not PF related but update on cleaning the starter solenoid in my 90 Sentra, so far since I took it apart, the car has started every time the first time, hopefully what ever I did will last for a while.

Brake Caliper leaking at seal, replace the whole thing?
ahardb0dy replied to MadManMike's topic in General Forums
I would just replace the seal, it is really easy, all it involves is making the piston come completely out, replacing the o-ring and dust boot, here is a link to the kit from my local auto parts, no idea what is near you: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Disc-Brake-Caliper-Repair-Kit-Tru-Torque_3660540-P_223_R|GRPBRHYAMS_1048178128___ -
K&N or similiar air filter onto MAF question
ahardb0dy replied to ahardb0dy's topic in General Forums
would it be ok to move the MAF sensor closer to the TB? I need a few more inches to mount my enclosed K&N -
engine has a serial number but don't know if you can get any info from that

Was wondering if there was anyway to tell what year a VG30 engine is? I know it would be almost impossible to tell what vehicle it came out of but maybe the year? The engine was a JDM engine and have no info on it. Now that I remember it did have a transfer case attached so that should narrow down the model anyway. Thanks

even with the stock alternator upgrading the alt to battery wire and ground can't hurt, I think they refer to this as the big 3 but can't remember what the 3rd wire to upgrade is.

How to install a 110 amp alternator in your Pathy
ahardb0dy replied to 88pathoffroad's topic in How-To's
what is the problem with leaving the adjusting bracket the stock length? Does it put the alt out to far away from the engine? I swapped a 110 amp alt from a Maxima into my 90 sentra, talk about little room!! All I did as far as the adjusting bracket, ( the maxima alt looks similar) was cut a short pc. of metal about 1/4" thick, I curved the bottom where it sits on the Alt and bolted it to the one mounting tab that is in a different spot than the factory alt, what that did was put the new mounting tab close to where the factory one was. It is working fine, only problem in the Sentra is I have very little adjustment as the alt is almost touching an AC line. Oh the 96 maxima alt comes in either 110 or 125 amps and I got mine on a half price day for only $10 here is the maxima alt for comparison: front of the maxima alt 125 amp: rear of maxima 125 amp: quest 110 amp: looks like the maxima mounting tab is on the opposite side, may work better with the factory adjuster but hard to tell from the pics -
I've read on here about people using the console from a Jeep grand Cherokee?? I looked at one in a co-workers jeep today and unless the one that they swap is from a different year there is NO WAY that thing would fit as it looks bigger then the R50 console!! Anyone have a link for the jeep console swap? thanks

I have just what you need, but may I recommend these battery terminals too, I have one on my negative right now on my Sentra and have a positive waiting to go on: http://www.streetwires.com/products/default.aspx?grp=67 these are pretty cool and some have a built in fuse as far as connectors I use these: http://www.streetwires.com/products/default.aspx?grp=59 I use the 3rd one down, I found the negative terminal and the ring terminals at this electronic surplus store we have down here they were really cheap, the positive I had to order at regular price from here: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=263-628 and this is the whole category of streetwires battery terminals :http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults.cfm?searchFilter=&srchExt=CAT&perPage=27&sortBy=1&layout=grid&page=1&srchPrice=&srchCat=732&srchMfg=353&srchPromo=&srchAttr= and the ring terminals: http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults.cfm?searchFilter=&srchExt=CAT&perPage=27&sortBy=1&layout=grid&page=1&srchPrice=&srchCat=737&srchMfg=353&srchPromo=&srchAttr= when I upgraded my alternator in my Sentra, (and when I do it in the pathfinder), I ran 4 gauge from the alternator to the battery using those ring terminals, also as I suggested in another thread instead of having a bunch of connections directly on your positive terminal you can run a short peice of 4 gauge to a fused distribution block and than connect any accessories to it, I like this one as you can use a ring terminal on the input with any gauge wire: this is a one in 2 out the one I have is one in 4 out all fused: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=263-611

K&N or similiar air filter onto MAF question
ahardb0dy replied to ahardb0dy's topic in General Forums
I saw the one you used in the autoparts store today -
just checked some Quests, they don't seem to have a console between the seats
-
My sentra used to do that and I replaced the aftermarket spark plug wires with factory one's it cured it and hasn't done it again.

very confused, mechanic says my timing belt is metal?
ahardb0dy replied to zelix's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
also don't forget if you do it yourself and have a problem we are all here for you, I know it's frustrating when you run into a problem and you run to get online to come on here looking for an answer and no one is on, been there done that, so for you, if you want it I will give you my cell number and feel free to call if you run into something you can't figure out. -
mine is still starting fine, it actually sounds like it is cranking faster,on a related note I drove my 90 sentra to the junkyard, when I went to leave it would just click (5 speed manual), I rocked it back and forth slightly and it started right up, stopped at the auto parts and supermarket and both times same thing just would click, when I got home and finished with the PF I took the starter out of the sentra, cleaned it up a little, wire brushed the contacts where the wires go, than took the solenoid off, and cleaned that all up, put it back together and back in the car and tried starting it and all it would do is spin !! I was like oh crap, so took it back out and removed the solenoid and discovered I had the spring inside on wrong, fixed that put it back in the car and it started right up, will see what happens tomorrow after work. The starter may be the original one (in the sentra), it has an orange label on it that says Nissan with the part number, if it is original it's not bad 20 years old and all!! I keep telling my wife the starter is the only thing that I haven't replaced on the car yet, LOL

I got everything off the core support to remove the stock composite headlights and mount the sealed beams, even cut the headlight plugs and got the rubber boots that cover the back of the bulbs, and all the bolts too, lol I also test fit it on a PF before I left. I didn't take the small rubber pieces above the headlights as the drivers side I would have removed anyway so the K&N can get more airflow. Stopped at auto parts on the way home can't beleive the prices of sealed beam headlights now a days !! $13 for normal ones $20 for silverstars,, each, the Hella conversion ones with the replaceable bulbs are about $50 each !! But as I was thinking last night won't have to worry about the headlights getting yellow or cloudy right ?? Man I miss my discounts I used to get back home, even from the dealer I got 20% off list, well I still get that when I stop in there when I go back home to visit, LOL Beastpath, you may have an inch on each side of your CURRENT console but if you placed the 98 style in between your seats you would have 1" to little, the PF I tried it in had the pass. seat removed and it was still not going to fit.never mind the seatbelt stalks would be in the way as well, didn't seem worth all the extra effort just for a nicer storage unit and 2 cup holders, to me anyway. Will check the quest consoles in a minute. Oh, after removing my current fan and fan clutch and comparing the one I bought today which came out of a 2 door that they just put out in the yard, both the fan blade and the clutch are smaller, I installed it anyway but I think the clutch is shot, your not supposed to be able to stop the fan blade while it's spinning right? I used the rubber part of a screw driver handle and the blade stopped very easily, than after the engine cooled down, I removed the junkyard one and put mine back in, which also stops spinning using the screwdriver handle !! only good thing today is the parking light I got, that fit right on and works good, looks good too. So when did the 2 door pathfinders switch from a "I" beam style trailing arm to tubular ones? the 2 door I took the fan out of had "I" beam trailing arms and one of them was snapped in half!! one last thing, the Hardbody I took the headlight buckets off of is also the same truck (cab actually since it had no frame or bed), that I got the window weatherstripping and glove box latch out of, today I actually found the bed and got a little excited when I saw that in the bed it had the newer style hardbody hood !! But after flipping it over it had some bad damage so I passed on it

too late but thanks, pulled one from a 98 at the junkyard but tried it in a pathfinder like mine before buying it, think it's just too wide,so I left it. appreciate the measurement
-
the console from the 98 PF was still there except some time between Saturday and today someone broke the part that goes around the shifter, turns out the truck was a 2wd automatic, I was going to buy it cracked and all but after trying a test fit in a PF like mine I said forget it, the 98 console is about 1" wider, no idea how the guy on car domain got it to work, you wouldn't be able to slide the seats forward, plus the auto shifter was about an inch low and looked like crap. Oh well have to figure out a new plan to get cup holders..... did pick up a pair of hardbody headlight buckets and found a fan blade with clutch that looks better than mine, and they didn't even charge me for the fan blade, oh got a new pass. side marker light also,, it was like Africa hot there today, I think I sweated out about a gallon of water !!

thanks all for the measurement

OOOOOHHHHH BAD BOY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL, just kidding -
what are the 2 plugs for under the upper rad support?
ahardb0dy replied to ahardb0dy's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
thought so, just wanted to make sure, I guess that sensor is only for the automatic climate controls, not the plug for the fog lights, the fog light plug is black, I have that one also -
