A junk rush job, yes, and it will also need to be completly redone in a year or two.
-
Just keep truckin along on it and don't give up, thats what I always think.

I know for a fact that for the frame, if it needs any patching, you'll need thicker than sheet metal. But for the body it would probably depend on the extent of the rust to consider removing the body off the frame. I've seen replacement fenders and stuff on ebay for pathfinders for relativly cheap, like 40-50 bucks IIRC. I know i'll be buying one.

I didn't know you could put a cooler on a 5 speed, something i should look into
-
Well you've basically described my truck, except my body rust isn't that bad but my frame is probably MUCH worse. As to whether you should trash it or not really depends on how much you want to spend, and of course, how much the truck means to you. In my case, money is no option, but i have none anyways. About your trans, from what you describe your driving a 5 speed. I know that in our r50 pathfinder if you shift into reverse if the truck is moving at all, it grinds a bit. But I was told that reverse gears don't have synchros. Also ours grinds if you shift into 4th at to high an rpm (3200+). We had the truck brought to the dealer, and they said nothing was wrong but if you drive normally, i.e. not like a race car driver like i sometimes do, you should be fine. Changing the tranny oil helped too.

When I first saw this thread I thought it read alternate to r50, and I was gunna say wd21. Too tired.

What's The Single Largest Inherent Flaw In A Wd21 Pathfinder?

But then account for all the crap most people leave in them.......tools and the like, I heard someone around here say 4200 once. -
It does look good, but probably wouldn't in my 93 with the wood grain I have. Oh and you need some gas dude
-
Or you could take them off and quit smoking
-
Yeah I try not to allow the engine to go over 3000 rpm, which means I can only go up to about 110 km/h which is roughly 68 miles an hour. Although i'm not proud of this, I've had it up to about 100mph or 160kmh. Boy did that ever chew up 1/4 tank fast. If you drive so that the rpms are under 3k, you'll probably see an increase. I did.

no leaks with 20w50 in the summer and 10w40 in the winter in my 93. Dads 2000 is running 5w50 mobil 1 supersyn that we just put in at 125k, and its running like a top.

87 Pathfinder In Petersons 4 Wheel Drive Magazine
adamzan replied to unccpathfinder's topic in General Forums
I see lots of people that think they do everyday!! -
Yeah I have power locks. I'd like to install a keyless system when shes back up and running!

None of that miracle gas saving BS works, plain and simple. But I'd like a flux capacitor, so I'd have a reason to bring my pathy up to 88mph again

What's The Single Largest Inherent Flaw In A Wd21 Pathfinder?
adamzan replied to 88pathoffroad's topic in General Forums
i said frame, as thats the only thing thats wrong with mine, it has enough power, its not a race car, I found it quite more peppy than our r50 and better on gas!!1. And my auto tranny has 215k miles and no troubles. You should add electrical issues, As I have one of those as well -
let us know what you find, my 93 has the same problem. But at least this way it forces me to open the doors for ladies!!
-
at least nissan is protecting us from the hills have eyes Yeah, and I hate how you'll get 100kms and the gauge says its still full, then it drops to 3/4 after 30 more clicks, and then it'll go to half real fast, and stay there for a while. I've never run it with the light on for long. But at half, it costs 28 dollars to fill at 95 cent a litre give or take. And the most I've ever put in from empty is about 60 bucks. Damn r50 gas gauge, I wish it was more like my wd21 gauge :tonguefinger:

As long as there aren't crossmembers falling off the frame, the fix shouldn't bet that much.
-
Wow i usually never get any support on that comment, even though I know its true!
-
If you can get it even cheaper, go for it. Even if the frame has some rot, you can get it fixed, like I am in the process of doing. Also, has it been sitting for a while? Because mine will cough, sputter and have no power but not stall as well. After a while of running its fine. Make sure to ask the owner if it makes any clunking noises in the rear, and take a hammer and screwdriver with you, one or two hits and you'll know how rotted it is.

Heres a simple one that kept my mothers 89 mazda 929 from starting. The battery terminals were dirty, they didn't look it, but after a quick go with a wire brush, it was good to go again.
-
Maybe its time to bite the bullet and get one from nissan, sometimes there are junkyards that have parts already pulled and tested, I know theres one around here, but they hardly have any pathy parts.
-
Maybe that story is complete BS, I've seen that kind of crapola before.
-
Thats the exact color my rig USED to be, before it sat under a tree for a few months.
-
Supposedly you can, but I change it at 10,000kms. Using mobil 1 supersyn 5w50 and a fram tough guard filter.
