That's usually how you end up on ricer bashing sites.

No, it was from a SOHC VG Maxima. Upon further research it looks like if you own a 70amp alternator then the pulley will swap directly into the 90amp unit. The people that have to make adapters are the ones swapping the pulley from a 60amp unit because of the external cooling fins.

I don't care if it would be polished and fiber glassed and what not. It still doesn't change the fact that this is utter garbage because you can't polish a turd. He can spend more time on modifying the stock console to look better rather than fabricating a new one that doesn't even have the original fit.
-
I don't, this is the most ridiculous thing I ever seen. You can usually fix those cracked consoles with simple epoxy or bondo. Wood console? GTFO.
-
Actually the VG is an interference engine, that's why the valves get squished. A redneck trick you can do to straighten out those valves is by prying them with a flat head screwdriver until they seat back into the seats properly.
-
I'm sorry but that looks like utter @!*%e. I really do hope that's only temporary. Maybe someone that lives closer to you can help you out? Can you take a picture of your broken one? Why not go post in the Parts Wanted section?
-
An exhaust leak would get quieter because of things expanding. Maybe you can record a video of the rattle?
-
yeah if it doesn't physically fit then it's not even worth the hassle there was a navigation unit available as well but not worth the effort to find one for a cheap price garmin navigation units are superior to everything FYI: BOSE sound is garbage
-
I am with nunya on this one. If you want to be cheap you can use head units from other vehicles as long as they fit exactly like the one you are replacing. Just get a harness adapter for your Pathfinder and source the connectors for the head unit. I did a stereo swap on a Dodge Caravan recently using this same method... Old top, new on bottom... It was completely different on the other side! After some screwing around, I made the back plug in like the original one. It works great and only cost $30 to upgrade to CD and 3 way EQ!

Your profile shows that you live in LA... Chances of your truck being broken into and getting stolen are probably very good. It was probably just a break in and they couldn't get the vehicle to run. Let's see what happens with a good battery... I find it amazing that people would still take old Pathfinders. They don't really make great getaway vehicles unless you are getting away in a foot of snow.

Here is my A good aftermarket unit, such as those found in Crutchfield Signature, will almost always be better than any OEM stereo. Losing the navigation is not a big deal, just get a stand alone GPS unit.

Changing twin spark Z24 to single spark?
Tungsten replied to hoare85's topic in Z24 Engine Discussion
i would keep the twin spark setup -
check around the windshield area to make sure water is not getting in there and messing with your cluster

lol i said nissan should build a pathy with a VR38 and 75 i can get past 100 just fine but it stops trying at around 85 for me because of the poor aerodynamics fyi the gt-r is a heavy pig but that doesn't stop it from getting to 60 in under 3 seconds
-
yeah but that needs more custom work i was even fine with the 70 amp one and am only going to 90 amps because of a higher output at idle which improves reliability
-
yeah i think i'll stick with 90 just to be on the safe side to prevent things from melting i think the fusible link should melt before the harness at the alternator and i don't want the winding coming apart when the engine is doing 5000 rpm
-
I don't know about you guys but my 91 Pathfinder will hit 60 mph in under 11 seconds. That number would be even lower if the tires were smaller. I just need a way to mount the camera properly so I can record a good video of it. It's not the fastest SUV on the road today but it does not burn oil or need any major repairs every now and then. On that note, I have yet to see Nissan put a VR38 into a Pathfinder.
-
I guess for a Pathfinder, a 90amp alternator should be light enough to spin at 20,000 rpm without self destructing while still keeping the stock wires to the battery from melting in case of a dead battery. Good info there! Mods: Request for sticky!
-
I would keep the recirculating ball steering. The only thing is I would look into adding a manual steering gear on the other side for more strength.
-
You're kidding right?
-
A little off topic but suppose the belt can handle the load, I doubt the factory wiring is made to handle 240 amps. That would also be a good amount of rotating mass at 5000 rpm!
-
I don't know how it's derived but there should be a formula on how it is done. Something to do with belt length maybe? That's the reason for my post... There is a reason that industrial stuff uses twin V-belt pulleys or serpentine pulleys with multiple V-belt grooves. I have never seen a single V-belt used on anything powerful or relatively high output. For really high output stuff, belts are not even used. Those things are all powered by a tractor PTO shaft.
-
Doing an alternator swap has got me thinking what the theoretical limit is for the power transfer of a single groove v-belt. I heard they can transfer up to 2.2 hp, which for example should be good for a Maxima 90 amp alternator but I don't know if anything more is possible without the belt slipping at high rpm. Anyone have any ideas?

350HP twin turbo 1995 Pathfinder buildup
Tungsten replied to slick250's topic in Solid Axle Swaps, Hardcore Custom Fab
He said that the stock fuel pump can't keep up above a certain boost level. I don't think it's an increase, at least not when using all the power. -
The VGs are way more reliable by comparison.
