Rekeying Nissan locks is actually super easy once you do it a few times. Super handy skill to have ! I've done every lock on my truck now, except the ignition which is the only thing i had a key for when i bought it. Lol

A few questions and concerns of my old WD21
Nefarious replied to medicbaldwin's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Find the JGC upcountry model springs. They are the stiffest and give the most lift. I use energy suspension poly bushes, they have been great for years now. Still no squeeks -
It's true. Best bang for buck for front end feel. Well, that and the poly sway bar kit

Went and pulled some parts off a part out of a really well maintained 92. -distributor -new ngk spark plug wires -both rear e brake cables for the disc brake models in awesome shape -rear floor mats -front cowls -steering box with zero play and small taper for 2wd steering swap. All for 90 bucks. It's like christmas for me and my girls pathys today!

Your 88 will fly with the mpfi and 3.3. Really makes these trucks come alive. People are regularly astounded how quick my 93 is considering its lifted 7" running 33x12.5 tires on 15x10 steel rims and an auto trans and it still rips faster than just about any other truck from a comparable year except the v8 JGC. I do also have Obx headers, full 2.5" exhaust with high flow cat and muffler and a cone air filter, so those mods do help a fair amount but its still significantly faster than stock and thats including my lift and oversize tires.

Yeah , I would really suggest grabbing the 3.0 upper intake manifold, air box, ecu, and harness. Then use the heads/block/lower manifold on the vg33.
-
I would just convert to mpfi at the same time... you get a boost in power, boost in torque, higher mpg, better reliability.... pretty much win win...

Same issue on my girlfriends pathfinder. Junkyard starter and its fine now. Once they fill up with oil they lose electrical contacts inside the starter. You can rebuild them pretty cost effectively, but if u need your truck quickly I would just swap out to another oem one.

I've done the swap twice now. Once in my truck using the whole vg33 including accessories out of a r50 pathfinder, and once on my ladys truck using Mr510s adapter. Find a clean vg33 and use the whole thing. Best I can recommend. The vg33 has better flowing heads and thicker exhaust studs. It is a much better design overall. If you find a whole vg33 with accessories from a frontier/xterra then it will swap right over. I used an r50 engine and accessories so I welded up custom low clearance accessory mounts and bent the stock lines to work. The vg34 is a lot of work and $$ if u don't have your own machine shop but its not just .1 L displacement increase, its also a significant compression ratio increase which is the main reason it makes over 200hp. My plan is forced induction personally though, its more efficient to setup a turbo on an engine and requires little to no internal engine work. These motors are built for boost. Once I finish the turbo setup on my 240sx, I'm going to be setting up a rear mount turbo on my pathfinder. The vg33e with vg30e cams and a small turbo will walk all over a vg34 and have much better gas mileage as well. Depends which route you want to go. Either way will run you some money but dropping in a vg33 as it sits is not a huge feat . From there its all peripherals to run a turbo setup. Just my opiniin, but its the direction I'm going.

Yeah, stock or aftermarket. Either way its a really nice ride quality improvement. I use the factory one myself and it holds up to my 33x12.5 tires nicely. The aftermarket one is probably even better.

I think I'm going to move to the maxima fan , I'm using an Altima fan right now and it has been working great up until I started towing with my path. It keeps it at half or less on the gauge but I just don't like the fluctuation while towing so its time to upgrade! The altima fan will make its way into my 240sx now I think

I prefer the damper for on and off road. It just makes the steering feel nicer, especially before I did the 2wd swap. The stock bump steer sucked.

Loaded up the girlfriends path from front to back with all our stuff and moved to our new place in Campbell river. Be prepared for some epic wheeling photos once we get settled in here. The terrain is amazing, in the middle of the mountains on Vancouver island.

Just picked up a tru cool 18 000 gvw aux stacked plate trans cooler. Low pressure drop model with full install kit for 65$ new. Rated for a 3/4 ton turbo diesel pulling a camper so I figure it should be good for my vg33e swapped 93 towing a 4x10 box trailer for the move.

2.5" exhaust is fine. I run Obx headers/2.5" exhaust and my truck has tons of power. I would check spark plug gap, check engine grounds (all of them!), check all electrical connectors for corrosion or loose pins, clean the maf sensor (I use sensorclean maf spray, works wonders), replace the o2 sensor with a new NGK sensor, and run some redline s1 or seafoam in your fuel for a tank. Make sure the fuel filter and air filter are clean. I use 199x 300zx twin turbo fuel filter. It's cheap and its huge and it fits right in place of the stock one. Also check vacuum lines for leaks or cracked hoses. Take care of those and I am willing to bet it will run much better, if it still doesn't have enough power....well.... vg33 swap time! Lol

Installed an 8 inch drop hitch to hook up a moving trailer to my rig.4 days and counting

The torsion bars are the long ones that go from the lower control arm all the way back about half way down the truck.

Custom Tuning a Pathfinder ECU, the Project begins.
Nefarious replied to Nefarious's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Just an update, work has finally been slowing down enough for me to have time to work on other projects. I will be working on the custom ecu tuning again after next week. I have nearly all the hardware to get started and I'm just waiting on my 8-bit eprom emulator to show up and I will begin the process. Will keep posted as updates arrive. I'm getting excited to see what this truck will do! -
Almost finished patching up the frame. Managed to stop drill the cracks ahead of where they end and then welded them up, then I boxed in the area on the outside and bottom of the frame where it was weak. Now at least it will last me another couple years until I find a nice mint donor vehicle for my suspension and drivetrain.
-
I agree, if its sagging down and the shock is compressed then you probably have a torsion bar or torsion bar mount issue. My issue had nothing to do with the vehicle height. Crawl under there and check where the torsion bar mounts join the frame and crossmember. I'd bet there's something awry down there...

how to run codes for the auto transmission?
Nefarious replied to fearkobe's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Good to know the HD trans does it too... I'm convinced to go manual on my new wd21... I'm sick of the sloppy lazy shifting. -
Sad news today, found some nasty frame rust on one side in the rear. It was hidden under the previous owners undercoating job. To fix properly (to my standards) I would have to take the body off and pull the axle and panhard mount, rebuild the lower section for about 16" (top and inside of frame is fine, bottom and outside are crap), but just don't have the time. So I plated the frame for the time being so its strong and safe but I'm now looking for a new donor pathy. Thinking of finding a clean 2 door or maybe another 4 door if its super clean and this time I'm getting a sunroof!! Then the swap project will begin... I'll start a thread for it, I will be swapping over full vg33e swap, 6-7" lift, rear disc brake/lsd axle, stereo, etc and starting a new build. Sad day for me but now I get to look for a new vehicle which is always fun

Nefarious replied to fearkobe's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Mine takes a while to shift from second to third, always winds out second like a power mode shift, the rest are normal. I'm going to do this too.. -
In short, yes. Lol. That's why I'm waiting for the move to be over.. Basically, easiest way for me is to remove the torsion bars, remove front shocks, then u can bend the cvs out of your way, then drop the front differential. Then u need to press/burn the bushings out and then fit the new drop Bushings in the correct places. In my opinion though, its totally worth it. 5/8-3/4" drop of the front diff really helps the cv angles from what I've seen and they aren't expensive. Just a lot of work..
