So what is on the offroad package that the average R50 in your year doesnt have? I havent seen a lot of 99.5+ pathy's with the rear tire carrier, however I have seen a few. If you want bragging rights because your truck can go offroad, prove it - take that baby offroad and have fun. Of course do that because you want to, and do it smartly (because smartly is a word...) and not just to show off. I have a plain ol XE, but I love my truck - I dont care that it doesnt have all the toys. I prove it's offroad capable by taking it on the trails & keeping up with the Xterras & jeeps we wheel with. That said, you have a nice looking truck, and if you're happy with it, that's what matters. You can make it rare yourself, by making it to suit you. Start with a nicely scented air freshener!

Looks wise, they're pretty clean looking, I find the BFG AT K/O's look like a more aggressive tire.... but looks are not everything. My hubby has a set of the BFG's on his Xterra, and had no issues with them, but has however upgraded to Procomp Xterrains for hitting the trails. I have the Revos, and love them. Been wheeling with them since April, and have had no issues. I've wheeled with guys that have mudders on, and had no more difficulties than they have, and in fact in some places was able to get out easier, as the AT's don't dig holes like MT's can. I've been able to keep up, and even show up that Xterra on Xterrains... I was considering a set of MT's for next year and keeping my revos for onroad & winter, but after the last weekend of wheeling have decided until it becomes a case that I cant keep up with 'the big boys' the Revos are staying... I'd recommend the Revos, however I cannot give you a good comparison of the two, as I, personally, haven't wheeled with the BFG's.

yup... check out that link I posted above - other people have posted their set up there... I have the Uniden 520 pro, I liked it because its small. Also a lot of people in our club have them, as did my hubby, so I knew it worked well... info here (priced are cdn) We also installed an external speaker so it's easier to hear (esp as mine is in the dash), and an external PA, because, well, it's fun! haha For the antenna we went with a K40, with the magnamount & quick disconnect, so I can easily take it off (garages & whatnot)...

My excuses: Need it for offroading - we usually chat on the trail, point out obstacles, ask for a spot, general communication. CB is much better than the FRS's, as they have better range, and in our case most people in the club had CB's so it was easier... Club get togethers... I had a handheld cb for a while, but found it didn't get very good range, finally I gave in last year when we did the SOXC trip up to Manitoulin and got a proper one installed in the pathy. Our club is pretty chatty on the CB, so it helps the time pass by, plus its good if someone needs to stop, to let the convoy know when to turn, or that someone didn't make a light... Now that I've had it - I've been thankful to have it on the drive home... When we're not on a club event, I usually leave it on the trucker channel (19), usually on low. But I have found it useful when traffic is heavy, or blocked, so I can reroute and find the easier lanes/way home. Also, quite often traffic in the opposite direction will warn you of upcoming traffic problems, so if need be you can get off the highway & reroute. I've also learned a few new words & heard some interesting conversations on 19. How much is it?? Have you seen the Champion 8000lb winch from Princess Auto - it runs about $389. Much better use of your money, and much better rated for your truck!

I found the first few times I put it into 4 lo it wasnt very graceful... I guess I was a bit nervous about doing it wrong... just make sure it's in neutral, and make sure you have it all the way in gear in one easy pull... If youre really uncomfortable with it - take it to the dealer (assuming you got it from a dealer) and have them have a look - and maybe show you how to do it...

Hey there - welcome to the board!! to go to 4-lo: I stop the truck, put it into neutral, pull the shift back to 4 hi & then neutral, then push & pull down to 4low... easy peasy!!

Are you worried about your K40? I have one, on the magnamount on the roof, and it's been beatin on by trees & branches, and drive thru overhangs (click! click! click! click! click! click! fwung!) Ive had no problems. we had a Firestik on the Xterra, on the front bumber - on a spring mount to help with flex in case of hits... If I remember correctly - we ended up taking the spring off - as the antenna swayed too much (I think it was a 6' antenna) and it was fine with branch hits & whatnot.

How long ago did you do that? We were looking into doing that (well, the hubby was - must be a male **POWER** thing... heh) but were told the Uniden 520 wont last long if you boost it.

I think Ive read the same - and that was within the past day or so... I have no idea where I was when I found that... (sorry - chronic CRS..cant remember shi...) I'd like the round bars too - like the shrockworks sliders for the X, but shrockworks isnt interested in the R50's. I'll likely end up with square... oh well, beats smashing up my rocker panels!!

actually - you made two mistakes - you really need to take those stock rails off before you head offroad... as you have prooved - they are not strong enough for anything you might hit - and they can cause more harm than good... that said - if youre interested in offroad rock sliders - there is one guy that makes & sells them for our trucks... http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/RockSliderZ.shtml I have heard nothing bad about his product. I plan to have a set made (by a friend) for my pathy over the winter...

ok, my turn for a question... I didnt think I had to back up to disengage the hubs, as on the R50 they are always engaged. (I might be using the word "engaged" wrong... but I cant think of another word) ok, did a search - this is what I am refering to (in bold): In comparison, the Xterra does not have full time hubs - and they have to be engaged & disengaged, hence my Xterra friends have to back up when we hit the roads again... ?? Am I way off base here?
