exactly what happened with my 88. but i already knew she puked a rod when i bought her. i say $100 it's the timing belt.

tough trucks. treat her well and pamper her and she'll last long enough to see you through.

if the position (5 o'clock) is the only thing stopping your pathy running good. then go ahead and tighten it until the belt is correct tension (ignore 5 o'clock) and go with it. i have never paid attention to having the tensioner exactly as they say...... i have found all trucks are different, and i want my belt tension right, so i will do whatever it takes to achieve that.

i have never bothered to see where my allen wrench is. i adjust the belt until it's the proper tension..... question. HOW did he manage to install "the wrong h2o pump?"... just curious...... also, when you're tightening the t belt is anything else moving around? do oyu have the cam sprocket marks int he correct position?

i've always used the prestone 170 t'stats and had very good results with them.

i understand your reasoning there fer sure and they're illegal here in CA.... well, you can put them ON, but you won't pass smog with it.

weird, i definitely noticed a difference...... and the longer time goes on, the more i KNOW when it's dirty lol. i cleaned mini's last week n she's got her zoom zoom back...... i swear by em..... different strokes fer different folks i guess.

just an FYI. my XE (5 spd) & my SE (auto) Pathy's BOTH have LSD. it was not just in SE models and like GG said, I wheel hills, rock, mud, water and fire roads..... mini was fun but hard work in places workin the clutch allt he time. king i can concentrate more on what i'm doing, hang my head out the window and not worry about ym foot slipping off the clutch (yeah, it happened a couple times lol)

mini me has always been like that........ specially when cold........ she's ok warmed up............ i have checked her trans n everything is fine. think this is just a "thing" these kids have........... does it shift easier if you take yer foot off the clutch n "do it again" to get 1st?

i can't decide between manual and auto off road. i love them both. for different reasons...... as for on-road, i LOVE driving my 5 speed.... (except in traffic).... as for gas mileage, even with all his lift, i get about the same mileage as my hardly lifted 5 speed, maybe cuz i don't drive the big truck hard? and i drive my 5 spd a bit "harder" (but still not HARD)....... if you sit in traffic a lot, go auto... seriously..... lol

correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the KA engine was only in the pick up trucks, and you DO have a VG engine.
