    Grrrrrrr...

yeah bernard, i've had the same interstate battery since i picked up the truck about 4 years ago. When it's idling, the interior lights will sometimes flicker or not stay at a certain brightess. I should see how much juice the battery is pushing. The water levels are good in it, but I haven't tested the flow.
  3. yeah, the chilkoot is available from 96 up. It's nicely equipped and a decent price. Just remember that the more $hit you have on your tk, the more $hit that can go wrong with it.
  4. Be very careful with rust. It's not a desireable thing to have on any potential car regardless of price. If you don't mind the work, you can do this: unneccessary work that manifold might cost big bucks, depending on many things. A test drive would also be in order, but the rust only gets worse and worse depending on your climate, unless you give it a decent amount of time/attention. If there are other choices in your area, I would pass on that one. Here's a spread of 95's in my area for comparison of price: here This one looked really good and still kinda young in terms of milage: here
  5. they work really nice too. The replacement rotors were 40 bucks a piece, pads were 26. Easy fix too. edit- they are a little piggy in terms of weight.
  6. My SE came equipped with tape/cd player, heated leather seats, heated mirrors, 31" tires, LSD, fender flares, rear tire carrier, chrome bumpers + mirrors among other accents , adjustable shocks, factory brushbar (now bent to rat $hit), ac, fender flares, metallic paint, sunroof, 15" alloys, tranny cooler *sigh* that's all i can think of at the moment....
  7. welcome franco, I found this a really helpful little article too: first time buyer
  8. it could also be the dust guard attached to the back of the caliper. They tend to get bent and rusty. Mine were rubbing against the edge of the rotor making a similar sound.
  9. No, no the 96 and up models make great trucks for exploring, even in stock form. Every truck will benefit from better tires if you want to get into some mud and stuff with the stock setup. The 96-98's can be lifted with new coils and shocks. They should be able to accept a 33' tire with a few modifications. Trialsin got a good deal on some new coils and shocks installed. YOu can read about it and ask him questions from here: Coils + shock upgrade If you are looking to build a crazy offroad machine, I would choose a WD21 (87-95) over an R50 (96 and up, i believe) Just spend some time poking around the site and you can see some great examples of lifted trucks. Mookie's, 88pathoffroad's and Mr. Jim's are all examples of sweet WD21's. Squam1's truck is a nice R50 too
  10. Yeah, i looked at 4 runners when i was buying my truck too. I just found them to be a little bit too pricey. I havent had much trouble with my truck besides the usual stuff like ball joints, brakes etc. The parts have been really cheap for them, except when you get into specialty stuff like o2 sensors and junk. As for reliability, any car you get can be a lemon unless you look after them. Clearance? There are so many different ways to get some extra height out of 87-95's. These trucks will readily accept a 31' tire with no modifications to the suspension. The torsion bar front suspension is really easy to adjust to different heights according to where you drive it most. The rear end can be lifted for as cheap as you can find some Jeep Grand Cherokee coils in the wrecking yard. The price of 87-95's has really come down in my neck of the woods. All in all, they make an excellent SUV for less cash than most imports. The newer versions 96 and up, feature a unibody construction which gives it a much smoother car-like ride. They have a larger engine, but lack the offroad potential of the 87-95 models. I like the 4runners too, but i'll stick with these trucks.
  11. I hope your into snowboarding! Holiday Valley kicks arse! And Whiteface is pretty sweet. welcome

    Grrrrrrr...

yeah, i had to unplug the whole thing to get my old cassette deck out. I swapped it with the one out of my older brother's truck but the bastard never got the stock cd player with his. Just a little tray to put your smokes under the radio

    Grrrrrrr...

hmmm it only began doing this a couple of days ago... maybe i'll put it all back together and just wait and see what happens. Those decks are pretty rare in the scrapyards, as i've only been able to find 2 pathys within an hour's drive from home.. thanks for the help guys

    Grrrrrrr...

I just got the tape deck working in my '95, now the cd player has gone kaput. It still accepts a disc, but it constantly searches for a place to start reading it, until it finally gets fed up and spits it back out. The display remains blank the whole time it's doing this. I shot some compressed air in there to get all the dust out and topped that off with one of those cleaning disc type thingies which the player promptly spit out too. I really want to keep this head unit as I have ALOT of music on both tapes and CD's. I've got the stock unit which has the radio/tape on top and the CD player on the bottom. Anyone have any ideas?
  16. yep, they would have made me pay for mine, but after I looked through the repair history when i bought it, I learned that my truck had a new engine, including manifolds installed on in within 20 000 kms of use. The common leak on the manifolds was acutally the between the flanges on the crosspipe and manifold. The crosspipe had rusted out because of pressure on it due to broken hangars. You might want to check for rust damage underneath your driver's side floorboard. Damaged exhaust hangers will lead the pipe very close to the body underneath your feet, which causes premature rust if you don't repair the hangars!
  17. then leave your old one in there. That's the easiest thing to do. I cant beleive how many people on thsi board seem to be upset over how much power these trucks have. My mom has a 2001 and that thing is a rocket! Dusted many-a-civic around town here. As for my 95, hey IT'S A TRUCK, not a race car. It has enough power to pull my boat, throw up a decent roost in the mud, and scoot across a busy intersection -i'm more than delighted with it. Mind you, i wouldn't argue with a diesel, but we live in North America so tough bananas. If you wan't some more power, go buy an american SUV and have fun fixing it all the time

    Brake Noise

I would keep the shims on. They spread the pressure out over the pads, and prevent the whole mess from sticking together by heat. These brakes automatically adjust themselves to different thicknesses of brakepads.
  19. dude, resize those pics, they are huge 640x480 is good enough
  20. welcome! I went from a miata (not as bad as you think in the snow) to a 95 Pathfinder. All i've done now is spend more money on stuff to fill it up and tow around with it.
  21. welcome to the forums post some pics of your rig!
  22. stock. I like being able to listen to my old tapes and new cd's
  23. i dunno, but mine gets the same problems after it warms up. I'm going to install a grounding kit tommorrw and see if that helps it out at all.
