  1. All right this one is a little off the wall. I just put 35" tires on my pathfinder. I am a little concerned with the weight of the tire on the tire carrier . I do not want to bend the sheet metal on the body by installing to much weight. Does anyone have experience with this problem? I do not want to be the first to find out. Thanks.
  2. Check Steven at Rugged Rocks, he just had a front axle designed to take 233b 3rd member. He is working on getting it under his pathfinder now.
  3. They have a jeep cherokee class in desert racing and they haul @#@ through the desert with a solid front axle. Not that long ago all 4x4 trucks that competed in BAJA 1000 were solid front axle. If you are not building a trophy truck and want something good in rocks and desert, just do SAS.
  4. Almost knocked myself out on my track bar bracket while doing work on rear axle. Second time today, now have a huge bump on my head. When I caught my breath, I grabbed a sawzall and cut it off. Tired of running into that thing. I don't need it anyway.
  5. Is anybody planning on going to Moab this year? If so where are you driving from and when are you driving out? Thanks
  6. I was afraid of that. With my exo and added axle and cross member stuff I was thinking I might be tipping 5000. I might try flat towing to save weight of trailer.
  7. 4K to 4.5K lbs. is about what I figured . My buddies trailer is safe for that weight mine is just over built because I use to have a 1957 chevy 4x4 on a 1 ton chassis it was heavy even for my f250 diesel.
  8. Trying to figure it out without going down to truck scales. Planning on towing to GONE Moab this year. Unfortunately my car trailer weighs 2500 lbs. and I know longer have a 3/4 ton truck to pull it. My 4x4 van is only a 1/2 ton so I don't want to kill it trying to pull PF 2k miles round trip. I can borrow my buddies that only weighs 1400 LBS. but I hate borrowing stuff and dragging it that far.
  9. That would be interesting . My wife has a Sami and we love it. I tow it behind our 4x4 van when we take the family camping and you don't even know it's back there.
  10. Hey good idea,I would not have thought of that. Thanks
  11. Looked into that,By the time everything was done for a one off it was not worth it . The Atlas case is a little out of reach, but by the time you start having stuff fabbed up for you,the cost isn't as much as you would think.
  12. Awesome post DOWSER I have always liked this type of setup. I have been seeing them for years in Australian 4WD magazine's . Maybe the next project.
  13. FYI toyota brake lines work perfectly and most shops ship fast . The shops I used most and liked the best were trail gear , Rugged Rocks and Low Range offroad.
  14. Here is another one of steering. It is a hysteer kit from all pro or trail gear. I can not remember which one now I would have to go through receipts. They are all basically the same. I think trailgear was a 1/2 shorter arms. Sky manufacturer makes shortest ones.Although they are always back ordered. The steering links are fj80 and I was able to install in top of pathfinder steering arm with no modification. It works great. The bumper is really just part of the exo cage that I still have not quite finished.
  15. Tmoore is right. I checked every option trying to adapt TOY case to nissan.( I had toyota case with 5.1 gears.) I could not do it. Out put shafts on toy and nissan are completely different. 21 spline to 28 spline. You would have to find or make a stub shaft adapter.Advance adapters makes an adapter for nissan to atlas case. I believe it is $400 is not much help unless you are using atlas case. If you figure out a way let me know I am sure most people here would. Good luck.
  16. Here is front axle mock up. Trying to get caster angle right.(I did not 1st or 2nd time.) Here it is under truck 3rd time was a charm.
  17. Tmoore is right . I used johnny joints i like them I have no wobble and have driven with cruise control on at 80mph.Very stable. Think about sway bars also,it will need it to drive at speed on freeway. Trust me tried it. If this is something that you will drive alot you might think about going with joints on axle side only. It will save you some money and make it a little better on hwy.
  18. You could probably find a thread here somewhere on this. Here are some options the dana 44 does not have a 4.63 ratio. The closest you could get is a 4.55 not close enough. Toyota used to have 4.63 in 1st gen 4x4 BUT extremely hard to find . 4.90 is your best option in rear because almost everyone makes a 4.88 and you will have no trouble with those. Your best bet is find some used 4.90 from xterra in wreaking yard. As far as axles go, that is up to you and how much money you want to spend. I went with a 1985 toyota 4 runner axle.Mainly because I had it sitting in garage so I spent very little money on my SAS. It was quite a bit of work because that is a pass. side drop that I had to flip to drivers side. The dana 44 is what most people use.Steve with RuggedRocks.com has a new diamond axle that uses a nissan 3rd member(HUGE advantage). I do not remember what the total cost is or what steering knuckles he uses but if you call or email him he will let you know.He was thinking of making a front link set up awhile back. I am not sure where he currently stands on that project, ask see what he says. Trailgear.com has a nice axle called Rock Assault (for tacoma's). Those are a few options I am sure there are more, but these are what I had found. On link set ups again there are endless options www.ruffstuffspecialties.com is a company I have used quite a bit with a couple different builds. They have high quality parts and sell complete link set ups. They ship out same day to next day which is a big plus.I have dealt with a few other fab companies and have been VERY disappointed when I have not recieved what I ordered after 10 days. After a call to manager I found out they were back ordered for min.3-4 weeks. Check this out NissanNut.com they have alot of info. I hope that helps . Good luck
  19. Check for rust like everyone said. If he is the original owner and it was kept in garage ,you are probably good.Your winters are not that bad.(went to U.N.R. go wolf pack). They are great as a family car. I used mine for years in Lake Tahoe before making it a rock crawler. Still use it alot just not much in snow.Detroit lockers and ice BAD. 500 over sounds good especially if it is clean.Good Luck.
  20. It is completely do able. I was just looking at a GMC denali with a rear dana 44 steering axle. It was a great idea,I thought. I have a buddy with a 4 wheel steer buggy that works very good in tight spots.(i am not a buggy fan).Keep in mind it would most likely not be streetable in most states if any.
  21. Congrats its always nice when your other half enjoys the same stuff. My wife liked going ,but was afraid to wheel my pathy. I bought her a suzuki samurai and she drives it every where.
