I've drowned only one alternator in 22 years of owning my '86 (Z24) and it was a river crossing the car really had no right doing

My one tip is to make sure you can get the fill plug loose before draining the oil. -

Finally got this engine built New pistons, Rings, Bearings, Timing Chain, guides, tensioner, Water pump, clutch, plugs, leads, oil pump First Start on Thursday, Yesterday I took it around the block, got a heat cycle through it then retorqued the head, set valve clearances and dialled the timing in. It sounds and feels great! Ready for the next 500,000 hopefully!! -
I've had a heavy duty clutch in mine for 20 years, and I am just rebuilding my engine as we speak. I am opting for a stock replacement clutch as the HD gives a heavy pedal, and as I get a bit older, I am ending up with a sore knee if I am in heavy traffic. The factory clutch is more than adequate unless you treat the car with contempt.

Yeah, I've pulled the trans to do it before, it is a whole ordeal, plus I fitted a reconditioned trans a few years ago, not in a hurry to remove it again! -

Still waiting for my pistons and rods, but decided to lift the old lump out. Last time, I pulled the trans, this time I thought I'd try the method of removing the front diff. Way easier than dropping the trans, but I will be honest - I am getting too old for any of this -

Crank and new main bearings in the big Z24 over the weekend, main bearing clearances and thrust all measured up great. Pistons, rings and new clutch turned up last night I just need to get the pistons pressed on and then I am ready to assemble. Can't wait to have my old girl going again! -
Plenty of info on TD27s on the Aussie facebook groups, a lot of us are TD nuts, they will be able to give you all the measurements and info you might need. There is a group 'TD27 Torque' which will have plenty of help.

Finally ordered the last of the engine parts today, time flies and I miss driving this thing more than I thought I would. I went camping over the Xmas break in my D22, it felt like such a betrayal after all these years! -

So, I pulled the original Z24 out from under my bench. This was a runner, but smokey when I swapped it almost 20 years ago. One piston (#3) had bad rings and ring lands. Bores however, cleaned up nicely with a hone. Waiting for parts now. Will get new pistons, rings, bearings, timing chain/tensioners, oil pump. Have a reco head here on the shelf. The KA24DE swap can wait for now. -

That didn't exactly go as planned. Took her out Saturday and had a big end bearing or gudgeon pin failure, so time for a rebuild or heart transplant -

This car just keeps on enduring. It's hardly been used since our son was born 18 months ago, so I listed it for sale. (I have a dual cab D22 now) My wife found out and told me I had to keep it, and in hindsight I see that she knew I wasn't ready to move her on. So, the old girl gets another reprieve. I am going to make a more concentrated effort to use and enjoy her, as well as fix a few of the small niggles that I have allowed to creep in. -
Great looking old girl

4WD INDICATOR light, not warning light
FirstGenFreak replied to chigen's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
It's the microswitch on the side of the transmission, or the circuits leading to it. Mine is on permanently because of the same issues, I have a new switch and plug, just haven't got around to changing it out. -
