  1. Yup yup, just got my 02...44K on her and it has the band repairs all over them---but they rattle!!
  2. depending on the year of your rig--96-99--go get the Quest alty as it is much larger amperage than the pathy alty....plenty here can help you swap it!
  3. Recycle the old cats...they may even pay for the new ones you buy!! Cats go for lots of $$$--platinum inside the honeycomb.
  4. Hey guys, I don't post up here often but I am interested in regearing my rig, the 4.36's just suck...I have a local that has the 4.63's I am not sure if the rear is open or not. I want to know if it is worth the effort getting a factoy lsd 4.63 vs open 4.63 and then if an LSD is better that a mech locker...I primarily drive on road, my plans (again, with this rig) is to go offroad...to a mediocre capacity. I have read that mech lockers are pretty awesome, but not on icy roads. I live in MD and icy will show up here about every Winter...help me out ! Please! ....I am really jealous of the new Silverado and its mech locker----------is there anything like it that I can get for my rig??
  5. I am really curious, I am moving to the garage to finish the topic of Lockers ...
  6. Daaamn, super glad to see the rig cared as much for you as you did it!! Go get another one!! Sweet combo by the way with the green and grey...I am thinking I am getting my silver 02 trimmed with grey like yours with bed liner!! Did I mention get another one?? My best to the family, and....I hope the drunk figures more of life out as well.
  7. No doubt, just moving to a size of 255/70/16 made my VQ change its thoughts, very aggrevating, watching it hold RPM's at like 3K for no reason, then falling back after a 1 MPH improvement...I see re grearing in my future, although that rear end looks scary to me. Do you think that the tranny points get moved around due to say an LSD instead of opens? *snatch topic* if you are regearing, from 4.36 to 4.63, would you reccommend getting the factory LSD or adding a Detroit locker? (This is on a daily driver)
  8. I would spend some time looking at Titans with intakes and exhausts, that is an easy and safe way to mod your BRAND NEW RIG!! I would imagine that those 2 are going to be the most pleasing for you. Congrats and welcome!
  9. Ok, as mentioned before, Haynes was a big help, perfectionists but helpful! -->Remove all intake ducting and box (makes life easier, and then install pop charger) -->Take off pretty cover (2 nuts 1 bolt) -->Take photo of all vaccuum lines running around TB then disconnect them -->Use socket style hex head to remove throttle body, caution gasket may want to fall towards ground when removing throttle body from intake my dealer gave me the wrong gasket for the TB so I needed to preserve its shape---when ordering gaskets they will need manufact. month and year -->Set TB aside and start on 13 assorted fasteners that hold top IM onto lower IM, "crack" them loose first the remove in torq order per Haynes -->Use cardboard to hold bolts/fasteners in order to re-install correctly -->On passenger rear there is a bracket that does hold the upper IM to the lower IM and simply holds O2 wires or something (2 brackets, just remove the rear-most bracket) -->Pry--GENTLY--the upper from the lower, there are all sorts of reasons that they will get snagged not wanting to separate up and out of the engine bay (small hoses and brackets that will rub against making contact etc--small working area) -->Look immediately at left side of air tubes for your throttle screws -->Go do an End-Zone dance---or---curse Nissan -->Carefully remove each screw (#2 phillips-un damaged to ensure your screws do not strip) apply loc-tite (medium for me) and reinstall with good evenly applied pressure (I found that out of 12 screws 4 were easily removed, the rest were quite snug---I also found these to be magnetic--thus not brass---the throttle plates are under heavy spring load, so it should be difficult to dump a screw into the motor while working) -->Clean TB with teflon approved cleaner, intake with regular style of degreaser -->Re-install upper IM with fasteners in order of Haynes WITH rear passenger bracket first-----(I must admit I am not totally convinced you need to use new gaskets as these are rubber coated metal gaskets, however I did due to my personal issue with Murphy's Law) -->Re-install TB, at this point you could bypass the TB coolant line also if you feel confident and have a 3/8 vaccuum "T" and clamps (I think it was 3/8) -->Pretty cover, intake, bla bla bla let Loc-Tite cure and happy trails with your now cured VQ!!!
  10. I used new gaskets, but I really think that you could re-use. My TB gasket was wrong so that got reused. The gaskets are metal with a thing coat of rubber, so unless part of the gasket sticks to the opposing manifold and peels off (READ: wait till engine is cold), there should be no problem. I have awesome pics of this work...I hope later today to stick them in the pinned section for this topic.
  11. Hey guys....I am back in an R50! I bought an 02 Chrome Silver SE. It has 44K miles on it basic interior and no sunroof : (----The interior is the black cloth, which I am very much in love with. The truck came from auction in Manheim PA, before that I don't know as I have not pulled the Carfax on it. The truck had previously been painted in the rear drivers side QP and front fender--neither piece had been replaced so damage must have been minimal....the fender is perfect the QP is good to normal people buuuuut I am abnormal so I am planning on having it touched up. The rig has already had its intakes taken off and all of my 12 power-valve screws were there!!! :tonguefinger: 4 of the 12 were loose, as in turned immediately with a screw driver...the others required good concentrated effort to remove without stripping out the phillips pattern. I will post pics later of the manifolds, probably in the pinned section. The screws seemed to have some type of rubber(y) thread lockers on them, but with the amount of oil the PCV system allows through the intakes that rubber could be no match! I have not had too much fun in the truck yet as I have spent every day off changing fluids and filters. I was disappionted that my local Advance did not carry Iridiums for the truck so no plug change yet. I did already bypass the throttle body coolant lines, this added no extra ponies that I can tell, however there is no loss of power once the truck is warmed up. Other than that, man does this thing scoot! ..................XPLOx4 you were almost predicting the future a couple of posts back when you said I needed another 98 silver pathfinder to preserve my screen name, lol I end up with an 02 silver path! I did not plan it, but it was the best rig for the buck in the auction, which turned out to be the lowest priced rig at the auction for several weeks!!! (that wasn't banged up or rode hard.....)
  12. I am going to find a way to route that coolant line around the thorttle body instead of through...that HAS to make a difference!?
  13. Damn! Dean always beats me! That is exactly why it is in there...I searched high and low to figure that out myself! When I took my dizzy off for replacement I also took all of those tubes out and cleaned the gunk out of them and was angry...I thought that one of the "shops" left it in there by mistake...really went off the deepend wondering how much of the rest of that pipe cleaner went into the engine! Lol--LAL (live and learn)
  14. I have the lower intake manifold gasket part number.....the one inthe middle of the plenum would not help....as it would leave a gap in the outside edge of the plenum...that would have to be traced. #14033-4w010
  15. Great to hear again from you! It is to my understanding that the VQ3.5 runs lean (actually I heard that the "lean" it runs is perfect for it) quite often, so I don't thik that it is you K&N. Do you have a seat of the pants dyno for us?? SCANGAUGE--I do want one of these, but I have to get my truck first!
  16. Valves are adjustable, but you lifters are purely hydrolic so they cannot be adjusted....here is the sweetest link ever to show you under the valve covers in your 3.3! Under valve covers
  17. Is it just me or does that QX4 have a great big lift on it --and-- Warn Hubs? Off topic but anybody that can fill me in on how that worked shoot me a PM -----Can we also mention where the cheapest ARB's can be found? Like that company in Canada that somone had ordered from?----
  18. Definately a cruddy ad! What is worse is that some of them say they will fit an 01-03 Frontier...oh yeah? So the part isnow also for the VG series...wish I hadd-a known that before I did cams in my 98!
  19. I had that exact size on my '98 at first... ahhh my uploads are failing...but they are less than 100 KB....so I'll post a pic later??
  20. Just returned from the local dealer...got all my gaskets ordered....the Plenum spacer in no-way, shape, or form will fit our trucks The only hope (without complete customization) for more ponies is the throttle body coolant-bypass spacer. I will update!
  21. Anybody? I just need the distance, even approx, from top of plenum (with or without the plenum 3500 cover) to the hood insulation1 It looks to me like the plastic cover has been notched to fit the hood, I can deal without the cover easily.....besides there are other spacers out there that show dyno's proving that 5/16" is largest gain without hassle..............hook me up...I will buy the part and be a Guninnea pig!! Motorydyne
  22. Sooooo.............thos with the 3.5, did anyone measure to see if thee is room to lift the intake manifold 5/16" inches? Remove the plastice 3500 shroud and measure for us (and me!) I am serious about ordering this since I will be taking care of the butterfly valves also. Dyno'd at 10 WHP and 8 TQ WITH 2 MPG is worth the bucks, since cams are only estimated at 10-15 HP on the VG's for a grand number of $560 just for cams!!
  23. ------------>Dude! That is an awesome write up!!<-------------- This is exactly the type of information needed! I picture, as often as possible, when I first joined the site and what confused me....the pins that we have now are awesome! To make these pins detailed as possible is a must. The only thing that I think could be improved is to have a "PIN" that gives the raw info, and then sort of a sub column that gives all the room to talk about it, that way people that are zooming in for the info can get that with out deeply serching the multiple pages of posts. Again Jarsiff, that is a BIG help! I now feel like I am capable of doing the repair/check!
