Hi Todd, welcome to NPORA! If it is the resistor, I have heard that they are super simple to replace (Its a common problem on the Xterras - my hubby has one) so fear not! Although because yours goes on & off with heat & bumps... I wonder if you lave a loose connection somewhere?? I'm sure others will chime in and give you some advice!

My old truck was a distant relative of the Ranger... as the Mazda PU's now are only a rebadged Ford.... I loved my Mazda and wanted another one when I was shopping, but it wasnt practical for me... they used to be rated quite well here, but have gone downhill in recent years... What year is it?

I dont know crap about stereos, I might be able to spot one in a crowd... check wires for back speakers into the amp? fuses??

*covers eyes & ears* you didnt say R50 and the *R* word in the same sentence did you? I havent heard of rust issues, but maybe because our trucks are that much newer?? The only thing I remember off have to look out for on the R50 is the front struts - they have a tendency to go - mine had to be replaced when I bought it...

Welcome back... Ive had my CB for over a year and never had it tuned... suppose it couldnt hurt to get it done, but Ive never had issues with reception. Although, I'm not sure how much of that is dependant on the unit, the antenna and the placement of the antenna ???

Give me one of each generation and I'll do my best to make an educated decision.

looks like you need to stay away from drunk people... lol for the gum, I know using ice to freeze it can help you get rid of the majority of it - try a search online on "how to remove gum" there's usually a pile of info for things like that...

ohh I have some of those toys too trainman... again, my 99.5 XE rear cargo cover - yup AT with AllMode transfer case - manual Tcase (if that's what you call it?? NOT the switch) tilt steering - yup fully adjustable (manual) drivers seat - nope tinted windows - I assume the tint is stock step rails - nope remote door locking/unlocking with front windows down from the remote - yes, but no windows alarm, interior lights that come on when the doors are unlocked and fade out - yup auto headlights - yup and 3 powerpoints - inside power jacks I assume? I have 2
