  1. You would most likely have more trouble actually trying to "hit" the reinforcement beam.
  2. About $150.00 and yes you can. Just need snap ring pliers and a couple of sockets.
  3. That video is insane. That ain't right. Might as well buy a submarine. Well, might be fun on a hot summer day. How do you water proof all the electronics?
  4. If you can find the Vin# the dealer can tell if that vehicle came with LSD or open.
  5. Nice pic's. Good looking also. Where were you to have such a nice area.
  6. I love my AC lift, which does give you closer to 3". I have the BFG A/T's which work well off-road but provide good highway travel without sounding like a chainsaw. Again, depends on what you want to do. Heavy mud is a whole different game versus sand, dirt or rocks. Welcome to the forum. These folks can tell you every thing about building up the Pathfinder. Actually, the information is here in the kinda user friendly forums.
  7. I know. Can you believe it? As for the party, I shall indeed have to consume an adult beverage upon the arrival and successful installation of the new parts. And, of course, an immediate desert trip will be mandatory to finalize the mating of better gears and the LSD to my beloved R50. What the heck, I shall have an adult beverage, or 3, in honor of all you that helped make this awe inspiring event possible.
  8. Just an update. I called and raised hell about the major screw up and being sent the wrong parts. I received open diff's, exactly the same as I have now. They actually offered to make things right so I asked them to locate a front and rear 4:63 with LSD. They located a 2000 Pathfinder with 4:63 and LSD and will be sending them out. They also will eat the shipping and take back the wrong diff's that got sent. So, I end up with the better gears I originally wanted and get a LSD rear. Life is good, at least for now. Quick! Some one tell me it won't work. Just joking. Thanks again for the info.
  9. That was not pee in my shoe............that was a full scale combat dump. Oh what the heck, it's only money and if I get that distressed I can always buy a Just Empty Every Pocket and start really breaking stuff. Sure seems that the LSD would be as good as the rest of the vehicle. I shall find out soon enough.
  10. ARGGGGGG! Now I hear I could have bought 4:63 gears by going to the older rigs. Oh well, it is what it is. The LSD will be a big help for me. And, I hate you...............you have way too many cool tools..........................lol
  11. What am I trying to accomplish? In all the confusion I almost forgot. I had originally hoped to obtain some 4:63 gears but that went down hill after I finally learned that they were never made for the 2003 Pathfinder. I figured the next best thing would be to get some used parts to obtain a LSD rear diff for my rig. Turns out the idiot that sold them to me (front and rear) screwed up and sent a couple of stock (open) axel assemblies. I found this all out today. Of course I did not need a new front diff since they do not come in LSD or any other gearing than 4:36. I got a refund on the wrong parts and they are supposed to be sending me the right (LSD) rear diff. I also get to keep the wrong parts since shipping is so high and they made the mistake. Will keep the axels I guess as spares or just list them and try and sell them. The tube I did not recognise is the breather tube so that was solved. I just figured a LSD rear end would be such a major improvement over what I have it would be worth the effort. Since I am not a Rock Crawler it should be just fine. Three wheels turning has to be better than 2. Sorry for all the confusion. Too many "experts" talking out their butts, I got a bit perplexed and figured you folks would know the real truth. Next time I will consult you first. Geez, even the people at the dealership that work on these thing don't know squat. Another fine example of an old fart goofing up. If nothing else, maybe you got a good laugh at my foolishness. Thanks for putting up with me. Hey, I know. I will endeavor to put some wazoo new fangled sound system in the rig. That should be good for at least 300 messages pleading for help...................naw, I wouldn't put you folks through that. At least when I blow up this rig I will now know what to look for the next time to get it right from the beginning.
  12. I figured it was not a air locker, that would be way too cool and easy. I wonder why my diff has the hole plugged but this one has the tube coming out. Still need a gasket for the 3rd member so will ask the idiots at Nissan. My luck, I got the same system I had and it is not even a LSD. Hmm, there I go bitching again. One of those days.
  13. On this new diff there is an aluminum tube that protrudes from the top of the diff. It is shaped like a fitting for a regular 1/4" rubber hose line. My rear diff has the same hole but it is capped with a metal screw in plug. The location of the tube is the top center of the diff (the middle of the axel housing where the 3rd member goes in). I will get a pic today.
  14. The entire rear axel assembly came, not just the 3rd member. I had wanted to upgrade but, as you say, the 4:63 was never an option so I just went for the locker on my 4:36's. It was the same price for the entire assembly or the 3rd member so I figured a couple of spare axels would be nice to have, just in case. Seems I never get it figured out til after the fact. I will get a couple of pic's as soon as I break the thing open. I had thought it was an electric operation but it sure seems to be an air system. Heavy sigh, off on another friggin adventure to make the R-50 a bit more off road worthy.
  15. Ok, I got a rear diff out of a 2003 Pathfinder (ordered it I should say) and it is touted as a "locker" which I am sure is a LSD. It arrived and the only difference I can see so far is a air fitting connector on the top of the diff. Before wasting my time with the dealer I figured I would ask the experts here. Is this an air locker rig? What do I need to get to make it work? Any one have experience with these? I know, kinda late to ask that now.
  16. I had the same problem when I put my Warn's on a few weeks ago. Just had to beat the hell out of them with a big screw driver and hammer.
  17. Ok, I must not know what a VQ is. I was thinking of a Infiniti being a VQ.
  18. Well, I specifically asked for the HG46 and was told that was the one they had. They came out of a Pathfinder, not a VQ. I know most of the Pathfinders came with a 4:6 except for the grocery getter 4:3 which is what I had. Geez, all this trouble. Maybe I should have bought a Jeep? Nawww, they ride like crap and I deserve the creature comforts at my advanced age. Besides, my R50 keeps on freaking out the Jeep guys. They can't believe I can do 98% of all the junk they do. I must admit I do enjoy getting thru some evil stuff and see a Jeep have to take the "strap". Just makes me feel warm all over.
  19. Well, I got lucky. The place that was selling me the Xterra diff's had a 2003 Pathfinder with the 4:6 gears and locked rear, which is most likely a LS but, what the heck, it beats the grocery getter 4:3 that came in the rig. Also beats the open/open I am now running. Thanks again to all for the assist and saving my old fart butt from making a major blunder.
  20. Don't bother. I will just wait til I can find the right gears from another R50 or QX4. Thanks for all the info.
  21. That figures. I knew it had to more complicated than what I was told. Well, I should be able to cancel the order easily enough but still have to find some better gears for my rig. The search continues.
  22. Acting on what I believed to be correct info I ordered the complete front and rear differentials off a 2003 Xterra 4X4 to exchange for the units on my 2003 R50. The Xterra has a locked rear and has the HG49 ratio rather than my HG43's. The rear is supposed to be able to just swap out the pumpkins but I knew I had to install the new front diff. I got the entire set-up for $1,050 delivered to my drive way. Am I screwed on this or can I do it as advised?
  23. If you are going to be off-roading I would go with steel. Either way I went with 15" steel rims. The tires are way cheaper for 15" vs 16 or 17 plus I figured why trash an expensive set of aluminum in the boonies. With steel a shot of Rustoleum and you are good to go. With 15" steel rims the weight is not all that more compared with larger aluminum. Might gain an extra 10-12 lbs at best.
  24. I put Warn's on my 2003 Pathfinder/ No problem with the fit and they are the same as the 2000, 2001, 2002.....all are 33 spline and bolt right in. I did not get the expected increase in MPG by disconnecting the front diff but at least I cut down on the wear to the front CV's. Don't know about your transfer case. Mine is a manual operated one.
  25. I would just change out all the fluids since they are all 9 years old. That way you have a base mark to go from for future service. It isn't all that expensive to do and better safe than sorry. Nice score on a great rig.
