Help needed with stereo problem.

For some reason the front speakers seem to go on and off when they choose to. I have take the amp and stereo out and wiggled the wires to no avail. The only thing I can think of is that there is a short in the front amplifier. Any ideas?

 

Also do any of you guys know where I can get a factory replacement amp at a good price?

why not bypass the stock amps, get a new deck and run wires from the new deck to the speakers (all 4 speakers...)????

yea yea what he said...or just do some clipping and bypass the amps with some speaker wire to see if thats where ure problem is??? im not sure if u want to do that with a stock deck but an aftermarket deck will be easy to do

Face it, a 93 stereo is 13 years old...things die and need to be replaced.

Typical problem with the stock amps. I bypassed mine when I bought it because they did that.

Well I bought another amp at a junk yard today and it did the same thing! Maybe it's a short in the front channel of the deck. What do you guys think?

You can get a good aftermarket cd player/deck for less than $100 (A Sony model for $99 even has a direct input jack for an iPod in the front), buy some speaker wire, bypass the amps, and be done with it...it will sound better, and you will take out all the question marks.

Well I bought a new headunit today pluged it up and boom it still does it. So thats a new front amp a new headunit and I still have the random front speakers cutting off problem. Whats funny is that when they cut off I can fade all the sound to the front of the vehicle and turn it up all they way and I can faintly hear the music from only the passenger side door front speaker.

 

I think it might be a ground problem. Because if I unscrew the bracket that holds the front amp to the car and pull the amp out leaving it connected all the speakers shut off and if I turn the volume all the way up I can hear the same faint music from the passenger side door front speaker. If I touch the casing of the amp to the metal on the frame, where it attaches, the speakers come back on. So I assume that the amps are grounded through the metal frame that the front amp attaches to. Hence me thinking there is some kinda ground problem in the system. What do you guys think?

 

I will nut just junk this system. Fixing this problem has now become a matter of pride!

try bypassing the amps still...its going to be the easiest solution i think...the head unit should have more than enough power to run it...if not get an aftermarket amp and run it to get the extra thump

Does anyone have a rear amp that they can part with?

 

I found the problem and its the rear amp. When the front speakers are working I can wiggle the connector on the rear amp and they will stop working. So I figure there has to be something wrong with the amp or the wiring in connector.

Well I got a rear amp from a 94 for $25 and it works great! Hopefully it fixes it

I would just do like Dave said...

Get an aftermarket deck, and install it. Run new wires for the back speakers and for the fronts (I guess...). I didn't run new wires for my fronts, I just tapped into the ones that were there, and I'm running components in the front.

ok, on my trip last week i had a stereo issue too and wondering if it's the same thing as this problem here.. the radio all of a sudden went to just "fuzz" and will not play the radio nor cd nor tape.. when i undid the amps they would spark against the ground (the metal part where they are attached) and then once the radio did come on fully but then fizzled back out to fuzz.. any ideas as to what's going on? power seems to be getting to everything, fuzes are good..

Try unplugging one amp at a time and see if it fixes anything. One of the amps may be bad causing all the rucuss.

My pathy is kinda doing the same thing. I got an Aftermarket HU, and now my speakers are banging liek they're gonna explode. I fade the music all the way to the rear and took out the rear speakers so all I hear is the rear tweeters because the speakers sound that bad. Can anyone tell me how to bypass the amp in GREAT DETAIL...I know where the amp is located...I just need to kno what wires are what and what to connect them to and all that....great detail...
