  1. The burnt smell could be residual from the old fluid. It's pretty hard to completely flush the tranny and 1 qt of the old stuff remaining could easily make the new fluid smell. Yes, normally tranny fluid smells slightly sweetish. OR Your radiator could be clogged and you are burning the new fluid as the tranny overheats. If you are worried about the tranny, put on a tranny cooler or park it until the summer months and then put on a tranny cooler. It really is not hard or expensive at all. Especially when compared to the price of a tranny. B
  2. The first was for Pezzy, the second for you... Good point about upgrading the steering. I still feel that gaining clearance for large tires is easier and you have more options with a frame and chassis set up though. But hey, that's why it's called customizing... B
  3. OG has a very good point... Do you plan to need 4wd or is 2wd good enough for your use? If not, consider looking around for a 4wd (and lower milage) with a blown motor. Swap your motor into it and whatever parts are better and wind up with a solid truck for not a lot of $... B
  4. Sorry, didn't see your previous problem, but I'm not sure I could have helped... Congrats on getting it all back together and it working right. You know what I mean... We'll be expecting those pictures... B
  5. No suprise. Clean your ears and listen... That is my point... You can get 33" tires on a wd21 with about $500 for parts and can easily go bigger from there if you are willing to trim. It is a bit harder/more expensive for the R50s, that's all. Hell, I can put 38s on a Honda Civic if you foot the bill... B
  6. And with most vacuum valves, the vehicle won't run the same with plugged lines as opposed to the valve connected and functioning... B
  7. Panama... And I'm guessing 8'+ walls. Yeah, we have it easy... B
  8. Actually, I believe he meant that aftermarket bumpers are a good investment since the stock ones are about as useful as having a baking tray mounted up front... B
  9. Ahh, ok. Yes, a different approach is more valid now... Yes, please do start your own thread!! B
  10. I'm afraid you bought the wrong model for big tires... B
  11. Like he said... I used a cut off wheel in a dremel to get the folded tab nuts off of a guys tranny shaft. Impressed him that I never touched the shaft threads... B
  12. Can't argue with that... Hopefully there isn't anything really odd/damaged with yours, but honestly, these things run quite a long time and can stand a fair amount of abuse. If it as you said and you only need it for a few months, just drive it and relax. B
  13. That is my guess. I have never had the desire to run mine until it ran out of gas to test it. I hope I don't pay when the zombies come... B
  14. Yes. That is my guess but do not discount 87pathy's guess either as it may be a contributor or the issue its self. Easy enough to check. It is hard to diagnose online, we can only suggest and recommend from personal experience and mechanical knowledge... B
  15. I fill up at 1/4 tank, but the last time I filled up was 13 gallons and I have never put more than 17 gallons in when it was on empty. B
  16. Don't the 2wd have a different (deeper) oil pan?? Personally, I drain the oil, change the filter and put in 3 qts, and then top it off after running the motor. With the oil filter relocation kit, I find 4qts perfect in a 95 4wd... B

    JGC lift

/\ Absolutely. Good point! Thanks, I forgot to mention that... B

    CV axle

Maybe, maybe not. It depends how rusted the bolts are and if it has ever been off... B

    JGC lift

Due to different tire sizes and different amounts of sag, I can't tell you what 'stock' is. Basically, you have bump stops that limit travel. If you crank it up until the bump stop is contacting, you will have a crappy ride and will probably have ball joint and CV axle problems. I'd guess most people leave .5-1" gap to the bump stop. Yes, you should have enough adjustment to level the truck with JGC springs. Yes, you can use the stock shocks but they limit downward flex, especially if you have removed the rear sway bar. B
  20. If you can feel it in the pedal, which one? B
  21. IIRC 2" is fine for stock and there is a split opinion on 2.25" or 2.5" if you have headers, high flow cat, 'performance' muffler, etc. I plan to run 2.25" with the 3 mods... B
  22. Dammit MZ, buy a mirror-onna-stick, find the geyser and get back to us!! B

    CV axle

Ok, those should be the CV bearings, a few large spherical ones. Pull the truck out, disengage the hubs and put the transfer case in 2wd and you should be fine. If you need 4wd low for the rears to get out of the woods, you will have to remove the CVs or hack saw them off at the front differential. B
  24. No worries Bud. I still post the occasional question and get a searched link or whatever... Seriously, I don't know first hand nor do I remember reading enough... B
