I haven't been around much at all these past few months, been busy as hell, but thats another story. These last two weeks have been especialy fun. Was on a road trip two weekends ago, a small one, about 150 miles one way. On the way up, she didn't shift (manual) as I was doin a couple small hill climbs, uh oh. I reach my destination after about 30 min of this, and parked it for the weekend. Worry about it later. Sunday rolls around, and time to go, so I hit the road. I needed gas before I hit the main freeway, so I stopped, got out, and smelled a funny smell, the kind only bad tranny fuild makes. I take a peak under her, and she just wet the bed, front seal it gone. Big uh oh. Well, I figure it's done, and jump back in and drive the 100 miles home. About 40 miles from home, it pops out of 5th gear. Cruise control, freeway, doin about 75. Thanak God for rev limiters. I scooted over to the slow lane and went to put it back in 5th. Uh oh, no 5th. OK 4th the rest of the way home. I hit a light just before my house, where I realized it was not gonna go into anything else, and barely got it back into 4th. Ooooh rough start. Haha, I have to drive up a hill to get to my house. Crap. By the time I thought to drop down to 4 low, too late, burned the clutch. Ok, close enough, walk home get the roomate's truck, tow it the last couple of blocks. Took it out in hopes to rebuild, but were quickly dashed when looking at the price of replacement gears. Here's what I found: oh it gets better, hosed main bearing Pile of goodies: and finally, the main shaft gear, or former, I should say: I found a junked tranny in Portland, OR ( Oregon plug, w00t) for $650, had to shipped to me in the bay area for 90 bucks. Had to replace the clutch, worked a deal and got it from the dealership for $100. As of right now, she has been pulled apart, checked out, bolted to the engine, and flushed. All thats left is tightening a few things, and a few other things. Weeeeeee thats been my fun the past 2 weeks. What did you do?

ok, first off, Cat are cool, as long as they don't make me sneeze too much. If they do, well........ 88, you're cat's fine by the way. Now for the real matter at hand...... PBR Hey man it's won a blue ribbon. nuf said

hokiruu Down shifting while in the event of an expected traction loss is a bad idea. It changes the torque the to rear tires, even if almost perfect match, and cause a spin out. I've done it myself and learned the hard way by crunching into a snow bank, and almost once again later due to the same reason before I relized what I was doing out of habit.

Lol, "If you came around" I still waiting for my stand off block man, wasn't that supposed to be last week? or is that 2 weeks now. All I know is that John's bike has been apart and put backtogether twice now since then. And another thing, we're talking a couple years and about 400cc difference. Multiply times years riding and of course you're gonna wanp. As Jeff Foxworthy would say: DUUUUUUUUUUH!

ditto on the Calmini kit, waaaaaay better product for the few extra bucks.
-
Another idea I heard from 88, make a plate that matches the bottom portion of the piece which hold the tire out from the carrier itself. Weld the plate to the bottom, and it makes a great place to stash snatch straps, shackels, etc while wheelin, or just about anything that would fit.
-
Thats a sweet lookin color, kinda makes em look like Calmini's. If you can, make some spacers out of some heave duty matting. A buddy made some for me that were about a 3/4 inch, and they are workin great, good ride with a bit more height due to the rear tire carrier weighin down on her butt.

Seriously though, I know a kid at our school, was all about his heep cherokee. The dang thing broke driving down the street, and he would try to wheel it as well, and then was askin me how to fix things. Funny thing is, he got rid of it, and what does he tell me the other day? He got another one. I asked him how that that saying went: "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."

ok it's about 2.55 +/- .o5 around Vallejo in the east bay area. Luckily I have been riding my Ninja around and it gets about 35-40 a gallon. Only problem is that it takes premium, which jumps up to 2.75 for a low and 2.90 as a low. Lucky the tank is only 4.2 gallons.

Just a quick standpoint. One, oils is a source that will one day be depleted. While that day might be far off, it WILL happen. With that in mind, as the sources become fewer and fewer, the supply runs out with a whole supply and demand type thing. I hate to say it but even it the federal government did step in, the same would happent. It's just realative to time. As a standpoint to alternate resources, that is the real answer here. Not that I'm some tree-huggin hippie, as I'm from Washington and we hug our trees then cut them down. Wind and solar advances in the past few years have grown by leaps and bounds. The main point is I guess is that yes, we may have fuel now for ourselves, to look to the future for alternates would be a foolish thing not to do now, while we still can. But I guess we can see how we would do under a bit more pressure. My bad, I said quick didn't I. Opps

All the electronic adjustable shocks do is change the valving of the the flow path of the shock internals. By having a smaller and narrower pathe, the fluid, gas or oil, flows more restricted. If the opening is enlargened, more fluid can pass through in a shorter amount of time , therefore resulting in a faster, but less dampening shock absorbtion. I.E. an off road shock will have smaller holes to better dampen the larger loads, but small bumps are still felt, whereas, street ones are bigger, so small bumps are smoothed out faster. Make sense?!?!? M.M.

/\ once again to re-iterarte, what they said. In reality, if there is nothing to hide, there should be no problem taking it to a mechanic. But either way, be prepared to walk away, don't get your heart set. M.M.

Is The Engine Shaking The Truck Normal At Idle?
MaritimeMan replied to armelius2's topic in 86.5-89 WD21 Pathfinders
Sounds to me like you have a busted motor mount. I had a similar problem, engine died, pulled it, had a busted motor mount, replaced it, problem went away. -
Ok, so whats the lowest tire press you can run?
MaritimeMan replied to MaritimeMan's topic in The Garage
Holy crap!!! 249.00 A pop, thats insane. My wheel tire combo doesn't cost that a piece. But I guess if you are real serious, and have the cash it would be a great investment. -
Whoa, didn't know that, learn somethin new every day here.
-
/\ what he said. I run 31's BFG AT's Jack of all trades, master of none. With our winnie little motors, even with the mods to mine, bigger tires sucks the gas in a hurry. Unless of course you wheel alot, and I mean enough to make that extra gas worth your while.

Yes, those are sweet, with the joy stick and all. Most boats are a 12V system so it shouldn't be a problem to hook up at all. The real problem comes in the form of $$$ as they are a boating item, and if you know boats, boats and their toys = big $$$

Second air? What is this second air you speak of? -
Yah, that ain't right. Sounds like they are stabbin in the dark. Presonally I know very little of the innards of an auto tranny, but what I don know, is that if it's not easily solved, get you wallet out, and make sure you have some room on the 'ol credit cards. I'd agree and say you might have a bum tranny, and a replace will solve that, but that ain't cheep either. Good luck, let us know how it turns out. M.M.
-
Ok, ok, I said it before and I'll say it again. All those fancy smancy $6-7 a pop sparks plugs really won't do much unless you upgrade your entire ignition system as well. Sure "they provide better spark", but with what? The exact same current supplied by your ingition, so you end up with the exact same spark more or less with those, than with the cheepies.. So, I personally can't justify tossin cash into a product that really won't do anything, unless I upgrade the whole system. It would be equvilant to putting racing cam into your motor and not upgrading you intake, exhaust and ECU. Oh, and I use NGK's BTW. M.M.

Ditto, same story here. Keep the boxes for all goodies you get, so if the time comes, use the crap outta that warrenty.

/\ what he said. Try to clean it up with a tap. If there is too much damage inside, a helicoil works wonders. How they work is you drill the existing hole to the next side up and tap it. The helicoil is just that, a coil where the outter diameter matches your new hole and threads into it, and the inside diameter and pitch is what the hole used to be. Very strong and reliable. M.M.
