  1. Reads the sticky threads about lifting R50s. All the info and oppinions are there. I for one don't enjoy my OME lift, so you might wanna try AC, which is cheaper anyway.
  2. My daytime running light module died about two weeks after I bought the Pathfinder, and it cost me about $600. On the topic of lighting... I had an Autostart installed today and my headlights will not turn off once the engine is off, unless I use the factory door remote, or turn the switch off. Also, my interior lights are coming on while going down the road occasionally, but no open-door indicator shows up... They wrecked my car.
  3. Just curious is anyone has gone through this yet. I live in a dry area, but during xmas I went home to an extremely humid place, and perhaps coincidentally my speedobulb and odometer bulb would not illuminate, and shortly after that the fan/heat/climate dials went out. Now that I'm home, everything works, but the fan dials are still dark. I pulled off the centre console bezel, disconnected the plugs, cleaned them (already spotless) and put them back together with some dialectic grease. Still nothing. The unit itself doesn't look like it will want to come out, or apart. Are the bulbs replacable, or do you think its a bigger problem? I have almost ALL of the interior plastic pieces out since I was installing a stereo, and I have noticed more than what I would consider normal for condensation, and found myself getting wet from it on occasion. Probably mostly the -42 - +5 we've had lately.
  4. I tightened mine up today, maybe 2 full turns is all it needed. It was squealing something fierce after a recent snow bank excursion. Snow in fan shroud = mega belt wear.
  5. Odd, I have not yet see a floor shift R50 with the 3.5L yet, or a manual. I'll keep my eyes open though. A question about the Auto mode if anyone knows. I have always assumed it's a simple electronic clutch in the transfer case, but at ANY time in AUTO I can feel and hear that something is engaged. Does it somehow do a torque split full-time, or until it senses slippage of the rear wheels, and then goes full 50/50 or 4Hi? My front differential whines more than most of yours probably does. I can hear it in 4Hi, and also in Auto just not as pronounced, as if it is sending less torque to the front... How does it do this? Dealer once said the All-mode transfer cases are based on the Skyline AWD system, and are extremely complex. I called BS at the time, but now I'm curious.
  6. One of the parts shops in town said he was able to get some chrome or plastic (my choice) inserts for my year Pathfinder, but he may be mistaken since the other four major parts/accessories dealers had or could get nothing. If he's got them, I'll try to get some form of credit from NAPA, or sell this online to somebody. Thanks for the reply Trainman, but I doubt I'll want the bug screen on, ever. Unless you find it looks good, or works good.
  7. I have pretty much run out of ideas and given up on this FIA winter front. It looks nice, but seriously adhesive mounting? So lets say the adhesive actually worked, and I could snap the winter front onto the grill... What about when I don't need the winter front? Am I expected to be OK with having 8 white plastic snaps glued to the front of my chrome grill? Oh, that must be what the bug screen is for.... To hide the most ridiculous method of attaching this thing... Trainman, how did you do it? The snaps adhesive doesn't stick, and I seriously don't expect it to or want it to. I was going to buy some snaps and attach them to an elastic strap, which would be sewn to the back of the winter front... too much work, and the snaps would rub through the chrome finish on the grill... Even if I just poked holes through it and ran some zip-straps or string through it it tie it on, the snaps on the winterfront would rub against the plastic.... what the hell kind of product is this? Did the adhesive actually work for you? Maybe mine is a newer or old revision than yours, it looks a bit different in your pic.
  8. Before you go spend a small fortune on an AC or OME lift, please consider the following: Your camber will be altered, which is not adjustable without buying expensive camber bolts and getting an alignment by a professional. (one set didn't do it for me, some people might need two, depending on the bolt you buy) You won't be able to fit tires larger than a 245/75/16 on factory rims (if they're the same as mine) without either buying expensive wheel spacers, or new rims with a backspacing of 3.75 or 4" (trust me i've tried) Your struts may 'top out' going over bumps. (mine dont) Your CV axles angles will be increased causing more aggressive wear on the joints and boots (i need to replace one) If you opt for the 1" spacers to level the front end, you'll need to have the struts apart, hammer the studs out of your mounts and use longer bolts, which are a pain to install. Your cv axles are even more stressed and your camber is out again, so do this all at once. Now go read all of the threads csutke posted. I'm not trying to discourage you, but I've had nothing but headaches from lifting this thing. On the plus side, it handles better and looks tougher.
  9. One set didn't do it for me. I'll need to get a second, as xplorx4 suggested. Make sure you buy the bolts with the most amount of correction available. The lobes on mine are to small.
  10. I have an 02 Chilkoot with All-Mode, 6 Disc BOSE. Power mirrors, seats, windows and locks, but no power seats, fender flares or sunroof. Also came with narrower tires than LE and SE and I have the orange 'LSD OIL ONLY' sticker on my rear differential, though it performs like an open differential, always breaking free and spinning one wheel. Pretty much an XE with All-Mode from what I gather. AUTO is great, I use it all winter. I took an 03 for a test drive before I bought this one and it had some form of EST, chattering away at me the whole time. Might be something you want to look into if it appeals to you.
  11. Any decent head unit from Alpine will have completely programmable equalizers and crossovers to make your lows, highs, and mids sound exactly how you want, as long as it isn't going through the factory BOSE amp.
  12. I was snooping around visions today looking at car starters, and... now I'm doing away with my BOSE system completely and getting a car starter. Funny how that works.. It'll be all Alpine gear, that I hope to hell will be night and day to the BOSE. I went with: iDA-X001 head unit, which appears to be everything that CDA-9887 is performance-wise, with an ultra sharp display, and best iPod/USB interface I have seen. SPR-17S - 6-1/2" Components up front SPR-17C 6-1/2" Coaxials in the back PDX-4.100 4CH x 100w amp to power them. I don't even know what kind of car starter I got... Autostart somethingerother. I don't know what I'll do with my subwoofers. I hate having them in the back all the time. I originally planned to install a trailer wiring connection on the box, with two big steel handles so i could just unplug it, and pull it out... Never got around to it, and still, I'm not sure I'd be happy with them being in there, ever. Pioneer is making shallow profile subs now, which apparently sound pretty good, no doubt better than the Xplods I have. Maybe I could squeeze one in one of the quarter panels... Any ideas? I hate speaker boxes. Install is booked for the end of the month. I would generally do this myself, but since the car starter is going in that day, I don't think I mind paying someone to do it. A-pillar tweets might be agonizing anyway. I'll have a CDA-9853 in perfect working / good cosmetic condition, with the ipod module, cords, and PAC-ROM module for BOSE amp for sale shortly if anyone is interested. Make me an offer, I'll do my best to ship cheaply, as a gift to avoid duty charges for you, if your in the US.
  13. On that note, I also never want to own another black vehicle unless it's an STI. Though I prefer the blue or white.
  14. Snooped around on car domain, but only found a couple vehicles with the JDM or Altessa style head/tail lights. I see what you mean, since some of the non-black ones looked pretty bad. I often wonder though, how many shades of black one can get away with. I want black wheels, black tail lights, black headlights, but it might look absolutely terrible.
  15. I called several places yesterday. One guy said he sold the plastic, or chrome cutout that go in the grill, while NAPA carried the quilted style. I went with the quilted one, which ended up costing $65, since they charge for frieght here. I might modify my air intake to pick up from behind the rad, if anyone thinks it would increase economy, having less air mass/volume.
  16. Forecast updated to a high of -27C, so maybe the cardboard beer box trick will be in action.
  17. Was around in the minus-teens leaving and getting in. A nice forecast of highs of -18/-19 for the weekend, lows of around -23. Gonna call NAPA see what sort of price they want for one.
  18. FYI I have my new studded snow tires installed and they're rubbing on the strut, so I think spacers are the cheapest solution, unless anyone has another idea. PLUS, when summer time comes, I can buy some nice rims with a 4.5 or 5" BS and not worry about clearance.
  19. But your factory studs and nuts can be used to hold the Toyota plate on? I think the sets on Ebay come with bolts anyway. Otherwise I would be buying Toyota thread lugs for the spacer to wheel connection, rather than Nissan, correct? I'm looking at replacing my lug nuts anyway. I've already replaced all of the studs except for the DS front, so if I ordered the Toyota ones (in the photo above) off of Ebay, all I need to do if buy some generic lug nuts with the same threading, right?
  20. Who sells winter fronts for R50s? Funny this topic was started, as I was thinking about making one on my drive from Calgary to Grande Prairie Yesterday.
  21. They sell clear ones on there too, but these are $135 where as it seems the OEM lights are more than that PER side, and don't include the corner light. Looks great though. I'd like to replace mine eventually.
  22. Mine are looking like your old ones. Maybe not as bad, but I agree it seems to be impossible to get them 'clear' looking. Are those the cheap replacements off Ebay or OEM? How much? Any brightness difference on the road at night?
  23. Anyone planning on installing a larger fuel tank? 100L+ would be nice. I'll probably do more camping next summer than I did this year, and too many times I found myself relying on the lil' red fuel containers to get me back to civilization.
  24. Any pics from the trip? Curious what kind of trails you guys have down there. I'm in GP.
