Burning coolant is all white, burning oil is blueish-white, and burning excess fuel(running rich) is black. Your problem could be a leaking injector, bad MAF sensor/corroded wiring in the TBI, missing/broken/corroded ground wire on the distributor, fouled spark plugs from a tank of bad gas, bad o2 sensor...really couldn't say until the codes come out and you start tearing into it.

What kind of noises? You say you've been hearing noises, but you didn't say anything other than that. Why do you think you might need to "open it up"??

There's no chip in particular to pull or replace in a Pathfinder because it's all hardwired and soldered to the mobo in the Nissan ECU. Just a different way to do it...takes special equipment and a tried-and-true map of what works to upgrade it. If you had all the stuff to hook up to it yourself, you could try modifying the base map of the ECU, but I really don't know how that would work out. You might end up with a ECU that doesn't work at all anymore.

Slightly illegal and slightly bad idea, I'd say. People don't usually abandon JGC's with offroad equipment on them. People who steal them might, though. Do you want to be blamed for stealing the car in the first place if a cop finds you picking parts off it?

Yeah, but when regearing costs you as much as a whole replacement axle for a domestic rig, it tends to make a person want to do other things first.

Why did an alternator cost you $700??? And no, you can't waterproof an alternator, they generate a lot of heat internally and need to be air-cooled. Clean water won't do anything to an alternator, but dirty water and mud will help the bearings die prematurely.

That's about right. They start at $100 and go up from there.

I don't think it's the motor you need, I think it's the wiper controller box that goes with it.

Rami, your O2 sensor is probably in need of being replaced. Just a heads up. They're not cheap, though. Mine was $130 from the dealer.

You'd have to heat treat alu sliders after welding them. Welding alu renders it dead soft again. Steel doesn't do that.

The voltage regulator is a fairly small little IC chip type thing and I think it's got a plastic cover. I'm still looking for the pics.

I found one Nissan part number for the voltage regulator, but I dunno if this is the exact number needed. 24866-54A00

I haven't found any specific part numbers listed, but I KNOW there used to be a fix-it How-To page on the web somewhere with pics. I just can't find it right now. Call or visit your local Nissan dealer and see if you can't get the part number looked up. Apparently it's a real easy fix if you can use a Philips screwdriver. I'll add this to the sticky post on Common Problems.
