Rollover damage looks significantly *LESS* bad than you'd expect. Yesterday I saw a Ford Exploder that had rolled over, and it was totally mangled, but this doesnt look all that bad. The Ford's top was completely flattened into it...
-
How far have you guys managed to tip your R50s without rolling over? Just going up a curb (intentionally) makes me feel like im about to fall over, but theres no way its THAT unstable... Just this felt like I was about to tip over, even though it obviously wasnt.
-
Today I Oil+Filter changed and seafoamed it. Tomorrow if I feel like doing it, I'll go to a junkyard and try getting some parts.
-
ebay is loaded with R50 bumpers, I'm going to a couple junkyards today to look for a new headlight and parking light, and I'm ordering a new bumper AND brush guard from ebay.

I took that plastic grille thing off and worked on hammering the @!*% back and bending it. The bumper just needs to be completely removed, but I dont want to do all that tonight since I am taking it into my mechanic tomorrow for some SRS work, oil change, and exhaust repairs. I'll probably just scrap a new bumper, headlight and parking light, and it'll be fine. It ended up looking like: http://sakana.ath.cx:81/upload/files/DSC09949.JPG Its a bit better than before, some stuff still needs alot of work.

Well I'm going through a turn on a highway, and this guy decides to change into my lane (far left lane) without signaling or looking for someone. I swerve into the guardrail to get away, i see smoke and @!*%, start thinking my Pathfinder is ruined forever. I pull into a parking lot to asess the damage, and hear a sound coming from it. After bending the bumper back a bit, and jaming the plastics somewhat back where they belong, I can use it again, with a missing turn signal and messed up headlight. And no washer fluid. http://sakana.ath.cx:81/pathydamaged/ It looks REALLY bad, but after looking at it fora while i have come to the conclusion that its only a few cosmetic things that are totally $#&%ed up, and most of it should be fixable by either hammer or scraps.

Mine was doing it since day 1. Its not really a problem, just sometimes you have to let go of the brake and hit it again.
-
Mine does it too, its like the brake just doesnt catch the thing somehow, just keep trying and it'll work. For me its normally in the early mornings before I go to work, I just cant seem to get out of park. And its a shifter problem, not a tranny problem, cause I *just* had mine rebuilt.

Roughly twenty. Had Pathy for roughly half a year. Has roughly 85,000 miles on it.
-
Yea seems like its disconnected from the manifold. It was always REALLY loud on that side since when I got it, especialyl before warming up, or on cold mornings, but after some extremely bumpy roads in the pines, its that loud, I'm assuming its completely disconnected.. shouldnt be expensive though, especially if I go somewhere and say "exhaust leak, fix it"...
-
Went off-roading in the Pine barrens in NJ... thought I hadnt broke anything, went to take the pathy to work today, noticed my exhaust was REALLY loud... almost like some civic with a loudener on the exhaust. I get home today, open the hood and start it again... and realize the exhaust on the passenger side of my engine is extremely loose, or disconnected. Yay for more repairs! Shouldnt be expensive though.. but heres a video I made... 10 seconds or so, but you can hear my sexy loud engine. http://sakana.ath.cx:81/fake_diesel.mpg 4.3MB (uncompressed) http://sakana.ath.cx:81/fake_diesel_divx.avi 2MB (compressed with DivX)

Too complicated for someone a simple minded banker like me. So basically, can I use my 4WD on pavement when its wet? Thats basically all I've been trying to figure out here, but I've now found out that I have a different model than I was told (not that it matters), but have some special differential. What can I do different from other people?
-
So XE, sport package? I have power everything in there... And of course no XE/LE/SE badge... someone probably ripped it off to sell it for more, but I only paid $6700 for it. Anyway, so now that we've decided that I have LSD, how does that affect me? I'm obviously fairly new to the terms and what they do.
-
Then WTF do I have, and what makes it special? Maybe its a generic one.
-
I dont know WTF it is, I just know that it needs LSD oil, works great in 4wd, and has a rebuilt transmissino with only like 2000 miles since the rebuild.
-
Sorry these pics suck so much, I'm at work and cant really screw with my pathy right now. 1997.
-
I'm in NJ, and my Pathfinder came from Autotrader.com as an LE. My title, registration, and insurance all say its an LE / V6 / 3.3L / 4x4. Theres no badging, but I've never see the LE/XE/SE badging on the 96-98s, especially the ones with the spare tire on the back. And I JUST walked out and looked, I DEFINITELY have a little orange sticker with white text on the rear differential that says "USE LSD OIL ONLY" on it... and I also have NJ plates. Oh, and I have some Aquatread3 tires or something. Really crappy.
-
Yep, use LSD oil only. And cloth in a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder LE. So what, I have a Canadian one? I found it weird that at 19 years old with 4 points on my license, I can get an SUV for only $192US/mo on insurance. So whats so special about mine anyway?
-
Heres what my options are. How would I know if I have an LSD?
-
I know my 4x4 and t-case are fine, since when I was recently in mud working on getting it out, all four wheels rotated at the same time. If I turn while in 4wd, theres no understeer at all, but if you try making an extremely tight turn, youcan feel the driveline binding up, or something like that.
-
I got my 97 pathy in water SO deep that it was over my seats, park rangers stood by saying "theres no way that things going to start" as a guy in a white F250 chained onto me, I got in, turned the key, engine started... the air intake was about 1/4th an inch above the water. These pathys will take ALOT of damage... except that I had tried rocking it and ruined my transmission. $1800 to rebuild.
-
So we all have the little Pathy wanting to swap ends issue when its really wet out, sometimes around here we'll have an inch of water on the roads, and everyone wants to keep a high speed, so you really need to floor it to get on, so I find myself using 4HI constantly on pavement. I recently read about driveline windup, and damaging transfer cases by running 4WD on pavement... except that even if I put it in 4 on dry pavement, I dont get understeer, it steers normally, and I know theres no problem with my t-case/tranny since I recently had the two rebuilt after trying to rock my pathy out of a clay pit. Is this not true 4wd? I thought that 4WD forced all the wheels to move at the same speed, whether or not the vehicle is in a turn... Perhaps I misunderstood? Or is this just my model being able to do something that my friends Jeep Cherokee cant do? (According to him). 1997 LE 4x4. If I start driving on pavement primarily in 4wd during light rain, is there going to be a problem? What about on *DRY* pavement? And lets not get on a "its a huge waste of gas you big-wastey-guy"... I'm not concerned about the gas, its that I hate doing a 180 on a busy road and needing to act like I meant to do it, and the police sure didnt like it either.
