  1. Sorry to hear about your job. Do what you have to do to make ends meet for now and start sending out that resume to everyone. It is going to be really hard to get that dream job right now since the country is in such bad shape. It will not last forever though so keep your head up. Precise is right there is no perfectly secured job just some that are more secure than others. I thought my previous job was pretty secure in the oil field but I called some people who worked for the company i did and they have been sitting around waiting for work. I got lucky and got out of there and got a job at a Powerplant. Good thing is it pretty much recession proof. Everybody needs electricity. So my advice is try to look for a job that can survive in hard times. Sounds like your wedding is already planned but maybe you should talk to your fiancee and see if your could either downgrade some stuff or just get married at the courthouse for legality and hold off on the ceromony until you can do it the way you and her want it. My wife and i were were planning on taking the money our parents were going to spend on the wedding and eloping to Vegas for a couple weeks. But my wife ended up wanting a medium sized wedding in a chapel and all. I am happy we did it that way. Good luck to you
  2. Definitely nice to hear good news about employment. With so many people losing their jobs the job market is getting really scary. Congrats
  3. Come to Craig Colorado if you want snow. We moved up here 4 weeks ago. Up until Sunday there has been anywhere from 2-4 ft of snow in my yard. Since we have lived here I think it has snowed a little over 3 ft. And since we are in a mountain town the temps stay mostly below freezing so the snow doesnt go away. We used to get decent snow in Ft. Collins CO but this is a bit of an adjustment just because it doesnt melt it just keeps piling up.
  4. Yeah I thought about your van when I posted that reply, I guess I should have phrased it as I am the only one who has "bought" an american vehicle.
  5. This has been a very informative thread! Yet I am the only one here who actually drives an american made car!! LOL Sorry for that I just had to throw that in there!! Thanks for all the infor everybody!
  6. Pete, you talk like we are not already in a depression. I say we are and things are going to get alot worse before they get better. The housing market is tanking, the big three are complaining, the value of our dollar is going down the toilet. Unemployment is at its worst it's been in many years. I am truly scared to see what the future brings. I just got a refund from my insurance and I am using it to pay off ALL my bills.
  7. Nah, I'd get in trouble. Better just to buy her a Subaru. She actually wants either the Volvo S90 ( I think thats the SUV) or an Audi. But since she doesnt work those might be a bit too pricey. The Subaru offers utility for carrying kids around and AWD so I wouldnt have to worry about her driving around in the snow.
  8. This thread does serve a purpose. Atleast for me it has. I need to thank Pezzy for reminding me about Cake. I used to jam that back in the day!! And the same goes for you B. I used to jam Soul Coughing too. Now If you will excuse me I am off to download some Cake, Soul Coughing, Toddies, Dave Mathews Band, Short bus and Slipknot.
  9. Here is my girl Josie, She is a lab/pitbull mix who Loves wheelin and camping!
  10. That's what makes this site so great. The HUMAN aspect. If you want straight shop talk then you might be better off going to a mechanics forum. Either way you got the suggestions you needed and it worked out and you will have Lockers at the beginning of the year you lucky bastage!. Bri
  11. What exactly is the understatement of the century?
  12. Dam both those look like they effin hurt!! It just goes to show you that most of the time it is not you the rider but the other cars that you have to worry about. I have a dirt bike but my wife is absolutely against me having another street bike.
  13. Yup that's the guy! Nardelli, bastage. I just do not see any of the big 3 actually going under. They will file bankruptcy and in turn get help from the government and be forced to make some restructuring decisions. For instance: Ford needs to quit spending so much money on R&D for the mustang. My god they put so many millions into that darn thing it is insane. I mean they have like 20 different variations of it. Do not get me wrong I love muscle cars and hate seeing them gradually die off but, that money could be used much more appropriately. Unfortunately alot of people will probably lose their jobs. I am not for that but let's face it there is no way we will ever let these company's totally disapear.
  14. Jebus??? I'll have to look that one up! lol Ferry Corsten----Fire
  15. X2 If we bail them out nothing will change and they will be asking for money again in a couple/few years. I say let them file bankruptcy. It's not like they will go under. They will be forced to restructure their whole operations. I think it is what they need. Make those CEO's earn the millions of dollars they are making. What pisses me off is the last CEO to leave Chrysler was given 200 million dollars TO LEAVE! WTF? If you do a good job then yeah your entitled to a bonus (not 200 million) but this guy (I cant remember his name) failed and was asked to leave but given 200 million to do so. I'm no expert but does anybody else see the problem with this kind of thing? Even Donald Trump was like WTF? Why does he get 200 million dollars to leave with.
  16. Lords of Acid--Crab Louse Next: Lords of Acid--Marijuana in your brain
  17. I like your Subaru Trainman! Wifey wants one.
  18. Well....yeah I think the van needs some work. You'll have to figure out how much work the engine needs before you commit to this job. Also make sure to do all your research on the job itself. As far as if it's long term and whatnot. It would suck to put money into the van for a seasonal or a job that only lasts 6 months. From what you have described it looks like it is going to take a bit of an investment to get her running. New fuel lines at the least along with probably a new battery, oil change maybe a coolant change, plugs, wires, air filter, transmission flush. I would thin!k these things have to be done depending on how long it's been sitting. Especially if this is going to be used daily and for alot of miles. As far as the headliner, just rip it down. Like I said before research the job and make sure it is not a scam or something short term. If it's not and your serious then go for it
  19. Go to a farm supply store. They have straps that are rated for like 80k + lbs for pulling stuck semi's and tractors etc. 15,000 lbs is really not alot for a tow strap. I have a cheapo (kinda like a harbor frieght) nylon flat weave strap that is rated at 12,000 lbs and I would not rely on that to pull somebody out from being stuck in mud/snow. I trust it to tow somebody a short distance with no obstruction of being stuck. They can get kinda pricey depending on how much they are rated for but if you go ahead and spend a little $ on a good one then you wont have to worry about it ever. Here is a website containing good tow/recovery straps. http://www.uscargocontrol.com/recoverytows...CFQrFGgodGiIeiw I'm just throwing this out there becuause you said you are willing to help people any time they need it which I think is a good thing. If you think your going to be doing it often enough then why not buy a strap that you will never have to worry about when pulling somebody out, or when you get stuck yourself. I have been using an old semi strapping strap for the last 3 years that I got from work. It is rated at like 16,000lbs or something like that. It was old and last year when I pulled out my father in law's ranger it broke. I had enough of it where I just tied another loop and it still works. I will be buying a nice one here one day when I get actually get back to goin wheelin once in a while. I will probably not buy one rated for less than 40,000 lbs+. I have a small flat tote that I keep mine in also. It helps out cause even a strap will get wet and covered in snow and it makes am mess just being in the back of your pathfinder. Chain on the other hand gets to be a pita after pulling out just one person cause it gets wet and extremely cold. Not to mention it is heavy! Plus if your roads use alot of salt it just makes it rust 10 times faster. you can prolong the rust by rinsing them off with warm water every time your done using them but that sucks too! I have used both chains and straps. My buddy only used chains in his K-5 Blazer to pull people out. I helped out a few times and it was just a pita. Not to mention I forgot gloves like an idiot so my hands were absolutely frozen to the core after handling that chain.
