  1. Again, I'm no expert, but I'm not aware of any engine mods that will change shift points, but changing tires to a larger size will, as explained above.
  2. Clearance maybe, not sure. Tranny should only be affected by changing tires on an automatic since it doesnt know when to shift, in a manual you know when to.
  3. I'm far from an expert, but from my understanding, the CVs are the tiny links that drive the front wheels from the front differential when you're in 4x4. When you're not in 4x4, they still rotate with the front wheels unless you've installed manual hubs, which prevent the premature wear of the CVs. If you look under your unlifted truck, they should be pretty much straight from the differential to the front wheels. When you've got a suspension lift installed, the CVs are at an angle, facing down somewhat. When strut spacers are installed, they make this angle even more significant, and its easier to break the CVs when you fully extend your suspension. The more lift, the more the angle, the easier it is to cause damage.
  4. So I can just ease off the gas to allow gear changes and I'm not going to fry anything internal? I was worrying that the transmission was on its last leg when it was taking so long... But this is a real relief!
  5. I was thinking the same thing as kmgar99, can you reset the trans comp to allow a relearn so it does it earlier? I was considering just leaving my battery unplugged overnight, but I know I'll forget and have no idea why its not starting. I just had someone do the upper and lower rear bushings today, and I've gotta say, driving feels so much more safe and stable now, my Pathy is as sure-footed as a mountain goat.
  6. I've been experiencing *extremely* long shifts for some time now, to the point that you basically NEED to ease off the gas to let it shift, otherwise its going to stay in gear revving forever, and while my mechanic is pressing out my old bushings and putting in new ones, I told him to take a look at it, he said the transmission is fine, and he suspects the extremely extended shifts are from going 235 to 265 tires... Does this sound right to anyone? Is there a way to do anything about this other than a regear?
  7. Interesting, so I'm not alone.... Just to add to the problems on Rocky Road, I ordered the trim packers on June 15. They never showed up, I never was charged, so I figured I typed my Visa card number wrong (since I go from memory when I type it online). August 23 rolls around and they decide to process my order. An entire sixty nine days later. I call to cancel the order, outraged that any company would find this acceptable, and of course, even during their business hours, their 800 number rings endlessly. Of course their unaccessable 800 numbre is only "accessable" during hours that I'm supposed to be working, so it was a total waste of a day trying to get these guys on the phone... After some time of trying to get through, someone finally answers and cancels the order and does a reversal on the charge.... Seriously, 69 days? Am I the only one who sees a problem here? They never contacted me to say they're on backorder or anything, then just out of nowhere decide to charge me for stuff I ordered and lost interest in MONTHS ago. Hey, I have a brilliant idea, how about tomorrow I go to work and put one of my associate's files in my bottom drawer, and then eventually get around to going through it in November... Oh wait, then I'd get fired, and if everyone at my office did that, we wouldnt do any business. I dont know about any of you guys, but I for one wont be giving them *my* business ever again.
  8. Glen Mills is *far*. I talked to the guy who owns a body shop and he told me to go to a place on Rt73 here in NJ and tell them that he refered me to them, and they'll do it fairly cheap.
  9. Well, you'd think that if I know someone who owns a body shop, that asking him to do it would mean getting a decent price, instead of getting ripped off just to put some plastic on glass.
  10. Where would I look at for professionally doing it? I couldnt imagine my mechanic doing it, but I know a guy who owns a body shop... should I see what kind of deal I can get from him?
  11. OK. Retarded question, but how do I go about taking the glass windows out of my R50? I plan on getting some el-cheapo window tint from walmart, and when I saw the results my friend got when he tried to just stick it on his windows, I couldnt believe how ****** it looked... I figure that I can get much better results if I actually remove the entire window, set it on the floor on a blanket, and put the sticky dark plastic on ALOT better that way. ...so how do I get these things out?
  12. That gear is down at the far end of the transmission, I think its technically the transfer case. Mine went on and off for a while before it completely stopped... Sometimes it'd swing up to like 40mph when I was doing 85 on a highway, sometimes it'd bounce up and down between 0 and 5 or so, but my OBDii reader was giving me a speed if I drove around with it connected, so I figured it was the gauges themselves. $150 for a new cluster and still nothing. So then I got tired of the situation and just got a TomTom soley for the purpose of knowing how fast im going when theres a cop around, though I've started using it for alot more than that. Then I figured it must be the speed sensor itself, since my OBDii computer stopped giving a speed reeading and started giving a VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR failure code. After I replaced the speed sensor for $192 it worked for a few minutes... literally "around the block" then stopped. *FINALLY* my mechanic was doing an oil change and decided to take a look, replaced that gear, everythings fine.
  13. I havent, I was looking around here for that topic today, wondered where my sticker is!
  14. I tried forever to figure out what was wrong with my R50's speedometer. Replaced the whole cluster, the cable, the speed sensor. Finally I find out it was this tiny worn away plastic gear. The little bag it came in says "PINION SPEEDO" on it.
  15. I had a knocking noise from the front passenger side untill I got lifted, so I figure I had a loose strut or something.. Now my problem is that sometimes (especially hot days I notice it the most) I'll go through a turn, and it feels like the rear axle is disconnected or something, I get this weird swing through the turn.
  16. Sounds like what was happening to me... I'd get a weak crank, then it'd give up, and I would have to let it sit for some time before I could actually get it to start... it worked for a couple weeks like that, then the DAY I got lifted, I parked in front of my house, went to start it again, COMPLETELY dead.... hitting it with a hammer (which is nearly impossible on R50s) only got a very weak crank... Got a new started put in, and it starts faster than any other vehicle I've ever seen. New starter + Optima = beautiful combination.
  17. I like the handling *after* the AC lift ALOT better than stock. It feels much more stable, especially when going through those big curves on highways, it feels alot more like its resting flat than leaning into it.
  18. My R50's auto does a similar, maybe identical thing. When I'm accelerating, I need to ease off the gas to get it to change gears. I've had it looked at and was told that mechanically it looks fine, so I'm thinking its something it must have learned from me, since I have a habit of easing off the gas when its time to shift from my stick days.
  19. I keep a little change holder in my second cupholder, since its too damn far under the armrest anyway, but whenever I have a bottle (theyre always JUST too big to easily fit!) I just close it and lay it down on my E-brake, and it fits between that and the drivers seat. Though I frequently find myself reaching to the back seat cupholders with my 32oz+ drinks... though I've been wondering how hard it would be to get some kind of cupholder that could be 3Med (or screwed) to the dash just above the center airvents...
  20. The problem I have is fitting two things in.. you cant get the farthest one from the shifter if you have something in front of it!
  21. My brother just took it for a drive, and described the feeling as "delayed steering when youre moving"
  22. I've been told tie-rods, and rear control arms, but I poked around and couldnt find anything wrong in the moment I was checking it out, but the CV boot there is definitely in need of replacing.
  23. So yesterday I started getting this REALLY loose or sloppy handling feeling.. felt like my pathy lost 2000 lbs, it was like the entire thing was 100% carbon fiber... just felt much too light and loose. Whenever I'd turn when moving, it felt like my steering had alot of free play in it, but when I looked, the wheels were only moving when I moved the steering wheel, and they were moving IMMEDIATELY, no free play. So I decided to look around underneath this morning. Rear diff breather tube was disconnected, no big deal. Then I saw this... Could this bad CV boot be the cause of my problems? What am I looking at as a cost to repair this... I've never had to do one of these, and I never bother doing things myself...
  24. Now I just started noticing this in mine too. I opened up the hood and saw one of the pulleys/belts in the front was REALLY loose... I havent done anything about it yet, just been ignoring it...
  25. Stock wheels work with 31x10.50 tires. If you're running an XE you'll get some rubbing at full lock, but its not a big deal. Just sell the tires on craigslist.
