Precise1
Well, everything is in full swing. The eggplants are starting to egg, the cucumbers are cucumming, the peppers are peppering (the Hungarian wax pepper has 5 going, the largest at 3"), the 4 tomato plants are having a shoot off, about 2 dozen each for the smaller ones while the big ones are trying to be trees before fruition, the squash is squashing (the butter nut and spaghetti are slower), the peas are going for round #2, the garlic chives/oregano/basil/taragon are going nutz. I just planted a tomatillo plant today along with 6 asian pole beans. We'll see how that goes... B

adamzan
Well I don't own a house but my parents are divorced and they both have nice gardens/landscaping so I thought I'd share it with ya. Mom's place(we're planning on selling soon that's why these were taken): There is tomatos, lettuce, cucumbers, green beans and stuff somewhere, but I dunno Front Back I'll have to dig through to find the ones of my dads place. GrimGreg
Well, the largest ear of corn I've had was about 6", most have been about 4". The stalks are all drying up now, so there's no getting any larger. On the up side, the corn has been the best tasting corn I have had in at least 10 years. What was left of my beans had dried out on the vine, so I harvested them and put them in an envelope, maybe I can plant them next year.
94extreme
cool. my beans are really kicking in right now. i planted Missouri wanders this year. they seem to be less stringy the the KY climbers. i also have climbing lima beans and they look kinda cool. i'll have to take a pic. my cucumbers had a run a while back but it's looking like the second batch is about to kick in. my english cuces (long) haven't really been productive; i've only picked a few but it's still working on more. tomatoes are doing great but many of them have this white twinge to them (on the inside) and none of them taste super heavenly. but they are still better then store bought stuff. overall, my garden is doing pretty darn well. i'll take some pics some time here in the near future. GrimGreg
The only tomatos we are getting are the grape tomatos, our "Better Boys" have only produced 2 small ones, about half the size they should have been. Sounds like a common issue from other people we have talked to.
nige
i have been enjoying toasted tomato sandwiches from my garden for the last 3 or 4 days now. They did really will with all the rain we had this year. Could have used a little more sun though. My scallions still aren't ready to pull, and my green peppers aren't ready to pick -the are taking a long time. I also have dill, coriander, spearmint, taragon, oregano, chives, basil and sage for herbs. I will be planting my garlic shortly. that's cool that you were able to grow corn GG. you must have some good black dirt and lots of sun in your backyard it is my first time growing my own veg and herb garden. I think i should relocate some of the plants though. The peppers don't get enough sun and the tomatoes overgrew most of the little corner i allocated for them. I also need to stagger my planting so i don't end up with piles of tomatoes. I already gave a bunch to my neighbors and mom for making salsa. because people like to say salsa. Lessons learned for next season.
GrimGreg
The direction I'm facing in the pic I posted is north, and there are no large trees to the south, so the garden area gets full sun from about 10 am until 6 pm. The soil isn't the greatest, we have a lot of clay here, but I tried ammending it with some peat and compost before planting. nige
sheep's manure works good too. just mix in a few bags before you plant

94extreme
the trees around have really grown and i get quite a bit of shade nowadays. it's been a bit of a funky year around here. it was super wet late spring and cool beginning of summer and then hot but really dry. nothing really wanted to grow as it should.
