Punkfinder Posted January 17, 2010 Share Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) 93 SE-V6. I can hear my rear wiper motor click when I activate it, but the arm won't move. I just replaced my old dead one with this used one 6 months ago. I don't know much about motors and switches, so does anyone know what the 'click' means? Is it the motor shot (again) or a switch or...? If the motor is toast, is there any way to fix it or is it easier to by a new/used one? Slartibartfast Posted February 24, 2017 Share Posted February 24, 2017 Looks like there's a diagram on BF-10 that covers the glass latch and the rear wiper. Looks like it switches ground but I'm not gonna study it now. I'll need to have a better look at some point though as I've been thinking I should rig it up so that the cargo light comes on with just the glass popped open to reduce the need for groping around in the dark for the dome light switch. Seems like it would be simple enough to just run a wire from the hatch switch to the cargo door switch, assuming both are switched grounds... one of these days I'll get around to it. hawairish Posted February 24, 2017 Share Posted February 24, 2017 EL-49 in the 94 FSM says it's NO and that it interrupts the wiper motor relay. Not sure how much the design has changed on the wiper motor assembly, but I had this problem on my 04. The wiper motor assembly housing (which houses the switch) had a crack in it that reduced its rigidity, and ultimately prevented the wiper arm from fully seating in the plastic rest below the window. It was just enough to not close the circuit. I wrapped the housing tightly with gaffers tape and haven't had the problem since. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am trying to get my rear wiper functioning as it wasn’t working when I recently purchased it. So, I wonder if anyone can tell me where I can find a rear wiper wiring diagram for a 1991 Terrano. Also, I am pretty sure I found the relay behind inspection panel in the rear cargo space. But where is the Amplifier? Is it the tan box attached to front wiper motor in the engine bay? Trying to follow a wiring diagram from a 1994 Pathfinder (I think) but the cable colouring is different. Any help would be awesome. I have tried searching. Slartibartfast Posted July 9, 2023 Share Posted July 9, 2023 The tan box on the front wiper motor is the intermittent amp for the front wipers, and that's all it does. The rear wiper has its own amp. I know where it is on my US-spec '93. Hopefully your Terrano is similar. Pop off that lower cargo area side panel you've got the access door out of. (Grab and pull, but mind the front corner that goes under the rear trim.) Look at the hole you were looking at before, then at the upright just in front of it, that the trim panel hid. At the top there's a screw holding the front end of a relay bracket. Below that screw are two more screws, holding a U-shaped metal bracket, on the end of which is a black box that sorta hides behind that upright. On the back of that black box is a sticker that says AMP ASSY WIPER. EL-69 in the '90 manual (free on cardiagn.com last I checked) has the circuit diagram for the square-dash. The '94/'95 manual on Nicoclub (also free) should be about the same, though the round-dash moved the switch from the dash to the wiper stalk. I have not found a manual for the Terrano, unfortunately--both of those manuals are US-spec. Hopefully the pinouts and circuitry are at least similar to what you're working with, and there isn't some down-under-only koala-sensing-wipers option that changes everything around. All that said, start with the simple stuff. See if the wiper motor is getting power and ground. Chase whichever side of the circuit isn't giving it what it needs. I would not be surprised if the hatch glass lockout was acting up like Hawairish mentioned above. If you strike out on the simple stuff, then dig in deeper and see if the wiring has any similarity to the US model. IIRC there's a surprising amount of moving stuff in the hatch for a single wiper, so be careful around it when it's powered up. I would not want to try and stop any part of it with my hand if the wiper motor kicked on unexpectedly. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Having the matching colours on the wiring diagram will help so I will be sure to check your suggestions! The resistance readings I was getting at the tan coloured box didn’t make sense, which made me think I was on the wrong track. The hatch sensor is working so now to check the correct Amp. Chess Posted July 12, 2023 Share Posted July 12, 2023 Today I got a replacement amp from the wrecker. Finally got voltage at the motor (about 5vdc). The wiper moved a tiny bit. I managed to help it along until it moved by its self. Figuring the wiper might be sized a little I switched off the ignition, leaving the wiper in the verticals position. No worries, switch the Ignition back on and nothing. No movement, no voltage. I have now pin pointed the right fuse position in the fuse box and wouldn’t you know it? 20A fuse! I would disconnect the wiper motor and power it directly off a jump pack or power tool battery or something to see if it moves like it should and just isn't getting the power it needs, or if the motor is bound up and overloading the circuit. I wondered too if that was because of load on the circuit before it arrives at the motor and perhaps you are switching to ground when activating the wiper. I would love to know if anyone else out there could confirm the voltage at the motor (disconnected and testing of the wire terminal). Meanwhile I will be installing the correct fuse and digging up another amp and as you suggested Slartibartfast, checking the mechanics and operational status of the motor itself. Chess Posted July 15, 2023 Share Posted July 15, 2023 Problem fixed! After replacing the Amp (again) I traced a short at the wiper motor gearbox. Where the mechanical switching contact is. After a lot of fault finding, stripping down said gearbox and finding nothing wrong there, tracing wiring out, finding nothing. I discovered I had transposed the gearbox wiringFFS!
