CV boot replacement

Ok guys I replaced 2 of my cv axle and I have a pair sitting in the basement right now. Is it worth it to replace the boots on those so I have a couple of spare?

 

Im not sure if my cv axles are rebuildable as far as replacing the torn outer boots When I replaced it it wasnt making any clicking noise at all.

 

What should i be looking for inside the boot? Inner race for wear maybe?

It's a great idea. CV's are easy to rebuild and when you get them apart to clean up you'll be able to tell if they have any kind of damage inside. I've done three or four boots on mine already and they work fine.

Yeah, the boots are easy. The hardest part is done (pulling the shaft off the truck).

might be a good thing to pull and either rebuild (see if they can be rebuilt) or replace....

anytime you can have extra parts its a good thing...it'll save u some $ if something breaks and get you back on the road/trail quicker....

This should be an easy one (I hope) Getting some boots tomorrow and keep you guys postwed on how this rebuilt went.

 

 

88 I forgot to ask,Did you just wipe off the old grease on there or you hafta wash it off with a degreaser?

It would be best to thoroughly clean and degrease them, that way to get all the grit and grim out and when your done they are riding on 100% new and clean grease... I mean, if your going to do it then you might as well do it right the first time

I wipe off the excess with rags and then run the parts through my parts washer full of WD-40. Heh. CV grease is slightly easier to remove than axle grease.

once it's nice and clean, it should be obvious if there is any excessive wear
