That is a shame to hear... I hope things turn around for him.

hmmm... I guess that explains why anyone who has paid for membership hasnt got their page up... is there anyway to look after that for Jim?

Also, with that said, when renewal time comes for the hosting on these pages, is NPORA doomed??

***I'm trying not to post-whore here, so if a mod sees fit or there is discussion, maybe this will move to the Off Topic page or wherever is approapriate. But for now, this seemed the place. Just trying to Push an awareness***

On Pezzy's thought, maybe we should go back to the idea of a fee or at least maybe donations to the Save the NPORA fund. Something to take the burden off of Jim. I'm sure at least half the people that have posted here have had a question answered or problem solved that in turn saved them a couple (hundred) bucks. Ideally, I'd say everybody could contribute 50 cents or a buck a month and all would be well in the world. Thats like the cost of a newspaper and less than half the cost of a Starbucks drink. But I imagine anything would help. Since a mandatory fee obviously might discourage new members, maybe a donation approach would be the way to go. Even if random people threw up a few bucks from time to time (probably nobody searching this kind of forum is rich) we'd make a dent for sure.

hmm.. yea, maybe we split this to a new topic...

I wonder how far the $10 for membership gets us...

it's a good start... I know SOXC makes a bit of $$ off of our club stickers (and excess goes to charity)...

I by no means want to "take away" NPORA from Jim, but quite simply his life is elsewhere these days... I suppose 88 is the only one who has any idea of what we CAN do here...

As with the last time this was brought up I agree too and would cheerfully make donations.

Based on a quick look, it appeared to me that it would be a minimum of about $25-$35 a month for the sites hosting... this is both the main page (www.nissanpathfinders.com) and the forums (npora.ipbhost.com). Based on the amount of new members and the increased activity in recent months here I would venture to say that costs to support that have risen recently.

I may be off here, but again it was just a quick look at ipbhost.com and what I "think" may be the hosting company for nissanpathfinders.com

At any rate, I am in support of any help we can offer to Mr. Jim... he has done so much more for all of us here, simply by creating and maintaining the two sites that we find so valuable and has brought us all together.

I am also willing to offer up any other help that may be needed/that I can.

how about not to discourage new members we keep the initial fees at $10 like always and then have renewal fees? But also go the donation route.. so if anyone wants to kick down a bit more cash that's fully possible. I know this site has been a god send to me, and many others and although i am seriously not made of money i would be more than willing to throw down some extra cash for sure. maybe $5 a month from all us "regular" users? Doesn't sound like much but it sure adds up.

What if we start a donation fund to get Mr Jim a new clutch? I paid $178 for mine new with the t/o bearing.. lemme see.. say.. there's about 20 regular users... divided by... makes it around ... $10 each.. i'd be willing to donate that to Mr Jim personally.. not NPORA on this occasion. His site has been a life saver

I know what pezzy hit on is a soft subject as mr jim is the originator/owner of this site, but what if he were to at least give temporary control (to includ all passwords/access) to 88 for the time being on the understanding he is still large and in charge, but so much needed changes can be made.. like the removal of our little trojan friend, getting new members up and running...that way it would stay mr jims site, but for now we would be able to better secure the site and upgrade?

I truly feel for me jim, i have been there (not divorce.. but hard times) and i hope he stays healthy through all of this, and i truly wish him the best.

what do you think guys n gals? time to cowboy up here or what???

Maybe 88 or B can be the donation stations? lets get mr jim back on the road and NPORA back on top where mr jim would be proud!! -bounce-

remember who made this all happen guys n gals :aok:

:aok: I'm in...there is no doubt the number of enjoyable upgrades, repairs, and other wise info passed here. I found ACT clutch kits for $165 t/o bearing and all.

I say -bounce- on the opportunity while it is here and get the clutch and donations rolling...this site can't teeter in jeopardy. I am in no position to pay for the entire site to keep rolling and no one can pay for Jim's time or 88's time in $, the only thing that can be dealt is respect...on that topic I mean respecting each other minus flames and don't make situations where an admin has to think aout removing posts...that my friends is respect. ;)

I am prepared right now to make a donation for Jim's clutch and the site so please lets not be a G W Bush, move in a positive direction (without stammering! Lol) :gossip:

...of course I would not want to "take" the site from Jim...are you kidding that is like conspiracy against the president!!---I should add "a president that you like" lol

sooooo.. who wants to be the donation station? B?? you wanna do it? 88? you got time? hmmm? we have offers of money.. so lets get mailin it while the generosity is hot! -bounce-

maybe we can set up a PO box in NPORA's name?? I am also more than willing to handle the donations, but I think it best be in the hands of 88 or B.. or any of the moderators for that matter. They have closer access to Mr jim than I do.. but I guess all I need is his address... sssh just a thought!

First of all...I knew this place was great but damn, this thread *almost* brought a tear to my eye!

It's great to see everyone banding together to help out a brother in need. That's just amazing. That's some serious cameraderie right there. You won't find that on a Jeep forum!

That said, I would be more than happy to toss a few bucks NPORAs way to help out with the costs of hosting, bandwidth, updates and what not, and would definitely be willing to toss a few bucks Jim's way to offset the cost of his clutch.

Maybe we could set up a Paypal account and then mail him a check for the whole donated amount?

 that's an awesome idea venge.. but like Dave and I.. we don't use pay pal.. we always pay via money order :hide: .. if we have a simple mailing/and or pay pal account then more peeps would probably donate.. the more the merrier! lets keep Mr Jim in the black and NPORA on top! -bounce-

We could always do both.

Have one person volunteer to accept the donations, and set up a paypal account for it, then transfer all the money into a bank account and deposit all the money orders/checks that were mailed and send one big check with a list of all the people who contributed to Mr. Jim.

:clap: that was kind of the line i was thinkin.. sept i hadn't thought of pay pal... we could set up an account in NPORA's name.. but i think once the money comes in we should ship it straight off to mr jim so he can have some pennies toward his pathy and whatever else he needs... that way he's kinda got somethin to start with... i dunno.. so far everyone has really shown what this site is all about *wipes tear from eye* and it's AWESOME!!!!!

Time I reply to this... I have no problem setting up a fund both for NPORA and Mr Jim. As for being closer to Mr Jim, nope, I've never talked to the guy, but I could get the forwarding info from Aaron.

As for Aaron taking over 'maganement' of the site, I agree he is the best candidate BUT he is also in a difficult position... It would be better than the current situation, but don't know how much time/energy he would have to spare.

Of course, like everyone else, this site has saved me much $ and been a source of a lot of fun. Thats worth some $ to me !! As for Mr Jim, well, he started everything, and I hate to see a fellow in need. The cost of clutch parts wouldn't be much, but Mr Jim might not even be willing to accept any $ or perhaps his pathy is far down the list of important things right now.

Regardless, having a NPORA fund to make sure the site is payed for would be a VERY good idea. I also recommend having more stickers made and selling them for $10 each, putting the 'profit' in the fund. I'm willing to try to set up the next round, I just need the files.

Give me a day or two to think about how to set this all up right and to try to get some better information.

 Thanks everyone for your concerns and willingness to help out. It is very impressive.

Would've been nice to see some of that enthusiasm come out when I was heating my house with a goddamn propane stove and lighting it with candles, but hey, I guess I just wasn't around to talk about it. I only just a couple of weeks ago got my power, gas and water all turned back on. They were all off for almost a month because I lost my last job and they screwed me on unemployment.

Don't pity Jim for having to pay a lot for hosting. The only one he can blame for costing him extra $$ is himself. I told him he needed to switch hosting companies a long time ago. There are a MILLION hosting companies that can do the exact same thing for $9 a month, just like my forums.

88, because youre the only one in touch with Mr. Jim, youre the only one who really knows, or can find out how we go about doing that... switching hosts, upgrading the board, free puppies for everyone... whatever it takes... I dont want to log on one day to see *poof*

nothing.

Odd, I thought most of the regulars knew at least that you couldn't pay for internet; thats a pretty good indication of troubles. Well, I offered to help, but...

If there is a next time, I'll make sure it is well known and we'll go from there.

i agree that there need to be multiple administrators of both the forums AND the webspace that the site is hosted on... it makes absolutely no sense to have just one. if you're going to start a website and have it turn into a whole community, its now a responsibility to make sure you support it and having one admin is not a good way to do that.

I can understand you were possibly hurt by our suddenly running to mr jims aide when you yourself were in a very tight situation recently, of which we really knew nothing about except your i'net got turned off.... and no one jumped to your aide.. i am sorry for that. I am always one for helping my fellow pathy owner.. i just figured money was tight so you let the i'net go .... i had no idea it was that bad else i would have sent you a lil "care" package. *big hugz*

never be afraid to ask for our help!! hell.. you have saved our pathy's lives with your wisdom on more than one occasion (well.. mine at least!) and i would be more than happy to repay you for all you have done for us also.

*shrug* That's just how it is right now. I dunno if Jim even remembers his PW for the hosting account or not, but I can call and ask. Sorry for the negativity earlier, I got up on the wrong side of the peace pipe or something.

np, all good... *hug*

I think a good first step is to chat with Jim to see what we can do to help support his board. I think we need to be able to upload new paid member's info pages if he is unable. And if the time comes to renew the hosting, then we want to know it can be done. Also, like mentioned before, it would be nice to have the access to kill the trojan, and upgrade where needed.
