a frontal shot from an 88mm. The shot went right through the Sherman & blew the motor out of the back, the ammo cooked off, the fuel ignited & Roland was the only one that made it out alive. They thought even he was dead until they noticed him flickering what was left of his eyelids.

My dad told me a great story involving a Panther tank, he wrecked a brand new Bren Carrier (he wrecked several during the course of the war) that he'd just picked up from the replacement depot. He was flying down a road (he was a mechanic so he always took the governor off his carriers) & there was a column of Shermans coming the other way with a knocked out Panther on the other side of the road lying half in a ditch. He tried to get between one of the Shermans & the Panther while still going full throttle but the gap was too small & he got jammed between the Sherman & the Panther & wrecked the carrier & got knocked out when the carrier came to a sudden stop & he hit the dash. When he came to he had to walk back to the depot & explain to them how he'd wrecked a brand new carrier within about 10 minutes of picking it up & could he please have another one!!

  6. Would like to know more about slotting the strut mounts...

Yea not sure about the slotting myself or how to do it

Rocky 2 had a thread on the subject, if you want to get flamed you can search for it or if I can get my fat arse away from the TV I'll try to find it for ya.

  7. Oooooops! We have kinda hijacked the thread from DVW :hide:

    Back to topic.........

I wonder how much those guns are worth although I would think they'd put them in a museum as there can't be many working .303 Browning machine guns left in the world. Here's an interesting article about the Spitfires gun set ups & how they affected the wing design........ http://www.historyofwar.org/articles/weapons_spitfire_wings.html

Here's the story behind the plane & it's guns, the pilot was an American from Nebraska!!! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2060047/Built-Guns-Spitfire-buried-peat-bog-70-years-time.html

  8. NE way, nice to see everyone getting along... :handlebars: That is why I come here...

This is a great forum, most others have people yelling at each other & being really nasty. It gets heated here at times (usually about mods & mechanical stuff) but nobody goes OTT & people are willing to listen to other opinions instead of being hateful. So, do decent people drive Pathy's or does driving a Pathy make you a decent person? :D
