Its when I do that that my engine looks like that. BUT I only do stuff like that every few months.... besides, the bottom of the box is there, and I've still got the box and filter, so I can just drop it back on and bolt it in. So far its worked fine, but it definitely gets noticed by the ricers, and next thing you know theres someone with a fart can revving behind you...
-
xplorx4, i meant to ask you, what did you do with yours...? wheres it go now? WTF does it even DO? it didnt seem to do much, so I figured its just a breather for something.
-
Well the idea is that i can easily just replace it with a new one, pepboys has carbon fiber cones for $20.
-
You CAN get the MAF housing there for liek $15. ANYWAY... sam convinced me to install tonight, so its complete! My dad gave me his metric tool set, so now I can also tighten that alternator belt! I left the bottom of the airbox there for now, since its dark as hell out, I'll remove that later. Drove about 50 miles on it tonight to test it out, it sounds so &^%*@$# nice.
-
Here it is..... So for $30, you can get the $19.99 filter, and the $9.99 converter, and change your filtration system, and STILL be able to swap the airbox back in.
-
OK, so I stop in pepboys, and I screw around for like an hour looking at different combinations of stuff I can use to make this work... My friend whos the manager there comes over and is like "look, I read your post and its completely retarded, just use this"... he hands me a plate that bolts on where the airbox does, and the cone connects to that. All that worrying about sawing and @!*% was for nothing.
-
Its not K&N though, its noname.
-
Tonight I'm stopping by Pepboys to see what they have along the linse of something to just connect to the bolts where the airbox is. If all else fails, then Friday I'm rigging my own. Oh, and about max. He may be reckless and insane, but at least hes willing to try the stuff that the rest of us look at and say "oh hell no" to.
-
Yea, but that just needs to be cleaned off, as will the MAF anyway after doing this... So I'll have to do a bit more cleaning, big deal. So back tot he inital post... can anyone see any reason why this wouldnt work? My only worry is that it will somehow slip off the little space left to hold on to. But as long as I'm on paved roads I dont think it would be much of a problem or long before I discover its not connected any more.
-
To be honest, I wasnt going to oil it at all. I figure that if something can actually fit through this thing, its gonna just burn up anyway.
-
My neighbor has been bugging me to do it for months now, I've got to SOMEHOW compete with his Ram with a new cold air intake and flowmaster exhaust. So, theoretically this is going to work, my biggest concern now is plastic dust from sawing, and supporting the entire setup.

Does anyone (nissandoms) have some pictures of how they did this?

After a nerve racking drive at 90mph to school, my arms were exhausted from trying to hold onto that violently vibrating steering wheel. I pull into the parking lot and decide its class-skipping time. I look at my rims, and see that they have so much mud in them that they look like they're clay+metal rims. I climb around in my trunk till I find a screwdriver. I start smashing the mudaround untill I can actually see my brakes... On the drive back home when I had decided I'd missed enough of class, the drive was nice and smooth. BUT WHERE DID MY SUSPENSION CLUNKING NOISE GO?! That I STILL cant figure out.
-
Yea, I figured I'd just saw off right along where that MAF -> airbox thing is, and then use the half inch or so thats remaining to hold the cone filter on... I dont see how I'm going to kill my MAF by increased airflow... navygz.. explanation please? I'd rather not be flying down the highway and have my engine suddenly go out.
-
Come on, I need some more feedback from the experienced people... xplorx4, pezzy, vengeful, etc. Someone help!
-
I dont really think that it'd kill the MAF for any reason, I mean, its just better airflow. And I'd definitely need to design some kind of bracket for it, it wouldnt hang loose. And I dont do much off-road these days, no time to, so thats not a concern really.
-
So heres the idea. I've got a cone filter that looks like it should fit over the pipe going to the airbox. First I'd like to try to fit it over the old bolts, and tighten it down between the airbox connector and the MAF, but if thats too big, I figure I can just saw the airbox's connector thingy right off at the end and tighten this right on... Whatcha think? Worth screwing this up for that?
-
Yea except that I wont be doing it myself.. So I also need to pay for labor
-
Whats everyone here pay to have them changed? I'm somewhere over 100K now and figure its time to do something about the timing belt. I've got two fears with my Pathfinder. One is that I'll hydrolock off-roading and not be able to pull plug 6, and the other is that the timing belt will go bad, so I think its time to start looking into this.

My R50 went *over* the seats in water, and it fried my airbag computer, and I STILL havent gotten around to fixing it. I got used to the light after a while. Deep water slowly causes more and more problems.

So for me, lets assume $300 each way for gas, and a day and a half each way. When I'm driving long distances I for some reason cant stand sitting somewhere eating, so I just eat junk while I drive, so the cost per day of food is minimal, and if I were to keep supplies on the roof, there would be plenty of room in the back for sleeping, saving money on the cost of staying somewhere overnight. It seems like the entire thing would run around $1000-$1500 for me, at most. But I'd have to fix so many things before then, it would be almost impossible... We'll see.
-
Its not that it bothers me much, my arm muscles just get extremely tired from all that heavy vibration when I'm crusing at highway speeds. I dont think its my brakes cause I went from a strange knocking sound, to insane rocking in the steering, the two HAVE to be connected. I took a look a few minutes ago at the rims, they dont seem to have TOO much stuff on the side I looked on, I dont know about the other, but I'll try to hose them out a bit tomorrow ... well, probably the next day, to see what happens.
-
You know what would be nice, if this werent 2100 miles from my house. How many tanks of gas / days do you think that is? To me, it seems like 3 days / 10 refills of gas each way to me.
-
Yea, nissandoms brought this up on AIM... I drove through alot of thick, icy mud, wet clay, sand, and water. Theres probably a @!*%load of it stuck in those big stock rims. I'll need to take a look at it tomorrow.
-
So I've had this knocking sound from my front passenger suspension for a while. Couldnt figure out WTF it was, so I went out and got deep into the woods, had a few large drops that the suspension made it through, etc. So I get out. I'm goin up the highway, gaining and gaining speed. Once I get to a NORMALLY comfortable 85MPH... theres this insane trembling in my steering wheel, the thing goes back and forth non-stop, almost if I'm out of alignment. But then, if its the alignment, how come that knocking sound is suddenly gone? I bet I have some kind of shopping cart wheel thing going on here, but I cant see it.
