i believe you are refering to 'backlash'. you need some, but not too much. and the pinion shaft has shims not a crush sleeve.

no, gl-5 contains sulfur, a lubrication additive. Our syncro's are made with brass and/or bronze, sulfur corrodes and eats away at bronze.
