ya, and I'd pick up a remote transmission filter kit from summit for 30 bucks to help out a bit too. The screen in the nissan tranny is lame and doesn't do much to prevent varnishing.
-
you rip it all out. You have to leave the belt. My fan clutch took some persuasion to remove. You could leave the shroud and just stick a fan in the middle there. I bought a wiring kit that came with the sensors and everything for the fans.
-
That guy isn't completely correct...my fan only draws 20 amps and the only fan I can think of that draws 60 is the 4000 cfm taurus fan. And he isn't considering the loss of a 10lbs of weight from the rotating mass of the engine. People bash underdrive pullies too, but I picked up 8hp to the wheels with my aluminum lightweight (and smaller) crank pulley. I can guarantee you the engine wasn't making any more hp, I was just losing less of it. Different car though.
-
Just to add, if you have the built into radiator cooler it actually warms the tranny oil on cold days, so it should never be too cool even with the extra cooler.
-
well, you could get some cheap through radiator fan mounts and not fabricate anything. I'm making a fiberglass shroud to hold my fans though....for when july comes again. haha.
-
ya, if you haven't gotten off yer lazy butt and ripped out the stock fan...do it already! It's amazing. I now a have a really quiet ride that doesn't struggle to get up the hill to my house anymore. It's not some huge hp gain, it just doesn't struggle as much with hills etc. I'm in the middle of fiberglassing a shroud for a pair of fans to throw on there. Even sitting in traffic etc the truck hasn't come close to going past the 1/2 mark on the guage with no fans at all....
-
at least the factory one... haha. Honestly, I bet it would last significantly longer with a screw-on tranny filter inline with a big cooler. Either way, the more power you add, the more heat and strain on the clutch packs etc. I vote 5spd.
-
I dunno. All of the people I know who have broken the 200hp mark on the 3.3 with cams or SC blew their auto.
-
I just go wheelin with friends that have cool winches. The irony is I haven't gotten stuck....YET haha. At least that way I can put my 800 bucks towards something else. A 300 dolla winch doesn't sound like a bad idea though.
-
ya, they should have a nissan automatic tranny potential chart. It should be like- 160hp=160,000 miles 200hp=60,000 miles 250hp= 2 weeks
-
some parts are yes. Some of the 300zx guys will actually take the VG33 block, VG33 intake manifold, throw in forged internals, throw on their head, and boost the living piss out of it.
-
The VG33 has a lot of potential. There are a few high hp ones out there. The problem is, most of the people around here who do stuff to them blow up their tranny or have something else go wrong. It's rarely the engine itself. And 99.9% of the engine problems experienced were installer error. ie...poor 98silver's cams getting installed by a mechanic who didn't care to check nissan specs before doing the job.

sometimes it can be hard to enjoy the first time. It just takes a little practice and you'll be able to find the plug quickly.
-
I'll trade you my 4.3's for your 4.6's....haha.
-
Well, his version was the pathy didn't "stop fast enough" and hit some big huge bump offroad and landed bumper first on the other side.
-
ya speedracer...tell them what you did. lol.
-
I didn't order them. They say it's 4-6 weeks.
-
how is it on the hwy? I'm just wondering if there is any venturi action working against you at higher speeds sucking the air back up the intake and making the motor work harder. Otherwise I think you'll be wet long before your engine dies. awesome.

Just to make sure that someone can take advantage of this, General Spring was my contact for the 4 inch springs. They will make whatever you want for about the same price as AC springs. (makes you wonder where AC gets them...) Their number is 913-829-0619. Web site is www.generalspringkc.com Don't everyone call them and annoy them. They have all of the pathfinder specs on hand and can make whatever you want. Have fun. Come up with something cool.

fuel filter, burning coolant, leaking injector, coolant temp sensor can affect that, etc. Is it bucking at all? If you can get a voltmeter on the tps wires you can measure voltage across the range. It's a lot easier to test with a nice obd2 scanner though... Usually just a range from 0-5 volts. You can check and see if it is consistant across the range of the pedal.

you can regrind any pair of cams for about 200 bucks if you have the specs. But with a regrind, you'll have to work a little with shims/rockers to get it right. A cam ground from a blank usually works better. Having said that...I had a set of regrinds in my other car for a pretty long time. The hydraulic lifters took out most of the troubles, but it wasn't a roller rocker style head either. Headers can be done easily if you're willing to replace your exhaust. Check out the xterra ones...they're pretty nice. (SLR) They told me they fit the R50 just fine. You just need to throw in your own cats etc. [/hijack]

I have the iridiums in mine...so far so good. I have typically been unimpressed with platinum plugs. With the exception of the plugs that come in the subaru 2.5 liter. For some reason those ones last forever.
-
does she put out a lot? If not, put it on anyway.
-
well, I bought this thing super cheap knowing that it needed body work. So I can do the 99.5 conversion, fix the dents elsewhere, replace the interior, paint the whole thing, and still not have paid as much as a regular 98. I like to buy fixer uppers.
-
Well, I need two new bumpers, and a fender. I was thinking, while I was at it I might as well get the other fender, headlights, and hood and get them from a 99.5 R50. To me this would make my ride a little better lookin. Will this stuff just hook right up or will I need to grab the bumper supports etc etc to get this going?
