  1. Let us know how it goes! Maybe a step by step write up with photos!
  2. It rained last night, off and on today, and we had thunderstorms this evening. I just went and checked and everything is bone dry! I left all four windows cracked to where they just barely were covered by the bottom of the visor. Success all around!
  3. That's 1.5" over stock? So if I'm I'm sagging 2" from original height it would give me 3.5" of lift from where I am today?
  4. Here's a great write up from days past:
  5. It doesn't look like this thread got much traction, but I'm investigating it as well. I've read the rear diff breather hose needs to be extended as it's rather short. However, the front diff, t-case, and tranny run into hard lines that go up the firewall - that's what I've read anyway. I haven't crawled under yet. I was reading that on a Toyota Landcruiser the diff air valves have a flapper that closes when it goes into water or something. The problem with this is that when the breather valve closes it pulls the air/water in through the axle seals causing damage. Are Nissan breather valves the same? Also, I read that the D22 snorkels fit the R50 well. Anyone know more?
  6. REVIEW: I've had the visors in for a little while now and they're still holding up strong. Today I drove to work, ran errands, and drove home and more errands after work. I drove on the interstate and side roads. With the windows cracked but still within the visors there was good airflow to keep me a little cool, but not enough that I felt like I was in a wind tunnel. There is no additional road noise from the visors. It kept the car significantly cooler. I was actually able to do all my driving today without breaking a sweat. It is supposed to rain tonight so I've parked outside and left the windows cracked. We'll see what happens!
  7. Not to hi-jack, it could be for TroyButler too. If you went with springs that provide a 2" lift you shouldn't need to do any other modifications such as lengthen brake lines, steering shaft, etc. If the answer is true, then I assume a 1" spacer is easier.
  8. I put all my floor mats after the big shampooing last week. Shopping for some tires tomorrow.
  9. I fixed a broken headlight. I also shopped around for an HID conversion kit.
  10. Yeah. I watched a video comparing Halogen, HID, and LED. Those LED bulbs were all over the place, but they did appear to illuminate the road further but they weren't bright. The Halogens were bright and the HIDs were at least as bright.
  11. How did you polish the plenum? That looks fantastic. You could do a thread on detailing engines. That looks great.
  12. Hey! Can you message me? I have a question for you.
  13. I replaced the gas struts on the rear glass with a set I had in the garage from the JY. I'm sure they worked fine at the JY or I wouldn't have got them. Well, they don't work anymore. Oh well.
  14. I'm just seeing your post on headlights. Can you tell me how your Amazon bulbs and harness are holding up?
  15. Nice setup, looks like we're of the same mindset. What kind of range to you get this your radio?
  16. cool project. Does it weigh much?
  17. Well, I did a little measuring around in the cab of my R50 and it appears that I don't have much space available for installation so I'm looking at the Cobra 75WXST and the Midland 75-822. They are much more expensive than other models I was looking at, but provide the features and clean install I'm interested in. Anyone have experience with them? Looks like the only feature I'd lose is PA. But, on the smaller boxes I was looking at I didn't have scan and weather. I was thinking of a 4' fire stick mounted from the rear hatch somehow.
  18. Leaning toward a Uniden 520XL. Looks like it may be small enough to mount in the center armrest or in the little cubby hole in front of the shifters. The 520 has most features except scan and sideband, but I can get a new one with a magnetic antenna for $50 and be in business quickly.
  19. After a lot of deliberation I pulled the trigger and ordered a 42" straight light bar. I decided that the lines of the truck are more straight than curved, from the hood, to the windshield line, to the roof rack bars, and everything. It should be here next week and I can begin my installation.
  20. I've owned my QX4 for 18 years or so and it has gone from our best, primary vehicle, to the daily driver, and on down the line to eventually sitting on the edge of the driveway being neglected for several years. It has been a long distance driver from Tennessee to North Carolina to Texas to Miami, Florida and lots of places in between. It's hauled children and all the things that go with them, hunting camp, camping, and off roading, and trash and building supplies. I've eaten in it. I've slept in it. In other words it's been heavily used. Over the years despite trying to keep it clean it collected lots of stains and such in the carpet. Now I'm giving it some TLC and it's time to clean the carpet and get that musty smell out. I may not know how to lift the suspension or do some heavy duty engine repair, but cleaning is right up my ally! Shampooing the carpet is a simple afternoon project with a few cans of carpet cleaner, a brush, some old towels, and lots of elbow grease. I've been doing this same approach for over 30 years and it is tried and true. You will need some foaming carpet cleaner and lots of it. I used three cans of Resolve High Traffic Carpet Foam, about $10. Start by vacuuming all the loose dirt and such from the carpet. It's hard to see in the photo, but overall this carpet is a little dingy and there are lots of little spots from various things. Then spray generous amounts of carpet foam over the area. Next I use a small brush and scrub the carpet aggressively. I use my hand and fingernails for small places the brush can't reach into. They suds and foam will disappear, but you're not done. After you've scrubbed it, use a clean towel and rub all over to get the dirty foam out of the carpet. You'll see it come up on the towel and know you're cleaning things. Finally step back and review the spot you've cleaned. If you see any spots you've missed, hit them again. I'm aggressive on the regular carpet, but the doors and other more delicate areas I only use my hand and rub. If there's a bad spot maybe scratch it. Don't forget under the seats Bad spots should work, but may require lots and lots and lots of repeated attempts. (This was a broken ink pen and it's been there for over 10 years.) This was the only spot I didn't get out, but it is better. I ran out of Resolve. I didn't take a lot of before photos, but if you look closely at the seat belts you can get an idea of how it looked under those seats. I've got to go back and clean the seat belts. I use the same techniques on the floor mats. I go back over it with the vacuum cleaner again after it dries. Everything looks and smells wonderful in the car now. I think I'll get me some good deep dish rubber mats now that it's all clean.
  21. It appears that there is a small trick for installing the rear visors. I think this solved my problem. This was not in my version of instructions.
  22. Nice job man. I like the way it retains the stock bumper. I have a 98 QX and like keeping things sorta low key. Did you weld the bars to the frame or bolt them?
