  1. So you're talking about mounting the rock sliders with the tube facing downwards (kind of like a step rail thing?). That seems pretty cool....yeah, I'd say if you're not seeing rocks, ruts, or anything that can really whack the hell out of your rocker panels...then go for it...looks pretty cool to me Just make sure not to take it into any sizeable rock gardens.....EVER! You'd be pretty sorry you mounted 'em that way then
  2. Like others have said...PB is a Godsend...I got my carrier off a truck headed for the junk yard, and I'm sure it sat for a while. When I first got it...I had to whack the hell out of the bottom hinge with a rubber mallet just to get it to line up right so I could install it. I PB'd the hell out of the lower hinge for about 3 weeks afterwards (leaving it closed as much as possible, but still opening it after every lube up to get it worked in)...and now it's smooth as goose sh*t About once a week, I hit it with PB just for the hell of it so that I can be sure it's never going to get that way again.
  3. 4" backspacing won't put THAT much stress on the bearings or steering...the real killer is when you look at the width of the tire you're putting on...10.50 you're fine, 11.50 is OK...it's when you hit 12.50 wide tires and beyond that you start to really stress the hell out of your steering, shafts, and well, bearings should be repacked often (especially if you wheel it often...ideally after every trip, but that can be a pain in the ass...so about every 5k miles should suffice). 4.75" bs is fine for what you're doing, as I believe that's just about stock anyways (I think it's 5" bs if I remember correctly)...good luck with it all.....and repack those bearings anyways
  4. My guess would be the shocks as well...if you think about it...when you start and the rear "squats", you're putting the weight of the truck on the rear shocks. The slop you feel is the truck doing exactly what 88 said happens when the shocks are shot. The rear is bouncing a few times from the initial take off and you're feeling the effects. When I first bought my Pathy (at 149k miles) it had the original shocks on it, and it did the same thing. I put in the Ranchos and it was gone...the rear felt so much more solid and smooth, and no more wandering or slop on the roads from the rear. The reason it goes away the faster you go is because the weight is distributed evenly when you're at cruising speed, so you won't feel the slop in the rear end as badly as when you start and transfer the weight to the rear of the truck.
  5. CrazzyMax...that's awesome...do you have any specs/measurements on that set up you did? I'd love to do something like that in the back of my Pathy...if you don't mind sharing, I would really appreciate it, as I'm sure others would as well.
  6. I totally agree with you...I always loved that rear door handle design that Nissan did...and you're right...it did start with the WD21 So many Xterra owners forget that the Pathfinder came first, and the R&D guys molded a lot of what the Xterra would become after the 1st Generation Pathfinder.
  7. Get yourself a spare set and send 'em off to www.smokinlights.net I've used this guy before on my Grand Prix GTP...and he does amazing work...it's good to have spare set to send to him since you probably don't want downtime on your truck....he can do blocks of it like you've set up with the tape...or the whole thing if you want.
  8. The steering could have been better...but I've gotta say, when you look at the 1st Generation tie rod adjusters compared to a lot of other trucks...they're pretty damn beefy....power mirrors, locks, windows? What are these strange things you people speak of? Other than that...it is what it is...at least mine anyways (a basic SUV that's a damn good wheeler)...I'm not going to complain about much...and like you said, the cupholder issue is easy to solve when you've got the 5 speed...I'd would have liked height adjustment on the seats though, and more support in the seats too (side support)...sometimes getting tossed around on the trails I can do without, and this isn't the kind of truck I want to put a five point harness in......yet.

    Whaam

Sorry to hear about your accident....if you want, email it to me, and I'll host it and post it for you. Good luck in your hunt for a replacement truck...yeah, the QX4 is a nice truck for sure I live right off a neighborhood street that is 45mph....but hey, whatever, that's not the point....the point is, you're OK, and the Pathfinder made sure that you walked away from an accident...a 50mph accident is not minor, I don't care what you're driving...good news that you're OK. The Google word of the day is "Tact"
  10. You can do a search on Google for Tuffy Security Consoles...a plethora of info .....I just wanted yet another chance to use the word "plethora"
  11. sly Awesome! Richard...I guess you went ahead and did the ECU relocation after all then...good times!
  12. I personally would like to keep my porn addiction secret from my wife
  13. I'd like to see it back up and running again too....it's the first Pathfinder forum I had found when I first bought my Pathfinder (and funny enough, the same forums where I said "I'm not going to mod my Pathy..just want to keep it stock"...and that was in January...guess I threw those notions out the window :o ). Hope you can get it working again Aaron...I enjoyed those forums. Good luck on the repair of it. I know that has to suck...
  14. Which model were you looking at that you think would work? I've been considering that too, as I had Tuffy consoles in both of my TJs previously, and I'm absolutely sold on those things...one of the best investments I had made for those Jeeps. The center consoles in these trucks are just a tick above worthless...so it would be good to get something solid there.
  15. I'm running 15X8's with 4" of Backspacing...stick out about an inch past the fenders with 32X11.50's on them....they seem to do just fine...no rubbing when flexed, and no problems.
  16. Thanks...it had dawned on me to finally break down and buy a test light today...too dark now to work on it, but I shall get it done tomorrow. It should all work out fine. The only other thing I was considering was ground it right to the tire carrier....thoughts on that? I know it might not work...but was just wondering. Thanks again Dave.
  17. You're damn right about the GM cars being a bitch to get to as far as the sixth plug...on my old W-Body...I was about to set fire to the car I was so pissed about the location of that damn plug pssd
  18. There isn't anything I DON'T like about my Pathy at the moment...except maybe that it could have a better cupholder set up But if that's the only thing I can complain about...it's not a big deal...I've added a different cupholder anyways...and I'm completely happy with the truck....it's a hell of a wheeling rig too...I can't say I've been stuck yet, except for driver error (not enough momentum to get up over a certain obstacle....but I wasn't hard enough on the skinny pedal...so I'm all to blame for that one ) I too like the seatbelt clips in the rear, the fact that the seats recline, and the fact that you don't have to remove the lower part of the backseats to put the seats flat down (like you have to in an Xterra...had an '03 X as well in the past)...and yes, all the seats are comfortable, and two adults can fit comfortably in the back with little or no complaint after a long drive.
  19. OK, long story short...I bought a 3" round brake light to put in the middle of my spare tire for a third brake light...I'm trying to figure out which wires in the tail light harness to hook into, so that when I step on my brakes...the tail lights light up, plus this new round brake light I bought. The instructions on the new light are pretty vague. I've got it mounted and there's a red and a black wire coming out of the new round brakelight. I know the black is ground, and the red is the power wire....I took the light bulb housing out of the tail light, and there's like a brown, black, and green wire going into that housing. Any help would be appreciated...thanks Dave.
  20. Yeah, but Chrome Doesn't Get You Home -bounce-
  21. I have mine now wedged between the center console and the passenger seat. Does fine when off road, I can still reach it, and it makes it very easy to unhook and hook it back up when I need to take it out of the truck. The mic I have hanging in the blank plate I have above the AC controls (under the middle right vent to the right of the rear defrost button)...Since I have no power options in the truck, I'm assuming on other Pathys, there's some sort of switch in that spot, but not on mine I used to have it in the stereo spot underneath my aftermarket head unit, but put the factory cubby box back in there underneath the head unit now to hold small stuff....so to the current position it went.
  22. Well I knew that I was lacking in mileage due to lift, added weight, etc...sometimes it's just really bad though...I know I'm due for a spark plug change (just been putting it off because I hate dealing with it...not that it's all that difficult, but still), and the filter could probably use a cleaning as well. Thanks!
