I still don't understand how the 88 has a VG30E while the 93 has a VG30i. Something isn't right here.
-
I thought it looked like a resonator as well but I have seen actual mufflers like that too. If it's just a resonator then you can definitely just put a pipe and forget the resonator. Make sure the pipe is mandrel bent and not crush bent garbage.

3" body lift bumper bracket pic question.
Tungsten replied to wd21overland's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
As with all vehicles, there are many engineers with different views and each different one gets to work on a different piece of the vehicle. If that piece will be properly engineered or not depends on the engineer doing it. The bumper engineering just seems to have been handed over to an idiot. -
See my thread ^ above for the wiring diagram. The relays complete the circuit with the battery when they are activated by the switch and the relays take power from one of the old headlight connectors. There is no reason to do anything with the factory fog light circuit as that is already relayed.

Aftermarket units don't even last a year for me. The best thing to do for you is to get that factory unit bolted back up. You can drive around with no muffler and that will have no negative effects on the engine.
-
That's right.
-
That is nice! Make sure you have a good enough axle hop so that the axle doesn't flex into the pipe. Also when routing the pipe watch out for that gas tank, the clearance there is tight.
-
Your mod would actually work well with the way I re-routed the exhaust. PM me for pictures if you are interested in the design. Old picture, this is where I put the muffler: You got me thinking on doing the same thing to those upper links. Now I wonder why Nissan did not build it like that. I guess they weren't really anticipating on that much flex.

If you have an engine with super dirty oil that causes the oil pump to fail you may as well replace the engine.

Clanking noise..front passenger wheel..
Tungsten replied to NissanNismoZ's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Here are some possibilities: A bolt may have backed out of somewhere. A pad has worn down way too much. Something got into the brake pad. The automatic hub locker is doing something funny. The wheel bearings need to be tightened and/or repacked. -
So the A/C lines are ran the way they always used to be? That's very good then! How did you run the exhaust? Any custom pipe building and bending?
-
You can try crimping it all together with one of those BNC connector sleeves.
-
How does a VG oil pump fail? Does it stop pumping oil? I don't think they commonly fail on VG engines. That's Toyota's problem, they blow to pieces on some of their engines.
-
Are you sure you have the i and the E not mixed up?
-
Not bad. What are the advantages of using equal length upper and lower links? Any disadvantages?
-
There is a fusible link thingy that plugs in right after the positive terminal. If yours was melted for some reason then you will have a mess of wires.

There are many different 4x4 systems and they are all set up differently. I know all about locking differentials and center differentials and all that. How a 4x4 system responds to power really depends on how it's set up. I think you cleared it up for me now though. I also think it's in 2x4 instead of 4x4 looking at how much it's fishtailing. I'm now thinking that he uses 2wd on the dunes because the sand gets thrown out into the back instead of going under the body when the tires spin. Also, properly tuned and well maintained stock VG engines do not work very hard at all. A turbo may increase the efficiency but only slightly. The project was definitely done for more power. -
Your point is invalid in this thread. You put the spacer on a VG not a VQ. That's a completely different engine. Your Z also does not have a Pathfinder intake plenum with longer runners.

I just like to be short and concise in how I write things. If you meet me you will know why. I don't care for being nice or rude as long as it doesn't violate any forum guidelines. -
Proper oil for breaking in the lifters would be good. However, do not use "break in oil" with hydraulic lifters. It's way too abrasive for them. FYI: Newer engines do not even come with break in oil from the factory.
-
Just use fully synthetic oil. It's full of every kind of additive and the molecules are small and evenly sized. I am pretty sure synthetic oil will get inside those lifters faster than regular oil would. That is correct. The FSM calls for soaking the lifters in the UPRIGHT position submerged in oil. You need to rev up the engine so that the oil pressure increases for the lifters to break in.

Pathfinders are heavier than 300ZX cars and they are much harder to push against the wind. I can imagine how fast a twin turbo Pathfinder would go through the fuel tank when at full throttle. He said the fuel pump runs out of capacity after 9 PSI of boost. The reason I wanted to know if he used 2wd or 4wd is because I wanted to see how the 4 wheel drive system handles boost. I did see the 2 wheel drive videos already and they did look just like this one. Does using the 4x4 make a difference in the sand with front open differentials? There was no comment that said what it was in this video. Why is there a new thread too? -
Aside from swapping the accessories over and modifying the old water pump to fit up to the newer oil pump there are 2 things you can do: Re-use the TBI setup off the old VG30i so you don't have to swap the ECU. Find a VG30E ECU and MAF sensor and hook that up with the MFI setup. I don't know what years they are for your country but you need to find a VG30E ECU that supports the older smaller oxygen sensor. If you find a newer ECU then you will need to replace the midpipe that holds the oxygen sensor or drill for a bigger bung. You can re-use the R50 ECU but that is more wiring than it is worth. If you do plan on switching to MFI then don't forget to grab a VG30E MAF sensor. If you don't want to modify the water pump you can fit a VG30ET oil pump which should work with the old style water pump. However the VG33E oil pump is still better so it might be worth to mod the original water pump.

If you want to use a magnet make sure it has a stainless or aluminum cap on one end to prevent the magnet from sticking everywhere. Also don't use those telescoping things, they break too easy. I recommend putting a magnet inside the claw with a stainless or aluminum sleeve around and shoving it in there.
