  1. That thing is cool. I looked into long arm kit before I did SAS. I saw a kit at SEMA a few years ago. I believe it was Fab Tech or Camberg .I will see if I could find info. They did a 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive. The 4x4 kit was about 4K complete I think it used a porsche 930 cv . The whole front end had to be cut out. It looked more or less like this red one,but not as beefy. I would imagine this was a 10K + mod.
  2. I like the doubler also, but I figure I will not have any problems in big rocks with AC gears. I ran a 4.1 in my old 4runner for many years with an under powered 4 banger and made it through all the big rock's in California (ie rubicon, fordyce, dusy ershim and the hammers.) I am waiting for the little bit of snow we have to melt so i can get out on trail and try the gears out. Let me know how yours works out.
  3. Hey pathybuilder, here is a pretty good you tube for info. I know it is a toyota, but the 3rd member is about the same. It is not that hard I have done about 4 ring and pinion's and they all came out good . Just take your time. Have you ordered new bearings? I was not lucky enough to reuse pinion bearing's on mine. It is better to get new one's to begin with . Also good time to change axle seals if they are leaking. Good thinking on gears, especially if you want to go 35" latter. Good luck.
  4. Thank s. Cal mini still list gears but they have not had any for last 2 years. Indefinate back order is what I was told. Same with SYE.
  5. A 255/65/15 equates to a 28" tall 10" wide roughly. In reality your 31" is probably closer to 30" unless it's a swamper. Not a good idea to use . In a pinch on your FRONT end you could probably get away with it .If you were going 55mph your 255/65/15 would be spinning approximately 60mph .(figures not exact, but close)The difference gets bigger as you go faster smaller as you go slower. A lot of cars have little spares that your not supposed to go over 55 with, but on 4x4 get a full size spare. Good Luck.
  6. Very informative guy's. Thanks. Cal mini no longer does 3.9 gear set or slip yoke eliminator . I have not been able to find another source. I have T-case apart now, to put automotive customizers gears in. I have tried to make SYE,but was not happy with results. I am getting tired of having pathy down , so probably going to put it back together and lenghthen stock driveline .
  7. Hey everyone. Just a side note. This is what I did. My wife likes going wheelin but was afraid to drive my pathy on the trail. She said it was to high and hard to judge where the wheels are going.(In her defense we are talking about trails like the Rubicon. It does get hairy even for seasoned wheelers). Any way I bought her a suzuki samurai. It was fully decked out with 31" tires, winch, and 5" lift. It was only $3500 and performs wonderfully.I have even towed it to the trail behind my pathy. If I had to do it all again I would have saved a lot of time and money by leaving my pathy mildly stock and bought a trail rig for less then mods on pathy. That is just my opinion hope it helps.
  8. That's great. Were you able to find price or pics? I was not able to locate any.
  9. I posted some pics of my cross member its in solid axle section. I have since redone it using a 4" .250 piece of pipe . I just cut pipe in half and added some extra bracing. I will try to go out and add some more pics.
  10. I agree with Dowser on gap. It looks good . For everyone that does not know the computer is under front seats and it will short out and stop you long before you have to hold your breath. haha I found that out in a bad way.
  11. Front shaft is temp.Although it will become my spare on big rock trips. The problem was it is toyota front axle to nissan transfer case. I am working on getting 3.8 gears in case now. So I will have a new driveline done soon.I also have to have rear lengthened . I will never need to drive it at speed in 4wd being I have 3 other 4x4.
  12. Here are a few pics of front driveline, made out of square tubing . Was trying to figure out what I was doing with transfer case so did not want to spend money to have one made. This was cheap( I had tubing)and easy and works great. Had to change front cross member to clear driveline ( pain in the neck).Rush job was going wheelin next morning. I also had to cut exhaust up to clear driveline. This is the front toyota axle that were flipping to drivers side drop. Messed up caster angle had to cut it twice. Still not perfect, One degree difference between left and right. Knew I should of taken time to make jig. Found these cool spring perches from Ruff Stuff specialties . Unfortunately Found out they were to tall to use with my high steer . Had to cut those off .
  13. You will need to have exhaust work done, also need to do some fab work on that cross member also. I will post some pics of mine. DO NOT weld front diff gears unless all you do is mud. From looking at pics it does not look like you have air locker. I did not notice front bump stops .Being you have front spring under make sure front pumpkin won't hit oil pan . This would be VERY bad. You do not have to do anything to your front end except figure out gear ratio. A lock right or other brand of lunch box locker will work just fine. Also cheap and EASY to install .
  14. Hi czseven . I was refering to my reading on 10 year old comment not you. The first thing you will need to do is pop front cover off of dana 44 . If your hubs are unlocked you should be able to turn front driveline . There should be a stamped number on side of gear that says ratio. From there you can find out what type of gears you need for rear end . I was running a IFS in front and detroit locker in rear and was able to go where most jeeps went. With your SAS and gears you should have no problem following your friends.(although lockers would be nice).Tmoore is right max 5% on ratio difference. I run 4.88 front 4.90 rear.
  15. Sorry I think i only read what I wanted . HAHA Reminds me of my 10 year old. OK I am sure you could find a gear ratio to match front 44 . It will be easier in long run . I think these are the ratio's available. 4.11,4.37,4.62,4.88(HARD TO FIND),4.90,5.14 ?,5.38 . I think that covers it. This is what I found when I was looking for gears to match my toyota front axle. I might of missed one ,but these should cover most axle ratio's unless you have something like 3.55 in front which you do not want.
  16. First why do you want to use rear 44 ? The ring and pinion is smaller then nissan . You would have to adapt parking brake to work . You would have to redo brake line fitting s and any type of spring perch to mount to your pathfinder . Oh ya almost forgot driveline u joint . The ONLY advantage I could think of is ring gears are cheaper . There is no advantage in running front 44 and rear 44 . WE as a group are more or less forced to use 44 fronts or build custom front axle's. I think if you ask most people here ,they would use a nissan axle if it were available. (Steven at Rugged Rocks has new diamond axle available using h233 3rd member) Good luck on your choice .
  17. Not exactly sure what axle is under a 2001 . I do know that on my 95 with 233b , it is a pain in the neck . I changed one side a couple months ago and it does take a little work , and that is if you have the tools.
  18. I agree with Tungsten, but other's also have good point. Take it out and use it, see how it work's and what the limitation's are for you . Then go from there you might find a set of mud tires and bumpers are all you need . It will save you money in the long run. Good luck.
  19. My family and I were in a bad accident a couple years ago . The guy who hit us was doing 90 mph ( thats what he told chp) . He came across hwy and hit us in my door . We rolled four times and my wife's leg went out passenger side window . Needless to say she is now handicapped. Rock sliders and full cage saved our lives. Anyway I had a lot of time with insurance company, since the guy who hit us had NO insurance. The insurance company only paid what a 1985 toyota 4 runner was value at . It had full coverage and about 10k into it . Luckily they let me buy it for $500. Check into the coverage in your state they are all different . Look into RAISING your uninsured motorized . Everyone who reads this should look into it..We had 50k and it did not pay for 3 leg surgeries and lost wages. Most the time it is not that much more money . A million dollar policy cost me about 150 a year . You never know when SOMEONE else will crash into you . Good luck.
  20. Do you already have a toyota front axle? You should look at trail gear's rock assault axle if not. In the long run you will probably save money instead of having one fabbed. I did the toyota axle flip on mine. If I did not already have axle I would not have done a toyota axle . A built toyota axle is just as strong if not stronger then a dana 44. Good luck on your choice it will look good either way .
  21. Sorry I don't know what the problem is . I am more jealous that you have snow . I have forgotten what it looked like .
  22. Front axle and leaf springs , as long as it does not have vac. disconnect. Also keep front driveline you might be able to use it also .
  23. I want that too. When can you send me one? LOL
  24. Hello Lee. I checked with 4 wheel parts (big 4wd shop up here) and no joy . Also checked ebay and craigslist in CA. and NV. sorry no joy. Maybe someone out there will have a line on one. Good luck. Adrian
