Poor man's way to remove the rear suspension bushings
FUELER replied to taro's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
hahaha reminds me of hondas... on a honda, when you separate the front balljoint, it is easy to "mushroom" aka destroy the bolt that hold the lower balljoint, if not careful. I ruined it but was able to get the nut on, crossthreaded and holding the weight of the cars front corner on only a few threads. i drove it to the other side of my neighborhood ghetto like that, driving slowly and hoping that my suspension wouldn't collapse. It didn't. Fixed it at a friends house, who had better tools than me. A year later, my buddy does the same thing while working on his acura. He asked me if it would be OK to drive on just a few threads and i advised that as long as he drove carefully, it should be OK. At least it was for me. Then his suspension collapsed a few blocks away from his house, ruining several other expensive parts !! The fender got it bad. -
yup nissandoms is right. unless the shock is meant to be run upside down, (some are meant to do it) it messes with the valving and will give you a harsh and unsafe ride.

LockRight lockers coming soon for the 33-spline 98-04 nissans
FUELER replied to FUELER's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
ya when they say 98-04 i think its because the hardbody ended in 97 and the frontier came out in 98. but this locker will fit 96-04 pathfinder / qx4. -

old slow is right. the 4 in backspacing is a good neutral #.... 4.25 tucks in like stock and 3.5-3.75 is wide stance. any less than 3.5" is too little
-
ive gotten that code like once or twice... reset it and it shouldnt come back for a looong time
-
the leather seats in nissans are just leather covers held on very tight with springs the covers can be replaced with dealer parts ($200 for a set) makes leather repair a stupid idea, the cheapest i found to fix a crack in leather was $125

A little help would be greatly appreciated.

how much for auto transmission / transfer case replacement
FUELER replied to FUELER's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
my transfer case was already toast before the auto tranny blew out so i plan on having it all done at once.... -
nothing wrong with used parts. Most junkyards give a 90 day warranty. If it is going to fail then it will do so within the first few days. If its still running fine after 90 days then you will be fine. That price is too much. I was just quoted $1500 for junkyard replacement of transmission AND transfer case.... and i thought THAT was a lot!! $1500 us = $1800 au

my automatic and I hear a slight click near
FUELER replied to suzonka's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
thats the shift lock solenoid doing its job like its supposed to. Notice that when you dont step on the brake, you cannot get the shifter out of Park. Step on the break just enough to hear the audible click, now you can move the shifter into any gear you like. note that this is for PARK only, the shifter does not lock in any other position -
the springs will settle after a few months so dont worry. if its still a problem, you can drill the holes out a little bit but i'd wait for the springs to settle before i did that
-
my only regret is that i didnt wait and buy it for less (worth only 1/3 of that price today)

Great idea for a thread!! Heres mine in 2004: the replies were great - runnerman said that $14,000 for a 2000 Pathfinder was a spectacular deal!! HAHA! Also, i spent that 13,5 on my QX4 and ive never looked back! 5 years later i still love this thing as much as i did on day 1. What a great purchase!!

wow this thread went ape @!*%. im with thecrow - i think the R50 is better than WD when speed is essential simply because the WD is so slow with the 3.0.... but the WD is better for lifting / modding as it sits on a frame.... Also, H3 is surprisingly good offroad. Ive driven one. Ive also been pulled out of a ditch by one. The only thing i dont like is that its fulltime 4wd. 2WD is not an option in the H3.

Nissan's original Pathfinder was introduced in 1985, long before sport utilities became fashionable. The model was a 2-door vehicle based on the 4-wheel-drive pickup, and was praised for its off-road abilities. Changes in U.S. vehicle import laws spurred the evolution of the Pathfinder into a 4-door in 1990. In mid-1999 Pathfinder assumed its present form. No longer truck-based, Pathfinder features a unique MonoFrame construction that delivers a smoother, quieter ride. The 2001 Pathfinder went on sale in March 2000. The 2001 Pathfinder continues with the styling it received midway through the 1999 model year, but features a piece of crap 3.5-liter DOHC V6 that likes to let screws loose and eventually grenade itself, and a restyled rice rocket instrument panel. Don't forget about the shift flare problems with this new powerplant. A navigation system, a rear entertainment system, an in-dash 6-disc CD changer and an All-Mode AWD System are now available on certain models.

|I agree with Alex - the factory service manual is what you want. The same info a Nissan / Infiniti dealership uses. Alex, you don't need to upload them - most years already available for free download courtesy of NICO Club: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/pathfinder/

Admitting you're an asshole is the first step.
