I've never greased mine. If I have zerk fittings I have no idea where they are.

4x4 light came on all of a sudden
AlabamaDan replied to AlabamaDan's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
It came on today at lunch when I was running errands. I turned the car off and back on, no more light. So odd. I wonder if the wheel spin and little bit of dirt - maybe it engaged and somehow bound up a little and it needs to spin again to straighten out. (I know next to nothing about how the 4WD system works, but I think I read something about this.) -
So when people say "tap into" a wire, how exactly do y'all do that? You could use vampire clips I guess. You could strip a little wire back and solder on another wire there and then shrink wrap. You could find the connector and stick two wires in there with a new connector. Maybe another option? Also, PathyDude take some pics along the way. Can't wait to see it.

Could you tap into the dome light enough to trigger a relay? I like the idea. I was thinking you could run some led light strips under the running boards, or just under the body. If you tapped into the dome light, would they come on anytime you turned on the dome light? I'

I think it's important to state that I never had any issues driving... -
There was a bit more traffic Saturday, but I don't think it was local. Is it possible that I was picking up someone from Pittsburg all the way down South?

I would assume it has something on the inside of the quarter panel for reinforcement don't forget to get that. I know I'd love to have that on my QX4, I think it looks so cool.

interesting ideas. I'm in to follow. Where do the rock lights go, wheel well?

4x4 light came on all of a sudden
AlabamaDan replied to AlabamaDan's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Well, I drove it around today to lunch, around the lake spillway, and to pick up and tree and back home. The light never came back on. It must have self healed? Ironically, just doing the things I did today were almost the steps on that list. -
This is about the only time wifey rides in the Quey anymore

1998 QX4 -
My 4x4 dummy light came on. The one on the left side of the instrument panel. What's that mean? Everything has been working perfectly. Last week I took it out for a little light trail riding with no problems. Today I was driving down an old driveway that someone had just dumped LOTS of gravel on and as I was backing up I slowly and barely spun a tire in 2WD. So I flipped it to auto after coming to a stop. Now this 4x4 light is on and I'm nervous. Help!

Okay. I have heated mirrors too. It's a rainy chilly day here and I turned on the rear defog. As I parked the car and was walking in, I turned back and checked the mirrors. They were warm and dry. So it heats them up too. Cool.

So if I run a new power sock with it's own dedicated ground and hot wire that should help?

Radio came last night. I put the magnetic mount right on the center of the roof and just to get it going I ran the cable through the window. With the vent visor rain can't get it. Works for testing. The features I liked about this besides the obvious ease of installation, small size, and portability are the weather feature and scan, which work great. I drove around for about an hour today trying to hail someone on C19 with no luck. I did hear one guy on C6, but I don't think he could hear me. He was loud and clear and preaching. I figure he's some guy on his powerful home base station. Other than that it was quiet. I thought when I got close to the interstate I'd at least hear something. I am getting some interference from the Q's electrical system. Turning on the radio immediately causes interference and I can't squelch it out. Wipers are the same.

Awesome. I'll write more later, but thank you. -
Installing analog clock 1st Gen QX4

Interested in doing this, but nervous about cutting my panel. -
I drove a Tesla a few weeks back and tested out the self driving mode. It is freaky and so odd to not be driving but sitting behind the wheel. I won't say that is would be very cool on boring interstate trips from one city to the other. I love driving, but long boring interstate drives suck. I couldn't find the one for a 1998 QX4/Pathfinder. I think it is standard and there have always been basic and advanced. My 1973 Ford originally had a speedo, fuel gauge, and a temp gauge. However, there was an option for a rally gauge kit that had everything that I switched to. A car that's like a living room, you mean a Lexus?

Hey y'all! I'm planning to wire some additional 12v sockets in my rig. I'm not an electrical engineer and could use some advice. Actually, I could use more than a little advice. Could someone help me build a plan? One on the left of the steering wheel for me to charge a cell phone or GPS or something that may be on the left side of the windshield. This one may actually be one of those dual usb voltmeter things. One inside the console for a CB One on the passenger side of the console One or two in the cargo area. I was thinking that I would run one red wire (what gauge here?) from a fuse box the engine bay to a new little fuse box under the dash somewhere. I guess it would be best if this was on a relay. I think I'd like a switch on the inside that turns on all them all on and off. That way I could have things on with or without the ignition being on. For simplicity, I could put that relay inside the cabin couldn't I? From there I could run a smaller wire (what gauge here?) to the sockets. Does each socket need it's own wire to the fuse box or would I have two or three on each fuse? I guess the wires to the cargo area should be a little larger too. For grounds, I thought I would find a screw somewhere relatively near the socket. It should probably also plan out anything else right? I also want to mount some led lights inside the hatch so they would shine down on the area when the lift gate is up. I was thinking about something like these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Flush-Mount-5inch-140W-LED-Work-Light-Pod-Combo-Driving-Backup-Fog-Lamp-12V-Jeep/153197939158?hash=item23ab4f09d6:g:4mMAAOSwtYJbraTX:rk:3:pf:0 For the interior fuse boxI was thinking about a block similar to the one below.

Could a brace be inserted between the rails to strengthen that? I know in the Jeep XJ community folks are often finding ways to reinforce the uniframe.

I haven't had a chance to test my mirrors... It was 75*F here today! You've got snow and I was sweating my buns off.

I've been using this as an on board computer and it provides some gauges. I think what I will do is find an old iPhone and a method to mount for long term. They don't come on automatically, but works well.
