1987caddy
Hey everyone, on my 95 XE the alternator is only producing 12 volts until I rev the motor to 3k RPMS and then it produces 13.8-14 volts after that. With the engine off, battery has 12.3 volts. When first start up its showing 12 volts at the battery. Once you rev it, it makes good voltage even at idle and voltage stays good with a load on the system. Battery is 2 months old and alternator is 6-7 months old. It's a reman 90 amp maxima alternator. Any ideas to fix low voltage at startup?
Trogdor636
Get it tested IMO. You shouldn't have to find a workaround for that, the alternator should just do it.
adamzan
Sounds like the common case of "reman gone bad" to me lol. I went through 2 altys before I got one that stayed working.
1987caddy
I'll have to wait until the weekend to get it checked. I'll be in the company truck all week. I checked all the wiring and grounds but still doing same thing
GrimGreg
That actually sounds typical for the Maxima swapped alts. Mine will sometimes not charge well at idle either. I think Simon or someone else had it do it on theirs as well. I think it might be a pulley size issue.

I do remember some talk about this issue also
1987caddy
The charging issue just started yesterday. First 6 months everything was good. Luckily the alt has a lifetime warranty
headpeace
I'd pull it off and go get a new one then. I've been through so many lifetime warranty alts I could remove and install one in my sleep probably.
