  1. dont connect the green ac wire to anything if you dont have ac
  2. yeah, the bushings take a long time cos you have to burn stuff out, and pretty much have to take everything off to get to the LCA bushings. ill take pics of it when i do the passenger side tomorrow. on a plus though I got the Rancho UCAs in and they look sweet!!
  3. i dont have a vice. makes it difficult to hold things in place and wrench on them.
  4. i know i know....at least it will be done for another 20 years I had to take the whole hub off to get the lowers off. that sucka is heavy. i would agree that the bushings are more difficult
  5. yeah I know you unscrew them, lol. They are seized on there though. may as well get new ones if everything else is new too.
  6. how the heck did you get the bolts on the LCA to come loose? I've used breaker bars, impact, pb blaster, shouting at it....and they just wont break free.
  7. actually, im just going to go get new ones. lol
  8. ive got it back on, clamping it overnight seemed to help, but it was brute force that really got it into place. im having second thoughts about doing the passenger side....
  9. how do i get the tie rods off the tie rod sleeve? i searched and didnt find anything
  10. ha! youd think i'd be worthy with the amount of cash I've spent on her. OH YEAH! i had forgotten about that tip from you. Thx
  11. im gonna clamp it overnight, but if that doesnt work what do i do? burn the new one out and get another?
  12. why does nothing ever work for me? I got the bushings in, but the rear facing one wont slide in all the way. I've hammered on it, I've clamped it, but it is sticking out just enough where the LCA wont go back on. the truck seems to be fighting me every time I do anything to it. part of me wonders why i even bother with it.
  13. jeez, this is taking forever. I only just got the drivers side all burned out. Damn that formula 5 stuff is STICKY!!!!! was hoping to get both sides done today, but doesnt look like thats happening.
  14. well....i have to take the t-bars out for the tranny drop, so may as well right. lol. Cool, cutting out is safer than burning out. can do will do. my passenger side looks all mangled, so i figure Id better do them. tip 1: release the tension on the t-bars before you disconnect sway bar, shocks etc. lol. i had bushings shoot everywhere when the nut for the shock finally released..it was the only thing holding the lower arm up.
  15. I am doing my UCA swap, shocks, bushings, ball joints, and tie rods this week (along with head gasket and transmission pull). Have got most of the front disassembled, but before I go deeper into this than i already have.... Should I replace my lower control arm bushings? I've read that this is very very difficult and that you have to burn them out of the truck. Is it worth it to do? Everything else is or will be energy suspension

i guess what im worried about is spending a bunch of money getting the seals all fixed on this one and then some internal mechanism fails or something.

yep, i do have the FSM. So you are not suggesting a full rebuild - just a seal replacement overhaul?

Your 2 cents are welcome any time! Honestly no, i have never had a problem with my transmission before. A couple of weeks ago after I did the electric fan change over it was revving up slightly at steady speeds, and then would drop back down. I think it wasnt getting enough juice as my alt was going out, and it stopped after I stopped using the A/C. After that I did notice that it was exceptionally hot underneath the parking brake lever though. Like almost scalding hot. (Now the seal is leaking the temp feels normal) It still shifts fine now even with the leak. It does have an aftermarket cooler and has been regularly flushed and filled. I was under the impression that the auto's have a habit of grenading, and that planetary gears and stuff go out, and that manuals are a lot more reliable. Is it just the seals and the clutch plates that go bad? I would like to spend less than a grand total honestly, and I really would like it done sometime soon. Do you think I could rebuild it myself, or do you suggest taking it to a pro? And should I install that "shift kit" that 88 had written about? or is that basically included in those overhaul kits?

ok. I'm pretty sure I want to do a manual swap. That is if they definitely are more reliable. If I can get away with it for a little while though I'm going to try adding some seal swelling stuff - probably the lucas oil tranny treatment stuff - to make her drivable at least while i get parts etc. (cant shop around If i cant get anywhere). is the standard gearbox really a better option?
  22. nope, some have a smaller tank, 17gal, I believe. Yeah, 215 seems low. Even with my problems Im still getting 300+, about 16-17mpg. Used to get 360 or so, filling up aroun 19 gallons. comes to just under 19mpg. Maybe look into the oxygen sensor being bad?

oh, ok. and I'm 4x4, so I have to find a 4x4 tranny too right? or do the ones out of 2x4 work too?
  24. beastpath

    OH NO!

why would I need to get the flywheel machined?
