  1. That appears to be the case for me too. Turns out the recall was from 9/2007. Got an appointment for Friday so hopefully my mileage will improve a little. Here are all the current recalls out there for the 2001s. Used 2001 Nissan Pathfinder Recalls Recall ID # 09E025000 - EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS - Get Details Recall Date: MAY 11, 2009 Component: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS Model Affected: PATHFINDER Potential Units Affected: 42540 Recall Date:MAY 11, 2009 Model Affected:2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER Summary:DOPE, INC. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN OPENING IN THE COATING WHICH CAN ALLOW WATER TO ENTER AND MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BARE METAL OF THE TUBE. Consequence:THIS MAY RESULT IN SURFACE RUST BUT NOT PERFORATION OF THE TUBE. HOWEVER, IN THOSE AREAS OF THE COUNTRY WHICH USE HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS OF ROAD SALT IN THE WINTER, IF A MIXTURE OF SNOW/WATER AND SALT MAKES CONTACT WITH THE BARE METAL, CORROSION MAY OCCUR TO A DEGREE WHICH RESULTS IN PERFORATION OF THE TUBE. 2. Recall eh? Im going to call the dealer today and see if they know anything. Just dont have the money to fix more stuff at the moment.
  3. So after dropping $2k to get the O2 and MAF sensors replaced, I think I have a new problem. The last couple of times I filled the old girl up I noticed a rather strong gas smell, especially in the morning after its been sitting in the garage. Its not visibly leaking, but I am going getting 250 miles out of a tank so something is messed up. The smell isnt coming from the gas cap so I think the leak is somewhere in the line between the cap and the tank. I tried to take the paneling off, but the bolts were really rusty and I snapped the head off one. Those little plastic screw things were confusing so I gave up before I stripped them. The wierd thing is the smell goes away after about a half tank so I dont if its sloshing out or just evaporating. Either way, its probably not the safest thing to drive around at the moment. The sad thing is a kinda hope to walk out of work and see it ablaze in the lot so I get the insurance money. Im thinking about dropping it off somewhere, but I was curious if anyone else has experienced this.
  4. Yep, when I got the bulb out one of the filaments was busted. What an adventure though. I had a hell of a time get the passenger bulb out and ended up breaking one of the tabs off in the connector. Had to pull it out with a pair of pliers (unhooked the battery). I noticed both connecters were covered with funk and some corrosion. I sprayed some MAF cleaner on them and wiped them down and bought this anti-corrision gel with the new bulbs. Back in business. Hopefully that will be it for a while. Still hurting from the $2K I spent on a new MAF and 3 oxygen sensors and associated diagonostics and labor to get it to pass inspection. Thanks again for the help. This is the first car Ive had that just had the one bulb. For what ever reason I thought a lense or something mechanical moved to make the highs brighter.

I had a hell of a time get the passenger bulb out and ended up breaking one of the tabs off in the connector. Had to pull it out with a pair of pliers (unhooked the battery). I noticed both connecters were covered with funk and also had some corrosion. I sprayed some MAF cleaner on them and wiped them down and bought this anti-corrision gel with the new bulbs. Back in business. Hopefully that will be it for a while. Still hurting from teh $2K I spent on a new MAF and 3 oxygen sensors and associated diagonostics and labor to get it to pass inspection. 6. Cool. Ill give that a try and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks
  7. So, I was noticed that my driver's light was out when I pulled into my garage the other day, but the highbeam works. I replaced the bulbs around a year ago, but its obviously not the bulb if the high works? There is only one bulb in there right? Im thinking its has to be a fuse, but I havent had a chance to look at it. Also though it would odd to have a seperate fuse for "driver's low beam".
  8. Ive thought about the hubs. They arent too expensive and seem like a good investment for the longivity of the front drivetrain as well. Just havent had the time to do them. Hopefully I can do them this summer. Other than that, I have just kept the Pathy stock, minus the stereo. I need it to be working all the time when I have the M3 in pieces. Ill probably go ahead and sea foam the best just for giggles and post how it turns out. The M3 coughed up a ton of white smoke and I bet the Pathy can beat it.
  9. I ordered new O2 sensors and was thinking about sea foaming the old girl and then changing the oil in hopes of getting back some MPGs and getting rid of the check engine light. I ran sea foam through my M3 and didnt really notice anything, but I tend to run that much harder so I would think it would have less build up than the Pathy. I was just curious if anyone else has done it and if it was worth messing with. P.S. I am getting around 16 mpg around town. Is that normal? P.S. What is the market value of 01 SE 5-speed with 95K? Im thinking about trying to sell it for something more economical, like a Mazda 3 hatch or older GTI, but dont want to drop a lot of additional cash.
  10. Alrighty, I am finally getting around to doing this. My buddy has an OBDII scanner, but will it be more likely to replace all 4 sensors or 2 (front or back)? Also, I did some checking around and the sensors seem to be around $50 a piece, is that about average? Gas is finally creeping up to $4, but with my commute being on 5 miles each way, Im not using a lot of gas. On the flip side, I never want to drive the pathfinder any farther than I have to. Thanks
  11. So the O2 sensor tool is not Nissan specific? I haven't had to deal with emissions stuff before since the M3 is OBD1. If its a general part, I might be able to borrow one from someone with a BMW. Thanks for all the help by the way. I am going to try and order the parts this week and replace everything on the first warm weekend. Right now I am averaging 14 mpg but my commute is only 4 miles so I am not hurting too bad yet.
  12. Mine is also making a noise, but I can't tell if its just the belts or one of the pulleys as well. Its not screachy like a belt and doesnt always make the noise. I checked the belts the other day and noticed some cracking so its definitely time to replace them. If I take it somewhere, I was going to get the pulleys replaced at the time if its not too much since I dont know what has been replaced on the car before I bought it. Do the pulleys go bad or should I just replace the belts and be done with it?
  13. My gas mileage has also gotten really bad lately. My check engine light goes on and off so I wasnt sure what the deal is. A lady I work with has a 99.5 and she is having the same issues. Her husband is a mechanic and he thinks its the 02 sensor. I was gonna hold off doing anything until spring, but Ill be broke by then the way its going. I figured the sensor would be super expensive because they are on my M3, well I guess everything is expensive on it, but you guys are making it sound pretty cheap. So what else should I get? Coolant sensor? I was going to change my spark plugs until I saw all the stuff I have to remove to get to them. Is replacing them as big a PITA as it looks? Any DIYs? Also, can I get these parts from an auto parts store like auto zone or do I need to go to the dealer? Thanks in advance.
  14. I usually get somewhere between 18/19. Im gonna replace my spark plugs and hopefully add Warn hubs so hopefully Ill be able to get at least 20. I have learned to drive this thing a lot differently than my M3.
