ROOF CONSOLE

Well after many PM'Sand other messages i finnaly have gotten around to taking out the roof consol for you guys.

 

This console was origionaly in the pathy when i bought it. but being my 3rd pathy ive had this in 2 of them. I have taken as many pics as i can and done a couple of drawings aswell for sizes. (special not to davefromoz for converting drawings for me)

But first is first. pics. and descriptions of both consols

 

 

this is probly the best shot i could with it in the car.

 

 

All of the roof console is made from 4mm, 12mm ply and a steel mount bracket on the front.

 

 

 

The mounting point for the center console is at the front and back only. Back is the orgional holes for the interior light and the front runs under the rear vision mirror mount.

FRONT

BACK. Note the hole for the interior light has been moved back slightly (aprox 30mm) so fixing holes can be used.

 

All wiring for the UHF. CD STACKER, HEAD UNIT have all been run along the front pillars. The only wire that does not run up here is the Uhf cable as the Ariel is mounted on the spare wheel carrier so that runs up the rear pillar and across the roof lineing.

 

now to the pillar to pillar roof console. This is an added extra made by myself. easy fitting aswell

it wasnt easy to get pics as all the wires are still conected but ill post the pis anyway.

 

left and right fittings just go back to where the roof handle is

 

for the guys with the center consloe fittings into the center where just some pieces of aluminium angle.

Just round some edges and make it yours. good luck with it all and i hope that with this im helping someone out there to build something ie this.

I've never seen that and I like it!! What is the material covering it? Does it seem custom stitched??

I was wondering where to put some gauges, and now I think I have my answer!!

It looks like marine carpet, UV & water resistant.

Looks good, I made a new customer center trim section where the dome light is so it would fit the overhead DVD player I installed (the layer was wider than the original center trim) Now it looks like I might have to make a small addition to it

the one that runs from pillar to pillar is just marine carpet. and the other one has a vynal covering with a small layer of foam inside. the products that the guys sell are good quality to but if anyone gives it ago themselves i would like to see a pic aswell

I'll have to say, I'm about as motivated on making something like this as I am installing my suspension lift and tires. I have the idea of using the headliner material out of my parts pathy for the finish so the frame/body can be cobbed together. I don't think I would have thought of this, thanks a LOT for starting the thread and if/when I get going on this, I'll do a full write up!!

It isn't anywhere near where your head would be normally and I find that the WD21s have plenty of head room unless you are 7 feet tall with 2 foot long legs...

Measure up the distance between your rear view mirror and the moon roof, Matt should be able to tell you if the main body (section where deck mounts) will fit in there.

I like it, but one question, does it affect the headroom at all? That would be the only concern for me.

 

The only problem i have with it is the console that runs from pillar to pillar is the radio is to close to my head and its hard to read the front of it. but once the radio is on its on and i know where the volume is other than that the visors do sit a bit lower aswell. but just for the center console. there is only 1 issue of the uhf mic wires hangn down. but there are different things to eliminate this. check out the website. they have a piece of velcro for that issue.. i have 3 kids to. they climb in and out and they dont have any head banging issues either.

the only issue i can see with that is the back of the center console mounts to where the interior light mounts. if there is a rib in the roof that can be screwed to. im shure jst make it shorter. or in 2 pieces. ill be making one for the bac seat aswell soon.

nice mod...I'd htought about trying to do one down the center but my head is way too close to the roof...this seems like it may be a valid solution
