You can't just hook up something like cams and expect the factory computer to figure it out. On my other car I had to use a safc to get the dumb thing to run right with cams. I think around 18 degrees advance and pulling out a lot of fuel made it run wonderfully. In fact, I didn't even gain power until it was tuned. The final AFR was in the mid 13's. On the pathy I'd still shoot for 12.5 AFR just because it's a SOHC and you might tow with it or something. pm me if you want some help getting those cams tuned. (oh ya, cams+automatic is an awful combo.) Oh ya, if the belt was a tooth off you'd think it wouldn't even start...

Ok, I was putting my new spindle on my R50 this morning and I realized...I don't know which way the copper washer goes into the spindle. (outer axle) Does the dish point out towards the wheel or in towards the trans? Same question with the axle retaining nut. Small edge out or in.
-
why not just have your relay switched by the factory power wire to the coil.... that way you won't get a SES light and it will turn on and off like it supposed to. If you REALLY want a beefy spark you can pick up a megasquirt and convert to a DIS system.

My personal experience has been that flowmasters sound nice, but don't flow as well as others. And they rust fast out here in UT. I'd get something stainless like borla or magnaflow. Both sound nice and flow quite well.

Ya, I replaced everything including the spindle. Problem is...the junkyard spindle has a bad needle bearing.
-
ya, I tried to pack a ton of grease in there. It still sounds like I just took a drive through some sand dunes though. haha.
-
Ok, I'm trying to get the little needle bearing out of the end of the spindle/knuckle. The one that the CV shaft rides in. Since the spindle is so long I can't knock it out, so it looks like it has to be pulled. Any tips on getting this thing out?

I had midas put a muffler on my saturn for 120 bucks. It's a pos muffler though. Rusted out in a couple years. They replaced it under warranty, but I'm still not impressed.
-
Well, this is a very distant idea...but perhaps you could try coating the gasket with oil or RTV to make a tight seal to keep the dust out.
-
ok, so I'm not finding anything cut and dry with the search option here. I know the jeep guys like to find ford tauruses at the junkyard and swipe the fan out of them. Anything easy to bolt up for the pathy? Just checkin before I snag some slim puller fans on ebay or something.

ya, these are for cosmetic repair on a 96 that I'm going to try to pick up too. Car hit it and smashed it up.
-
yup...they're brand new and lookin good. I think I may need a new axle and nut on that side. The nut from the other side doesn't thread very well on it either.
-
cool. Won't bother then. Finding parts for these things is a real pita.
-
Well, so far my biggest hurdle with this path is finding parts. Junkyards seem to think I have a rare vehicle or something... I can probably get a drivetrain from japan for not too much money. With gas going up it's tempting to try the turbo diesel. Anyway, money wise I can put in a motor and still be under 6k bucks including the price of the car. I bought a real pos to build. Anyone know if nissan changed the bolt pattern on the trannies? EDIT...I love driving a manual trans, but this car has to be auto so my wife can drive it every once in a while. haha.
-
I've got a few swaps under my belt already. I think this biggest pita was a 5spd to automatic conversion....
-
Well, before I get too far into the turbo planning process...my VG33 is a little tired at 150k miles. Has anyone actually done a VQ35 swap? I'm assuming it would need a complete wire harness, pcm, and trans to go with it. Can anyone verify this?

Did nissan change the oem nerf bar between 94 and 96? I've got another 96 pathy that has a smashed nerf bar on one side and I found another for sale on craigs list with no pic.
-
The sell a can of stop squeel at most parts stores. Who knows if it's any good though...

ok, there's no way to do a looser torque rating and have the snap ring fit. I think there's something wrong with the axle nut. The other side will go on and off with ease. The passenger side needs an impact just to get the stupid thing on. It's not cross threaded either. I think I may have to replace the cv axle just to get one with good thread on it. I'll know for sure after I try the nut from the driver side hub
-
What all comes with the warn locking hubs? Do they come with a new axle retaining nut or just replace the little drive flange thing that locks the hub to the axle.
-
ok, I got my hubs in. I tried to hand pack the bearings since my grease gun wasn't getting along with my packer tool. I squished what grease I could into them. Is it normal for the hub to grab the axle with just the retaining nut torqued on? I believe I did it to 50ft ft lbs and it grabs the axle hard. I would think it should spin freely. This is with the little drive flange thing with a screw in it not installed. Anyway, I can't turn it with one wheel on the ground... I would loosen the retaining nut but then I wouldn't be able to get the snap ring on.
-
OK, I hate the factory hubs. For some reason I had a REALLY hard time getting the passenger side retaining nut to thread. The bearings and races were pretty simple with a punch and bearing hammer thing I've got. The driver side retaining nut just glides through the thread, but the passenger side I had to use my impact wrench to thread. I'm assuming the warn kit doesn't replace that nut does it... Either way I am not impressed with the factory "drive flange"
-
dirty rotors? Mine would squeek after a little mud got on them.
-
I got it off..I had to use a punch and go around and around and around. Kinda sucked. Now I just need to get the new bearings in.
-
ok, I'm trying to replace my wheel bearings in my 98 pathy. I've removed the caliper, cap thing, lock washer, removed the little lock screw so now it spins freely, but now I can't get that funky threaded thing off. It has two notches to turn it with. I've pounded on it for a while with a hammer and punch and it's not turning. Any ideas?
