Does it sound right that it runs fine at any speed other than idle? Also, I don't hear any detonation but who knows on that front. Ya know what, the extra fuel makes sense. I seems to be pretty dirty earlier today when putting the hammer down. I could see exhaust in the middle of the day. darn darn darn darn darn. Gonna try the stealer and other parts places tomorrow to hopefully score a deal.

This is borrowed from 94Path's post on his recent replacement. Knock sensor post "Sonuva... how long did this take you, and what would you rate it for difficulty on a 1-10. My Pathy started acting up last night. 94 with a 5sp and I just got it out of the shop with a new clutch, so money isn't so great right now. It runs and drives prefect, but won't idle to save its life sometimes. Not always, generally when its warm. I sputters and sometimes dies coming to a stop. Just pulled the codes and I'm getting 34, Knock Sensor. By the way, what does the knock sensor do anyways?" So, I cleared the codes and drove around a bit. Same deal, code 34. And it barely lumps along with an idle of just a couple hundred RPM's. What does that senor control, and does it hurt it to drive it like that in the short term? I called Schucks (Checkers) and they quoted me $275! :o Mind you, I just blew $500 on the clutch yesterday and more on fixing our other car last week. Does anyone have a cheaper local source, or know about how much it would cost to have the work done? Its 6:30pm, so the shops I'd call for quotes are closed. I need to get this thing back on the road (if it doesn't destroy the rest of my bank account) ASAP. We're going on a monster camping trip with friends next weekend, and its definately a 4wd required kinda deal to get in to where we're going. Help!

Dude, you're in Texas. Not exacly import land. :secret: That's gotta suck, though. They're rare as hell here as it is. Make sure you just ask for Nissan trucks at teh bone yard. The local yocals at one lot said no to the Pathy, but yes to Hardbodies, for which many parts are interchangable.. What was sitting right next to the Hardbodies? 2 old Pathy's. Pretty tore up, but worth a shot.

Um, or sharing songs and files somewhat annonymously. Or maybe just working and talking online? It happens...

I know, and I do. If anything, its just a dumb design by Nissan.

Is this with an auto or manual? Sorry, I don't have an answer for you. Just wondering if the switch and/or wiring it would make a difference.

Heee heee... After seing his find, I thought I'd check when I was out. Best I could find was a pair of partially rusting Mountain Ryder's, one of which was fairly severely dented. The rest where stock or blown to hell. I must say, man, where do you get your stuff?!? :secret:

Also, for any locals (or people who may inquire about shipping) I saw at least one, possibly more, complete gauge clusters for 94/95 Pathys at Meridian Auto Wrecking in Puyallup, WA. I only noticed them because I was looking for that as a give-away of what year a completely torn apart hulk was, since they have the rounded dash and gauges like mine. Just a shot out.

Not sure if this is the same issue due to the differnces in years, but mine did something like this when I bought it. The clock too. On a random yet related note, the dealer said the AC didn't work, so I checked the fuse box and there was no fuse! So I replaced that and checked/tightened them all, and the gauges and clock have worked fine ever since. They were just loose or something. Its worth a quick and free try at least.

Good write up. May have to use it. I've been meaning to pull mine out just to clean it up because of the location near the oil filter. Wonder what the clearances and work involved would be for someone with some fab skills to work up some sort of shield to protect the starter. Maybe it isn't a practical thought, but who knows.

I've got all the toys and whistles yet no LSD. Seems the Nissan guys got a little happy and spread them around a bit.

Yeah, it should be ok. Also, I ran an RV battery in my 85 Nissan truck for a couple years with no problems. Just tood a hammer and Sawz-All to *help* with the install. Had the same 1000 Alpine amp, along with another, and some lights, and I could drive that stereo for hours and hours and still fire it up to get home. Another thought if you don't care about weight in your truck. My dad runs a starting battery along with 2 6volt golf cart batteries wired together in the boat (28' cabin cruiser). They're pretty big, but they seriously last forever. We'll go out for days at a time with a pretty decent system in the boat, along with all the doo-dads, and have no problems at all. They even go on several-week road trips (just got back from lake hopping through OR and CA) and just bring along a charger, just in case.

Well, guys, good news. First off, I'd like to put out thanks for the spot-on diagnosis so long ago. My problems were indeed my throw-out bearing, and the clutch was pretty much toast as well. I don't remember who called it and verified my suspicions, but we were all right. Now, for even better news for the locals. $499 out the door, tax included ($450 or so if you drove up from OR). Complete new clutch kit, lifetime warranty, in and out in a day. I didn't realize just how far my old clutch was gone. I knew it was sloppy, but I just about gave myself whiplash on the first few shifts while getting used to the new clutch. Its like brand new, almost too touchy. Actually, yeah. Mine was done at Firestone through the body shop after it was wrecked. Since I didn't directly pay for it, I didn't get the lifetime deal. But the guy told me flat out that people will buy the lifetime deal and get alignments done at every oil change, after each offroad trip, etc. They don't seem to care. I imagine the vast majority of people do it once and don't come back, so they've already made their money for people like us.

Thanks to all for posting this rusting issue. I hadn't paid too much attention but, sure enough, there is just a tad of rust starting there. Nothing bad, just surface flaking and stuff, but better to tackle it now.

That would do it. I was going to last night but had a suprise visit by the inlaws. Good times, good times. I carried a screwdriver to prop the hatch open during the winter, especially while gearing up for skiing and such. Nothing like starting off the day in 20degree snow and a knot on the top of your head from teh (*^%$%# hatch.

I saw one like that too. I guess I'm just a stingy and picky fool. I'm settling/hoping for one like Mudfinder has in chrome. Simple, clean, somewhere to mount lights, and hopefully not $300-500. Who knows, maybe it won't happen, maybe it will. A guy can hope though. Not like I'm in a hurry, this being 2 hours before I drop the girl off for a new clutch.
